Rafa Benitez has confirmed that the return of Kenedy is set to happen shortly.

The winger travelled up to Tyneside on Monday night and has taken his medical today.

Meanwhile, the Newcastle boss also repeated today that Mikel Merino is set to leave the club.

Rafa having already made clear on Friday that Ki Sung-yueng had been brought in as Merino’s replacement, who is due to return to Spanish football shortly.

However, speaking to BBC Newcastle on Tuesday afternoon, the manager has told them that apart from the Merino and Kenedy deals, nothing else is ‘particularly close’ to happening, either in or out of the club.

Tuesday saw reports of West Ham supposedly having a £20m+ offer turned down for Jamaal Lascelles.

Rafa Benitez confirming there is no way Newcastle want to sell his captain and indeed he says Lascelles ‘has to be a key player for Newcastle United for years to come.’

As for Kenedy, Rafa says his return is ‘good for the team and for the fans’ but that he will keep on pushing the winger, as he believes he is capable of scoring a lot more goals. Last season he only scored two in 13 matches for Newcastle, both coming in the home win over Southampton.

Rafa Benitez asked by BBC Newcastle if selling Jamaal Lascelles was a possibility?

“For sure we don’t want to sell Jamaal.

“He is a key player for us.

“He was a key player last year and he has to be a key player for Newcastle United for years to come.”

Kenedy set to sign on another loan deal:

“It (Kenedy signing) is good for the team and for the fans.

“I’m pushing him now because if he plays at the same level as last year, I will be happy.

“But still, he has to score more goals!”

  • Steven05

He’s going to sign a couple of good strikers next isn’t he!! 😃 Top 4 👌🏼

    • Duh

According to this website he is going to sell all of the best players (under value), and pocket all of the money, hoping the club will stay up. There will be a net spend of -50m, all of which he will pocket because he hates geordies. Rafa will then leave and will be replaced by Dennis Wise, Joe Kinnear or Pardew.

      • Wezza

You just looked back at the history of the club.

        • Duh

Despite complete and utter incompetence over the last 10 years, what you are saying is not strictly true is it now?

          • Wezza

All I said was you just looked back at the history of the club. Which you did. Let’s see:

sell all of the best players (under value) TRUE
and pocket all of the money, TRUE
hoping the club wil stay up. TRUE
There will be a net spend of -50m, all of which he will pocket because he hates geordies. TRUE

          • Duh

            righto

          • Wezza

            Right you are then.

      • Toon 83

Hahaha you are right. Most of the people on here probably blame Ashley for both world wars. They dream things up in their head and they are all as paranoid as each other that they all believe it without even looking at the truth.

        • TheNutJob

i doubt he had anything to do with wars etc, what i do know is he has systematically downgraded the club on a massive scale.
“there`s a few on here who dream everything will be ok under Ashley” isn`t there

          • Toon 83

You could say he saved us too. It’s well documented where we were heading financially before he took over.

        • Geordiegiants

So what has he done good for this club then?

          • Soldier

he`s a troll, a few have turned up in the last few days,
he`s made about 9 posts and is even critical of Rafa in some of, them just ignore him

          • Geordiegiants

            Ah right cheers.👍

          • Big Hairy Man

They always turn up when Ghostbuster, Monkfish et al are offline.

          • Toon 83

“Even critical of Rafa in some of them” is nobody allowed to say anything slightly negative about him? I love it how everyone is branded a troll or a mike Ashley lover just for having a different opinion. I like Benitez and I don’t like Ashley by the way.

          • Mike Adam

Nope, not on here. No opinions aloud unless you agree with the experts points of view. I am a mackem and a troll with many different accounts. Or they start to call you other names, it is really quite comical and juvenile.

        • Westdentoon

Aye cos he loves the club that much he goes to every match 👍

      • Nut

Your wrong Rafa’s replacement is already in place, it’s the chai wahla.

        • Ram Kishore

          U mean the tea master..
          That’s our PM..
          U cant have him..😂

      • Westdentoon

According to some on this website he is going to sanction 7 signings and break the transfer record several times….😂

        • Duh

Probably somewhere in between I would say

          • Westdentoon

In between -50mil and 0 I would say..hope I’m wrong but history has made me cynical

          • Duh

I seem to recall a couple of windows where the outcome seemed satisfactory; one where we got Sissoko and co in the Jan window and Richie, Gayle etc when we got relegated last time.
Other than that I recall windows ranging from disappointment to abject despair including last summer though, Lejeune was a bright spot.
So far, the 3 players that have come in are of a decent ability but, the club does need to bring in 2-3 quality players at least, especially a striker.
I am not sure that will happen until they unload fringe members of a bloated squad. I bet they only brought Dubravka in because they had to and thought Sels was off.
We are not going to see any Ronaldoesque signings but hopefully Rafa gets these who he wants and he gets it right.

          • Soldier

Ashley won`t buy until the club offloads the likes of Mitrovich,Merino, Mbemba to name but a few and from a financial point of view it could be construed as correct, the worry always is, will he replace them

          • Duh

Right, and I suspect there will be some decent signings but at the same time disappointment all round that we missed out on some.
The club just seem unable to offload players in a timely manner. Fair enough with Mitro, perhaps he is on holiday after his world cup foray but what about the others you mention as well as Saivet, Sels etc
Perhaps it’s not Charnley’s fault but I would not bet against it.

          • Westdentoon

Ok so he has gambled and taken a chance twice in 11 years of owning the club, the relegation season was a necessity otherwise we risked being cut adrift for good, thus damaging his advertising platform and seriously devaluing the club.

Hopefully he fancies another go this year and gives Rafa the resources he needs. I just fear he knows Rafa is capable of achieving mediocrity and safety on a shoestring so why pay more than he needs to?

          • Ram Kishore

2011, 2014 summer windows were good in terms of money and players..
But 2014 we had too many failures

  • Waxi

We make a shed load of wonga after our top 10 finish and all we have to show is a 4 million signing a free and we might get a loan if Kennedy signs. Not looking good for us fans is it but the fat man gets a big load of profit on the back of NUFC AGAIN.

    • Fireman Sam

where has the tv money gone? so far the fat boy is still probably looking at a net profit on transfers alone, never mind the tv money or the money he dubiously wrote off in the season befores accounts

      • Duh

A big chunk of it on the over inflated wages that even mediocre players earn these days. However, I suspect there is some left but I would also speculate that they want to offload players to open up squad positions and reduce the wage bill before putting bids in.

        • Wezza

Rubbish. 100k a week for Lazaar. Pull the other one. Are you a Lee brother?

          • Duh

I don’t know how much any individual earns, just the wage bill is high. BTW, not saying bids will be high, just saying I think the club will need to open up slots in the squad before adding new ones or, be pretty confident they are offloading players like with Merino

          • Wezza

Sure they do I agree but we’ve been been reducing the wage bill the past few years. I don’t buy the latest accounts wage bill. Not one bit of it.
It’s MA, he sanctions and blocks transfers – look a troll last summer. Now it’s loans and freebies.

      • Wezza

In the MASH Holdings black hole. The trolls will have you believe he hasn’t taken a penny from the club. Maybe he is a billionaire from not taking a penny from his other businesses.
No more transfers imminent? Hardly surprising. It will probably be a token loan signing on deadline day now.

        • Big Hairy Man

MASH is certainly a black hole. Once something goes in it never returns.

          • Dillon Tovak

            Unless it’s in a fireplace.

        • Duh

I don’t think the club will make him notably richer unless he sells it for the inflated price he wants. It’s a drop in the ocean to a guy who has a net worth of 3.7b USD. Despite having a couple of hundred million tied up in it, I doubt he gives it anywhere near as much thought as you or I

      • Soldier

Mash holdings which i presume Newcastle United are a part of made a profit of £277m last year, i would think that`s where the money goes although i couldn`t be certain

        • Wezza

          That is very interesting!

  • Leazes.

Man United have offered to fly all of those ‘Ace in the Hole’ Thai kids to Old Trafford…. they never miss a trick do they?…..

…..Not to be outdone Mike Ashley has promised them all jobs in his S*** D**** Shirebrook plant as replacements for the Poles who escaped under the fence….. on hearing the news half of them went back down the hole.

    • Big Hairy Man

Probably better conditions than Gulag Shirebrook.

      • Duh

Flooded cave or SD on a zero hours contract, hmm. Not good choices.

        • Big Hairy Man

At least in the cave they were treated with respect and dignity.

    • Mark Andrews

Shameless self promotion by man United again. Same thing with the Chilean miners . They make ashley look (almost ) honourable!

      • Leazes.

        Its cynical

  • Soldier

around £25m for Lascelles, i think they are trying it on & that bid is way under what he`s worth, i doubt they`ll be back.

  • TheNutJob

so if we win tomorrow the final is against the 🐸

  • magpiefifer

‘Lascelles has to be a key player for years to come’ – a worrying quote from Rafa where Ashley is concerned! Can that be interpreted as should be,but if Ashley gets a big enough offer we’ll sell him!!!?

    • KRS1

Thats exactly what that means. Fatty won’t listen though, he will happily cash in.

  • Monkseaton Magpies

Rafa will be keeping his cards close to his chest and knows a lot more than he lets on. A sad night for Jezza who hates anti Sunderland articles on here along with his cult following they lost one nil to a non league side tonight.

    • Will Venus

Going back to you’re claim that Mike Ashley is the only person EVER to put money into the club?? I asked you to explain and justify that statement. So far, you have still failed to do so. Any reason for that??

      • Monkseaton Magpies

He bought the club for £135m and has loaned the club £144m to pay wages and buy players. Think the last regime got the shares for just over a million pounds and took £144m out. A big difference I think. Without him we would be in a sorry state as no one is willing to buy us or put money in.

        • Wil Venus

Answer the question before you start criticising other users, it’s not rocket science. In the 126 years of Newcastles history, how, in your opinion, is Ashley the only person EVER to put money into the club and what facts or information is your statement based upon. Forget the last regime, you said EVER??? What you said just doesn’t make any sense and is pure fiction

          • Jezza

Don’t feed the troll, marra. Just block him. Don’t give him the reaction he craves to fill his sad empty life.

          • Will Venus

🤣🤣I know I shouldn’t, but I just can’t help ridiculing his comments and furthermore exposing him as the pathetic individual he seems to be

  • Down Under Mag

Lascelles is worth more to us right now than other clubs will be willing to pay. It may be a different story come the end of next season if he has another outstanding season and continues to progress…but right now losing him would be a huge step towards relegation, not just losing his playing ability but his leadership as well. I expect Lejeune to continue to improve and form a great partnership with our captain.

If we manage to sell Mitro, Mbemba, Ritchie and maybe Sels and bring in Townsend on top of Dubravka, Ki and Kenedy then I think it is a decent window so far…but there is still a lot to do and a long way for Ashley to go to convince fans he has anything but his own hip pocket in mind. Given we’ve signed a 4m quid keeper, a free transfer and a loan deal I think we would all expect some big money moves around the corner for a forward and another midfielder, however what we expect and what Ashley sanctions are usually two very different things. plus there is still the issue of what to do with the likes of Colback, Aarons, Saivet etc who clearly aren’t going to get a game but are taking up squad places for potential new signings and Ashley will not want to be paying wages out for those players when he’s not getting anything in return – despite it being his fault we have them on such long contracts in the first place.

  • Desree

Jezza looks like being bang on again

    • Jezza

Yes I am but to be fair it was always entirely predictable.

      • Leazes.

        Yes I predicted it.
