Reassuring words from Jamaal Lascelles responding to speculation

Last season the stats were staggering where Jamaal Lascelles was concerned.

When the captain played, less goals were conceded and more points picked up.

Newcastle fans quick to appreciate that Lascelles gave the team a lot more than his own personal contribution in the actual team play, leadership inspiring  those around him.

With the transfer window dragging on, the last thing supporters want to see is more speculation that Rafa’s main man could move elsewhere, rather than regarding a decent goalscorer coming in.

Jamaal Lascelles has been talking to BBC Newcastle about the speculation.

The United Captain speaking at the squad’s Carton House training camp ahead of Tuesday night’s friendly at St Patrick’s Athletic.

The 24 year old simply says ‘I’m happy here, I’m the captain, the fans love me, I love the fans…’

Lascelles adding ‘My main focus is getting fit, doing the pre-season games, and the Tottenham game.’

My personal feeling is that like Rafa Benitez, there is no chance of the United captain leaving this summer.

However, just like the manager, if there is no ambition shown between now and next summer, I could easily see Jamaal Lasscelles saying enough is enough, and leaving.

Not many fans would blame them.

Jamaal Lascelles talking to BBC Newcastle:

“I’m happy here; I’m the captain, the fans love me, I love the fans, I’m playing week in, week out.

“That’s where I’m at right now, and my main focus is getting fit, doing the pre-season games, and the Tottenham game.

“Nothing changes. The speculation might not even be true.

“Since I was a kid, there’s always been teams interested, speculation, paper talk and stuff on Twitter, and things like that. It doesn’t mean anything to me.

“For me, this (training camp in Ireland) is ideal. I don’t really like flying as it is, so I don’t want to do a long flight.

“Three years ago, we went to America and it was a nightmare. This is great – an hour flight, the weather’s quite good and it’s familiar.”
