The official Newcastle United Fans Forum have made a public statement regarding the lack of backing by Mike Ashley for Rafa Benitez.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Gallowgate End representative on the forum, Kris Woods, says that the group are ‘deeply concerned with events at NUFC.’

Specifically they point to ‘reports that the manager is having his summer budget withheld because he has not committed to signing a contract extension.’

Kris Woods says that the official Newcastle United Fans Forum ‘fully supports Rafael Benitez in his right not to sign an extension until he’s seen sufficient evidence to support his and the Fans’ ambition.’

Throughout last season the club refused to hold any meetings with their own official fans forum, eventually meeting on 25 April 2018, some 10 months since the last previous one in June 2017.

The Newcastle United Fans Forum members pressed the club in April on this lack of respect and willingness to interact, the club reluctantly agreeing to set dates of Tuesday 28th August, Tuesday 12th February 2019, and Tuesday 21st May 2019.

Many supporters quick to notice though that these next two meetings don’t come around until after each of the respective next two transfer windows.

Great to see the Fans Forum members being so proactive with this statement of support for Rafa Benitez and making clear that it is Mike Ashley to blame for this shambles of a transfer window, not the manager.

Having approached their own official fans forum with such a lack of good faith, it is difficult to see the club/Mike Ashley changing their ways now.

The forum members’ statement, even though it doesn’t mention the #IfRafaGoesWeGo initiative, clearly has been prompted by it to act.

It is a very difficult position for those Newcastle fans who are giving their time and energies to be part of the official fans forum. Unless Mike Ashley and his minions are willing to change tack and do things properly, you would have to wonder if the members of the Newcastle United Fans Forum would have little choice but to resign en masse, to make it clear that enough is enough.

Official Newcastle United Fans Forum Gallowgate End representative, Kris Woods via his Twitter account:

“As a group we are deeply concerned with events at NUFC.

“There are reports that the Manager is having his summer budget withheld because he has not committed to signing a contract extension.

“The Fans Forum fully supports Rafael Benitez in his right not to sign an extension until he’s seen sufficient evidence to support his and the Fans’ ambition.

“We also feel that NUFC’s board and ownership need to support him now more than ever to show him that they are ambitious and are willing to be a stable top ten club pushing for European Qualification and for Domestic Cup success.

“We’ve seen Season Ticket prices rise significantly, England’s most expensive replica shirts and little evident appetite to attempt to compete in the transfer market whilst clubs around and below us significantly invest.

“We sincerely hope NUFC can act quickly to ensure the Manager gets the assurances he seeks and feels comfortable enough to commit his long-term future to the club.”

Yours

The Newcastle United Fans Forum

    They don’t have one.

There’s a challenge for the forum for your next meeting,

Challenge Charnley to produce a Mission Statement to replace the Missing Statement.

  • Mxpx

Here’s an interesting idea how about if we all withdraw funds from Mike Ashleys businesses and reinvest them together ie the £722 your season ticket would cost the money your replica shirt would cost or match day ticket etc stick it all in one big pot what will happen is essentially we will drop the value of the club because it will lose income at the same time this pot will eventually get big enough (not overnight) that we can buy the club as fans and then we can let the current manager assign a football savy chairman until such point as a billionaire with ambition comes along and wants to buy the club at which point everyone who invested is now a shareholder and gets probably less than their money back but something from the sale I reckon we’re worth around 100 million a season to Mike Ashley so could buy him out in 4 years maybe 3 as the club value drops

    • Leazes.

I think you’re wandering into the realms of fantasy Pike.

    • Damon Horner

Good intentions but difficult to manage and no guarantees to get good uptake. Ashley has to agree to any sale as well.

    • Ben Jones

‘Here’s an idea, let’s try and crash/skint the club till it falls in value enough for us to buy it’

This guy probably thinks he’s a loyal diehard . Utter skum

      • Big Hairy Man

Ashley’s already doing a good job on that score with his asset stripping, creative accounting and robbing of advertising revenue.

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

At the end of the day it is all just hot air coming from yet another splinter group of disenchanted fans.
I’ll bet Ashley is soiling himself as this new group want assurances given to Rafa, (Not) !
What difference is this going to make to anything in the scheme of things ?
Only an orchestrated huge movement with the whole of the fan base on board will be worth the effort.
These people will have to be prepared to go to extremes to take it to Ashley, Even to the point of getting nicked !
Sadly, It has probably got to a stage where only extreme direct action will make Ashley sit up and listen.

The trouble so far has been not being able to get the fans together en masse to do something about him with most not having the appetite for the fight.
Even when they did that walkout that day, Those who got up and left were booed by their own for having the audacity to stand up to a tin pot dictator !

You get the same responses every time you try to bring up a course of action and we all know what they are by now.
Ridiculous stuff also comes to the fore with one lad saying : “Lets Still Go To The Games, But we will “Poznan” in protest, What is all that about ?
That is the mentality of a lot of the fans you get nowadays, So where do you go from there ?

    • Leazes.

No its not the way you talk you’d think they’d been bought off with a cup of tea and a digestive biscuit.

      • Soldier

what have they actually achieved in the past

        • Leazes.

Its not their fault that the club goes through the motions of communication, The very first meeting Charnley chucked out NUST as they dared to ask the questions that we wanted.

It is a FIFA requirement that they do it….but a bare minimum lip service to the order……these fans represent sections of support but its nowhere near the Arsenal model and they are selected by the club not by supporters but they’ve actually met in private and come out with this castigation of the club…..

…and are bloody well attacked for doing so!

          Christ

          • Damon Horner

Right. Controlled participants and controlled environment. Anybody who knows they can do better should step up.

          • Soldier

they have stepped up, they haven`t bought or renewed season tickets

          • Leazes.

Problem getting to Charnley and Ashley when the hide as they do…. FiFA have opened the door but they are still blocking entry. The club aren’t entering into fan dialogue willingly….that is obvious.

          • Soldier

i read above the next meeting is before the season starts let`s see what happens then

          • Billmag

It’s in the Chron next meeting Aug 28th 3 weeks after the transfer window closes.

          • Superdooperhooper

I don’t think anyone is attacking them it’s that they’re tilting at windmills. Money is all ashley wants he doesn’t care what we think . So don’t go to the games and don’t buy the shirts. That’s the only effective thing we can do in my opinion

      • X,WHY,Y MAN.

        They have basically.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

The next meeting is on the 10th of August, lets see them put some relevant questions to Charnley. Bet that goes well

    • Leazes.

Well the chronicle usually use it to push some questions , but I don’t think that we really need to do a poll to ask them what they’re playing at and when is he going to sell up!

      • mactoon

From what I’ve seen of previous minutes there is never a direct, spin-free unambiguous answer to any of the questions. It always reminds me of Ashley’s staged interviews with Sky Sports.

  • Soldier

waste of time he doesn`t even take any notice of the manager

  • davey dibiaggio

We won’t buy anyone, there’s no money! We’re skint. Ashley won’t go into his own pocket not a chance

    • Dillon Tovak

      Dipshizzle

  • panther

    Nothing will change

    • Leazes.

      That’s the spirit

      • panther

its true though, the best we can hope for is a coronary

  • Gallowgatefan

I’ve tried to hope that Ashley will change and see the sense in giving Rafa some money but it looks like best we can hope for is selling players and getting better replacements in. Even then we’ll probably not spend what we make

  • Anonymouse1

that`ll put the wind up Ashley all he understands is money and publicity.
damage those and he may take note

The weakest link has to be Charnley. Maybe we could all just stand outside his house asking him questions like the BBC reporters do every time a politician leaves No. 10? The old one to Cameron about his alleged acts with swine being a leading contender?

    • Toontaff

Though it’s more likely the pig’s been doing it to him, than the other way round.

It’s Joe Bryan, a left back. Speaking about something you’re uninformed on, no surprises there.

          • Clarko

            You haven’t.

    • Benmagpie

Didn’t Andy cole come from Bristol city?

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

I`ve watched him a few times he`s quite a good player & can play anywhere down the left but we already have Dummett, Kenedy, Atsu & Manquillo for that position and we need strikers

    • pedrodelgardo

If it’s Joe Bryan I will be very happy he was excellent in their cup run last season – here’s hoping.

  • T2

When you look at it from his point of view, it’s purely a business, and it’s his business unfortunately. No matter what forums or groups try to get on his case he won’t listen. The club is his possession. He will run it as he likes, which may well be into the ground unfortunately, but there really isn’t much fans can do. Hopefully some will come forward and buy it, but I can’t see that happening any time soon unfortunately.

    • Leazes.

Yes there is…. introduce a law on ownership of football clubs.

We can change the law, petition parliament.

    • Desree

A business only exists when it has customers. NUFC fans would do well to keep that in mind, to suggest Ashley can do what he wants is wrong.

The fans have so much power and influence if they would only unite and take a stand.

  • Down Under Mag

While the way things currently stand are laughable and certainly something that the media would be jumping up and down about had it been happening at their beloved Liverpool or Man Utd, there is a chance that something will still happen now that we are looking to offload some players and free up salary room and more importantly squad spaces. I’ll not hold my breath, but fingers crossed Rafa gets to spend some cash, signs a new deal and builds his squad for the new season before it’s too late…the alternative doesn’t bear thinking about.

    • Desree

It isn’t about spending cash – It is about the intent to invest in the club that Rafa is most concerned about.

And that is where there will be a stalemate as Ashley has no intention of investing in NUFC, just maintaining status quo. Which is why we buy so many PP players

      • Soldier

he never will invest and Rafa will leave next year and it`s back to square one.

  • Desree

NUFC is the only business I know of that shows utter contempt for its customers, yet still hits record revenue!

Maybe the FA and premier league need to have some form of ombudsman to protect the customers?

    • Garry Norman

Sport’s a funny old world. If you don’t want to get ripped off, don’t hand over any cash.

    • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

You will have missed the attention seeking liebour MP Chi Onwurah has launched a petition demanding action to stop Mike from ‘ taking advantage’ of the Toon Army faithful. The petition asks the House of Commons to intervene!

  • Mrkgw

    ASHLEY OUT!

  • robbersdog

None of this has any effect on Mike Ashley; he doesn’t listen, he doesn’t care and he doesn’t like us.

    • Anonymouse1

he`s impervious to criticism by the fans & has been for 10 years, why have they only brought it up now. he did the same last year & again in January

  • Garry Norman

Funny, the idea of the fan club “demanding” Ashley backs Rafa.
Knowing the sort of person he is, does the fan club think he’ll react to well to the minions demanding anything?

  • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

It’s a bit strange, at the start of the window the consensus was we needed to sign a wide left midfielder as good as Kenedy, a Goalkeeper and a centre forward. We’ve already got the first two and it looks like we’ll have a striker by this time next week.

    • Megatron1505

Did your sauce tell you that?

      • mactoon

Did your sauce say we are signing Tom Ketchup ?

    • Wor Lass

I think you`ll find that the term “centre forward” was followed by the qualification that he could score goals on a regular basis. It doesn`t look like we`ve got any chance of getting one of those. Kenedy and the goalkeeper were here before so only help us to stand still.

  • FatParosite

Nothing less than a concerted effort to remove Ashley will do. #IfRafaGoesWeGo is something I support wholeheartedly but it should be a base requirement of any self respecting fan. This situation will go on and on and on with Ashley in charge. Ashley just pumping in £40m now (like that would happen) will quieten many fans, but it still does not significantly resolve the problem.

  • ghostrider

Let’s start up a petition for Rafa to be given extra funds.
Let’s call the petition ” sign your contract Rafa.”

Nobody can expect Rafa to be given any sizeable money by running out his final year of his contract.
That’s like handing a pay rise to a player in his final year of his contract, knowing he’s not guaranteed to give his all and also no end product from his departure.

    Nonsensical isn’t it?

    Let’s change this up.
If this was Allardyce or Pardew or someone like them and they were doing what Rafa is doing, the fans would be screaming stuff like ” just leave Allardyce/Pardew, if you won’t commit.”
And many many other choice words aimed at them.

But a messiah is treated different. A messiah can mess about doing what they like and still be lauded.
I saw some poster on a Newcastle forum put up a topic for Rafa to have a statue.
A statue for crying out loud.

    What has Rafa done?

  • kingfisher

You can have anti Ashley forums, protests, fly flags, wave banners demanding Ashley backs Rafa ’till the cows come home, and it won’t make the slightest bit of difference.
I’m afraid it’s the same old story. As long as the 50,000 sheep follow the pied piper and are quite happy to let Ashley bend them over, then NOTHING WILL EVER CHANGE !!!

  • ghostrider

Can’t we just support the club and what squad we do have instead of turmoil all of the time?
It gets tedious with this nonsense ” we won’t spend”… ” is killing the club”…etc…nonsense all the time.Ashley all the time.

  • mactoon

If the members of the Newcastle United Fans Forum resigned en masse that would just be one less irritation for Ashley.
