Newcastle United win Super Club NI Globe final
Newcastle United have once again taken part in the Super Cup NI.
The young Magpies kicked off their group games on Monday night in the annual football competition in Northern Ireland.
The event saw Newcastle’s young stars (NUFC Under 17s) taking part for the seventh year in a row, the tournament running until today (Friday 27 July).
The group stage saw them up against three opponents: from Japan, Chile and Northern Ireland.
Formerly known as the Milk Cup, the Super Cup NI, Newcastle took on local side Co Down in their opening group match.
Scoring very late, Newcastle snatched a 2-2 draw.
Tuesday saw Newcastle United pick up a 1-0 win over Deportes Iqique (Chile).
Them Wednesday had Newcastle United repeating that scoreline against Ichifuna (Japan)
On the basis of points gained in the group games, teams proceeded to the semi finals of the various semi-finals, Newcastle were joint top of their group on seven points but Co Down had a better goal difference.
So rather than the top Super Cup NI semi-finals, Newcastle ended up in the second (of four levels) Super Cup NI Globe semi-finals.
Newcastle drawing 0-0 with Co Antrim in the semi-finals, before winning 4-3 on penalties.
On Friday afternoon they played their Super Cup NI Globe final and easily beat Co Armagh 3-0.
