Last season the stats were staggering where Jamaal Lascelles was concerned.

When the captain played, less goals were conceded and more points picked up.

Newcastle fans quick to appreciate that Lascelles gave the team a lot more than his own personal contribution in the actual team play, leadership inspiring  those around him.

With the transfer window dragging on, the last thing supporters want to see is more speculation that Rafa’s main man could move elsewhere, rather than regarding a decent goalscorer coming in.

Jamaal Lascelles has been talking to BBC Newcastle about the speculation.

The United Captain speaking at the squad’s Carton House training camp ahead of Tuesday night’s friendly at St Patrick’s Athletic.

The 24 year old simply says ‘I’m happy here, I’m the captain, the fans love me, I love the fans…’

Lascelles adding ‘My main focus is getting fit, doing the pre-season games, and the Tottenham game.’

My personal feeling is that like Rafa Benitez, there is no chance of the United captain leaving this summer.

However, just like the manager, if there is no ambition shown between now and next summer, I could easily see Jamaal Lasscelles saying enough is enough, and leaving.

Not many fans would blame them.

Jamaal Lascelles talking to BBC Newcastle:

“I’m happy here; I’m the captain, the fans love me, I love the fans, I’m playing week in, week out.

“That’s where I’m at right now, and my main focus is getting fit, doing the pre-season games, and the Tottenham game.

“Nothing changes. The speculation might not even be true.

“Since I was a kid, there’s always been teams interested, speculation, paper talk and stuff on Twitter, and things like that. It doesn’t mean anything to me.

“For me, this (training camp in Ireland) is ideal. I don’t really like flying as it is, so I don’t want to do a long flight.

“Three years ago, we went to America and it was a nightmare. This is great – an hour flight, the weather’s quite good and it’s familiar.”

Lascelles will be captain of a great team and along with Rafa will lead us to glory in the years a head.

    • JonMag

you have some serious issues going on there pal, Neurological surgery required asap & take a bit of advice, don`t uses Clarko`s surgeon as that didn`t go well at all

      • Wezza

Apparently Clarko is his brother, the dopey one who looks like Sgt. Bilko.

        • JonMag

          that explains it then

          • TheFatController

            ‘Hayden submits transfer request’

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Where did we finish last season tenth. Beat Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea. The way this site goes on you would have thought we were relegated. A bunch of manic depressives the lot of you.

        • SuperDesHamilton

          He wants to be away.

        • drc74

you need to stop guzzling the fat ones cockney spxxk, it seems to be giving u mad ashleys disease

        • TheFatController

Man Utd we played out of our skin and they had a shocker.

Arsenal played the reserves after flying in from Russia

Chelsea players refused to get involved because the manager was leaving, they had the cup final 6 days later and the World Cup and being injury free on their minds

But we did play fairly well against Chelsea, given the previous four games ended in defeat.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

It hurt badly when we won those games. I know Jezza is a Sunderland supporter but now have my doubts about you to.

        • Megatron1505

When did our battle against relegation end you halfwit? We’ve been through this “tenth” rubbish before, we were nearly relegated, stop pretending we had a great season.

      • Jezza

Monkseaton and Clarko are the same person.

    • Slim_Newcastle

Crazy talk. More likely if he doesn’t go last gasp in this window he’ll certainly be away once Rafa leaves and the place decends in to chaos.

    • SH.ER

*Mike Ashley* with “Lead us to glory” doesn’t quite fit my friend 🙄
      sorry …

      • Dillon Tovak

It’s just trolling for attention don’t worry.

        • Wezza

          Just block the troll guys.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Except they are not troll guys just loyal supporters.

        • Monkseaton Magpies

We can improve on tenth with the current squad and could easy get to seventh. With four more signings could do even better but depends if they fit in with the style of play. Been to more games than you will do in a lifetime.

          • JonMag

            games of tiddlywinks, you maniac

          • TheFatController

Why do you keep substantiating your fan status when it’s the World Wide Web and thus it can’t be substantiated?

You could be a spinner of fake news? Post a pic of you in the lift with 200 season tickets maybe?

      • Jezza

He’s a troll who supports Manchester and has never been to Monkseaton in his life. Just block him.

        • Monkseaton Magpies

Hope you still in the nut house you are a very very sad person who by your own admission supports Sunderland

  • panther

well if he stays here he doesn’t need to worry about flying much, Europe has no place in the plan

  • DeadToiler

Just hope Monkseaton is right. I wish I could share his optimism

    • KRS1

Monkseaton is never right, he is a moron

      • FatParosite

        A paid troll….

        • TheFatController

An employee? With an office in the St James’ lift?

          • SuperDesHamilton

No He’s just a winett on Ashley’s ass

      • Monkseaton Magpies

Not sure whether you were adopted or picked up from an orphanage but if you do have parents god for bid as they are bad ones.

        • KRS1

Excellent, looks like I have wound up the wind up merchant!

  • Peaky

Deadline day special……£50m to Anfield….Carroll all over again.

    • Geordiegiants

If John Stones was £50m, Jamal is worth £75m easily.

      • Peaky

And I’m worth more than Phil ‘Frankenstein ‘ Jones…..gormless AND useless….

        • Geordiegiants

To think Sir Alex said he would go on to be a club legend for Manure???
It’s just shows even the best managers get it wrong occasionally.

      • Ram Kishore

That’s a bit too much imo.
He had one proper season and our team was very defensively organised .
No wonder we conceded less goals..
You maybe right he could be worth that much because only few matches are needed to show what his real worth is

        • Geordiegiants

That’s why I used John Stones as a yard stick.

          • Ram Kishore

I’m just saying it’s not possible to use stones as a yardstick unless u have watched stones regularly while he played for Everton.
The value u quote is mostly influenced due to media reviews..
            Just a opinion..

  • robbersdog

Just wait until there’s a serious bid from a Champions League club – he’ll soon change his tune.

    • Ram Kishore

Yeah he will.. so will anyone.
He’s talking about the present which is what is most important.

  • Paul Patterson

    Until that window shuts. .

  • Leicester Mag

Won’t mean a jot when the fat fookdouch sees the £ signs, sends his bettyswallocks into a quiver.

    • Peaky

Thanks Leicester…..that thought may only be erased by a shrink or Paul McKenna…

      • Leicester Mag

Just imagine him wearing a pair of his finest Lonsdales

  • TheFatController

There will be no ambition shown.

That’s not my view, that’s me relaying what Ashley told us last summer.

So far, he’s been true to his word, which isn’t always like him, in fairness.

  • 1957

When it comes down to the right amount of cash on the table Big Mike will say yes and Jamaal will be off if the bidding club is one of the regulars in the top 5 or 6

    • Monkseaton Magpies

Come August enjoy players kicking the ball out of play a great game. You and seven thousand others.

      • 1957

I will, just as you will no doubt enjoy watching our new superstar striker or more likely Gayle or the Hoss (if Leazes is wrong and you’re not just a troll)

You do need to pop to Rockcliff and put them straight over their choice of game, I’m sure they will appreciate it.

  • Soldier

£45m bid comes in a helo will arrive as fast as Airwolf

    • SuperDesHamilton

He wants away, I’ve got it on good authority

  • Andy Mac

Personally I wouldn’t blame any player choosing to leave the lifeless soul of NUFC which has been drained of ambition since 2007
