Whilst other clubs spend, spend, spend, for Newcastle fans it has been a different story.

Newcastle United are sitting on a transfer profit around the £15m mark so far this summer and the only new face on top of last season is free transfer Ki Sung-yueng.

February onwards saw a real upturn, with in particular a run of five wins and a draw within seven matches sending Rafa’s team into a safe position, Premier League football assured.

One of those to really pick up his form in the later stages of last season was Ayoze Perez.

The former Tenerife player had only two Premier League goals up until the 31 March but in the final six weeks of the season added another six goals.

That late form has led to the Newcastle striker being named as one of five ‘bargain buys’ for the upcoming season.

Sky Sports Fantasy Football expert Dan Cox picked out five bargain buys and included Ayoze Perez, declaring him ‘the controversial pick of the pack.’

As well as his goals and assist, Dan Cox pointed to an increased involvement in those final stages of the season, Perez having 21 shots over the course of the final seven matches.

Sky Sports:

Here are Dan’s five picks to defy their modest price tags in Sky Sports Fantasy Football this season…

Marko Arnautovic (£10.1m)

Mat Ryan (£6.5m)

Kieran Trippier (£8.5m)

Richarlison (£8.6m)

Ayoze Perez (£9.8m)

“Perhaps the controversial pick of the pack, Ayoze Perez has struggled to fulfil the sort of expectations which once saw him linked with Real Madrid.

“However, he finished last season in sensational form, with direct involvement in eight goals (five goals, three assists) in Newcastle’s final eight matches.

“The underlying stats were also encouraging, with 21 shots in his final seven games, suggesting that upturn in form should be more than just temporary.”

This coming season is the defining moment for Perez, i hope he can sustain the form he showed in the latter part of last season

    • Geordiegiants

The same goes for around 11 of them.

We have no real alternative to perez so hes a great fantasy player as he’s not injury prone so has the potential to play 38 games and will pop up with a few goals

  • DeadToiler

Ayoze is a good player, he’s never got the recognition he deserves. Not interested in fantasy football whatsoever – it’s just for gamblers.

I’m surprised a lot of our fans haven’t got him down as the next super striker. Mitro scores 9 one season and he is one of the best strikers in the prem now.
