Chancel Mbemba has now left Newcastle United.

This transfer saga at last at an end as the defender joins Porto.

The club confirming the news late on Monday afternoon.

The DR Congo had been at Newcastle for three years of a five year contract but clearly had no future at the club.

Rumours persisted of the manager’s unhappiness with the player’s attitude in training and claims of a poor command of English hampering communications with the rest of the team, despite having been in England for three years.

More obvious was the fact that Rafa Benitez rarely played Chancel Mbemba and indeed the former Anderlecht player didn’t even make a PL bench in 2018.

Newcastle fans, and Rafa Benitez, that Mbemba and Colback’s departures, with hopefully other unwanted players to follow, will help set in motion some incoming player deals.

Official Newcastle United announcement

Defender Chancel Mbemba has completed a permanent move to Primeira Liga side FC Porto.

The DR Congo international has joined the Portuguese champions for an undisclosed fee after three years at St. James’ Park.

Mbemba arrived at Newcastle United from Belgian outfit Anderlecht in July 2015. The 23-year-old made a total of 59 appearances for United, scoring once – on the final day of the 2016/17 Championship season, when the Magpies secured the title after a 3-0 win over Barnsley.

Centre back Mbemba links up with Porto in the week they welcome Rafa Benítez’s side to the Estádio do Dragão, with the two sides set to face each other in a pre-season friendly on Saturday, 28th July.

  • Peaky

What’s the deal ??? £5 per month over the next X amount of years.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

Wonder if he`s fit enough to play us on the 28th

    • Mxpx

We’re putting together a sports direct banner for their stadium in lieu of payment

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Another £7m to £8m in the Fat [email protected]@ker`s back pocket.
    Scumbag

    • Peaky

With him and Merino now gone that’s the new chopper paid for…..feel a bit sorry for the fatfucka…..what’s he going to spend the £45m Lascelles money on…..🤬🤬🤬

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

If the Mitro deal does go through for £20m he`ll pocket the lot
£38m & get a striker in on loan

  • Mike Adam

Step up for Mbemba really. Not in leagues but as far as European football almost every year.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

Porto or a continuous fight against relegation

      • Mike Adam

Well Chancel won’t have to go through that fight anymore.

  • Mxpx

It’s not like we didn’t see it coming but terrible idea to let this lad leave proper utility player playing dm cb and fb each side hope he does well

    • Wor Lass

He`s not a utility player if he`s never going to be utilised. When someone gets on Rafa`s schit-list they`ve seriously had it. I`ve nominated Monksatan.

  • Paul Patterson

    Savings, savings, savings everywhere..

    • Duh

Yep, we are top of the league for our balance sheet – we should all be thrilled!

    • Peaky

…..and not a pound to spend.

  • Soldier

he`ll be replaced by one of the U23s, s free transfer or a loan deal

    • Ram Kishore

If a u 23 player makes the step up and plays well that’s not bad..
We will have a young who could get better, be happy training with the first team and wouldn’t mind the squad role

  • panther

shame, thought he was a good player

  • Squintytoonarmy

I’d back Rafa on this one – sees something we don’t.

  • Paul Patterson

As an aside, I see Spuds are willing to let Danny Rose, Vincent Janssen and Mousa Dembele leave. Any takers?

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

you got a spare £40m for Rose

    • Duh

      Are they available on loan?

      • Paul Patterson

        I’d take Janssen like.

        • Burt Humperdink

Really? his goal ratio in prem is worse than Rondon’s. As I have said before on here I think the Dutch league has dropped in quality players who look amazing in that league struggle in ours.

        • Squintytoonarmy

Yep – think he just needs a run of games. Confidence makes all the difference.

      • whitleylad

With Spurs paying a big chunk of their wages?

    • Kneebotherm8

As long as it’s not the other Moussa……..

  • TeessideMag

Right player, wrong time. Nevertheless, the squad gets smaller… There were 25 black and white bottles standing on the wall, if one of those should be accidentally sold…

    • TeessideMag

I joke, there is no accident about it

  • Vodkamagpie

I see we linked to that Mexican defender for free, reyes, has anyone seen him play ?

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Mugpie must be under sedation

    • Peaky

Or stuck in a lift……elevator gooooooiiiiiiinnnnnngggggg up.

  • Dillon Tovak

They never mention how much, so keen for people not to know how much he’s pocketing.

    • Ram Kishore

I saw in Bbc showing a reported 7.1m in their transfer page..It also mentions we bought him for 8

  • Toontaff

    23?
Must have had some paper round.

  • Mrkgw

Only a few errors of judgement by Rafa – this is one of them. Good luck to Mbemba, he deserved better treatment than this.

    • Paul Patterson

He seemed unwilling to learn English, which was frustrating to the coaching staff. Not bothered about him leaving, it’s where the money goes that bothers me..

      • Mrkgw

We can both guess where the money goes. We certainly won’t see benefits of it.

      • Leazes.

3 coaches are Spanish so learning English isn’t going to help

        • Mmm, don’t think Shelvey and Lascelles communicate in Spanish. I think the entire coaching staff speeks perfectly good English.

  • Leazes.

So how much did we get for him?…. never mind Simon I look it up….. £7.2m

Right that takes our net spend to minus £11.2m

    • Paul Patterson

      Next Mitrovic..

      • Leazes.

then Lascelles on the last day

        • Paul Patterson

We’re going to end up well in profit this window. .

          • HarryHype59

            Newcastle United…balance sheet champions.

          • Kneebotherm8

Always top ‘o’ the league in that department………..

        • I have said so before. If anybody has 50m+ we can sell Lascelles if only Rafa is given the time to spend the money on 2-3 quality additions. Even if it’s the last minute. No player is bigger than the club.

          • GeordieZebra

Rafa won’t get the cash and we sell the main player who’ll potentially keep us up. Sensible, nah?!!

  • HarryHype59

Does any one know what the fee is?

    • Paul Patterson

£6m-8m speculated. But I’m thinking Rafa will see three fifths of f**k all.

      • HarryHype59

Fatso, will have insisted the fee is paid on instalments. Rafa will be lucky to get £1m in the transfer kitty.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          1p

          • Toontaff

            Every 1p?

      • Fireman Sam

Does the club own the players or MASH? It wouldn’t surprise me to find Ashley owns the players and provides them to NUFC like an agency.

  • Rob

Similar to Mitrovic looked to have potential but Rafa didn’t like him.

More than concerned we’ve lost a few players capable of providing solid cover without any reinforcements.

Shocking that Rafa can’t even be provided with a sensible transfer budget never mind a good one.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

There is no budget, he spat his Dummy out when Rafa wouldn`t sign a new contract, you are now seeing the consequences

      • Rob

Don’t be a fool. There was definitely no budget if the contract was signed Rafa has learned from previous assurances.

This way he gets it guaranteed in writing or or continues to June and moves on to a club where the owners ambitions meet the fans.

        • Fireman Sam

The money from the tv deal isn’t even going into the club

    • Down Under Mag

The talk is that he refused to learn English and it was harming the coaching…if that’s true then it is a legitimate reason for Rafa to favour other defenders who he COULD communicate his defensive tactics with. I’ve never heard Mitro speak so not sure fi it was something similar or just a falling out over attitude…who knows, but I agree with a sentiment of loaning them until Rafa sorts his contract out or leaves…

    • Those players never slotted in well. We have a good team and the U23s/18s have made massive progress in the last 6 months! If Rafa stays NUFC is going to come back strong.

  • Angelswithdirtyfaces

Looks like about £40m of outgoing players, including Mitro, but £4m incoming to date. In any other business (regardless of phased credits) that would be called asset stripping.

    • Down Under Mag

All signs point to Rafa leaving at the end of the season, Ashley cashing in while he can and either giving the next manager a large transfer kitty just to prove something to Rafa or more likely, will appoint a yes man desperate for a job who can be the perfect patsy when we go down, the club sold off and Ashley run away with all the TV and transfer money and leaving the club in a massive hole!

      • Michael Pattison

I think so too, this is last season for Ashley, fill his pockets with what he can then he’s off

        • Looks this way. Get his loan back and sell for £250-300m. Rafa stays, a new owner comes and we are back! I think we will do well this season, even if we only finish 10th again. We need not loose our best players, that’s it.

          • Fireman Sam

            That’s optimistic

        • Fireman Sam

          Totally

      • Fireman Sam

        That’s what I expect too

    • Fireman Sam

Add that to the extra TV money that has dissapeared

  • mentalman

Another one who we should have sent out on a season loan until rafa has left

  • Superdooperhooper

Tuppence hapenny on the drip . Nothing to see here . Move on forget it ever happened

  • Next one is Selz, Saivet and Mitro (Lazaar is here to stay, nobody wants him).
We are getting 1-2 bodies in this week (free, loans or whatever). I am hoping Armstrong, Longstaff and Fernandez get another chance today against Hull.

  • Fireman Sam

I had a feeling mike Ashley would seek to make a profit in the transfer market this summer. The guy is pure evil.

  • Fireman Sam

When Rafa suggests that the club isn’t being run like a proper football club, what exactly does he mean/imply?

Obviously he is contractually bound, but he is hinting on something here. We need to dig a little deeper with the accounts. Does the club receive all the TV money? does the club own the players directly? Etc

We presume he is referring to the charnley shambles but is there something more significant.

How is NUFC not being run like other clubs?

  • Nut

Didn’t make Rafa’s plans and whilst had major pottential that proved to be hampered by his lack of willingness to improve his English communication skills.

Had he done work on this then perhaps he would have made it into the team, certainly looked good enough in his first season.

However in this scenario I would say Rafa knows best.

May eventually go on to be a big hit elsewhere but unless he improves his English that’s unlikely to be here in England.

Going forward hopefully we can use any money from his sale to bolster the team with some signings however if being paid in instalments as usual expect that to be less than the total fee.

  • Nut

When Rafa says we are not being run like a proper football club he is talking about a lack of investment back into the facilities at the club.

Other clubs constantly invest back into their infrastructure to improve things such as the training facilities, academy set up etc etc.

    This has not been happening.

The model Ashley has used to date of buy low sell high is in principle a good idea and can work, but it should be combined with investment into the training facilities and youth structure.

The returns pottential that would provide would be far greater just look at Southampton, Manure, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man C, Tottenham, etc etc.

It might not pay off right away but it would in time.

This is the reason Rafa is frustrated, however equally I can also understand Ashley’s reasoning for not wanting to put investment into these areas.

If Ashley was planning to stay as owner long term then you can bet your bottom dollar he would invest in this.

However since he hasn’t and just does the buy low sell high thing this is suggestive that he is reticent to put money into this side of things that he probably won’t get to see a return on.

It would probably take a commitment from him towards once again being a long term owner in order for him to do this, as yet this is something he hasn’t done.

For some of you on here perhaps as you strongly desire him to go then this is perhaps actually a good thing as were he to actually put the money in then he would likely not sell unless a new owner compensated him for his extra investment and that would push the price of the club ever higher.

Ashley isn’t asset stripping I suspect he is simply not putting more money into the club and is trying to get back from the club his own investment / loans to date.

    • Mike

no one is interested in buying this club
