The Newcastle United squad is now taking a bit of shape with five players out and four in.

You are only allowed to name a maximum of 25 senior players for your squad once the transfer window closes, and with Aleksandar Mitrovic now confirmed as a Fulham player, Rafa has exactly 25.

This doesn’t take into account any of those still classed as Under 21 players, which for the coming season is anybody born on or after 1 January 1997. So if they don’t go out on loan, any/all of Victor Fernandez, Sean Longstaff, Freddie Woodman, Callum Roberts, Adam Armstrong, and Josef Yarney (as well as the other younger players), could play for Newcastle in addition to the maximum 25 senior players that will be named.

At the moment, Newcastle United/Mike Ashley are/is sitting on a transfer profit of around £35m so far.

£42m sales (so far): Chancel Mbemba (£6m), Mikel Merino (£10m), Jack Colback loan (free transfer), Aleksandar Mitrovic (£22m), Matz Sels (£4m)

£7m buys (so far…): Fabian Schar £3m), Kenedy (loan), Ki Sung-yueng (free transfer), Martin Dubravka (£4m)

This is how the senior Newcastle United squad looks at the minute, with 25 players;

Goalkeepers

Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot

Full-Backs

DeAndre Yedlin, Paul Dummett, Javier Manquillo, Jamie Sterry, Achraf Lazaar

Centre-Backs

Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune, Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schar

Wingers

Matt Ritchie, Kenedy, Jacob Murphy, Christian Atsu, Rolando Aarons

Central Midfielders

Mohamed Diame, Jonjo Shelvey, Ki Sung-Yueng, Henri Saivet, Isaac Hayden

Strikers

Dwight Gayle, Ayoze Perez, Joselu

With Florian Lejeune set to be out for most/all of the season (a new 25 man squad is named after the January window, so Rafa can use Lejeune’s space in his squad that will be named in August for somebody else), that takes us down to 24 senior players.

Isaac Hayden wants to leave, Dwight Gayle looks very likely to leave, whilst at a minimum Rafa is very keen to move on Henri Saivet, Rolando Aarons, Achraf Lazaar and Jamie Sterry as well. If those six leave, it would take Rafa down to 18 senior players and three of those would be goalkeepers.

Yoshinori Muto is waiting for a work permit (his £9.5m transfer fee would/will take down the summer transfer profit down to £25.5m) so that would take us back up to 19 in the senior squad(if those other players left).

Whilst if Dwight Gayle does go, it would almost certainly see Salomon Rondon arriving, taking us effectively to 20 senior players who Rafa would be interested in using, plus Isaac Hayden if he doesn’t get his exit wish.

I think what we are looking at, is a position where Rafa Benitez is going to make a decent number of further changes, both in and out. Not exactly ideal when the window closes in 10 days time and the season starts in 12 days.

Good news though that after getting a number of unwanted players out, Rafa is starting to create space to bring in other targets.

Whatever we end up with at 5pm on Thursday 9 August, it won’t be ideal. However, at least Rafa Benitez may well have brought in a number of players who he believes can be of use, even if he has been forced to go a long way down his list of preferred targets.

    #IfAshleyGoesWeThrive

    Ashley out!

    • Peter C

Hopefully you’re right, surely there can’t be a worse owner on the planet than him.

But knowing our luck, we may just find one.

Please, Mr Ashley sell up, and torture some other set of individuals.

  • Tino11

    The main question should be;

Is the squad weaker, the same or better?

    • Soldier

      It`s not better

      • Ben Jones

        I can’t believe it’s not better

        • Soldier

          go away

          • Jezza

If everybody just completely ignores him he will, I guarantee it.

          • Soldier

i just either ignore them or tell them to go away

          • Ben Jones

Yes. Listen to Jezza, infact, block me, give me free reign over your comments…

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

I tell them what i think then block them & they are that thick they still comment on a post knowing you can`t see it.
            unbelievable idiots

          • Ben Jones

I know man, that’s why your replies are specifically to me and to my comment, because you’ve blocked me

          • Jezza

You’re not wrong there. My posts always seem to be followed by a series of “This user is blocked.”s

          • Mike Adam

Why?, everyone else can still see it. “I tell them what I think then block them” brilliant mate!!!!! Can’t deal with opinions different than yours?

        • Chuck D

Can’t you change back to Monkseaton again, those posts were so ridiculous they made me laugh?

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          That`s because you`re a [email protected]@king Idiot

        • Blackandwhite9

Think you meant to use a “u” and not an “e”… free advertising … now where did you get that idea from ??

          • Ben Jones

            At least someone got it

      • Tino11

I agree, at a stretch you could say it’s about the same as last season but with Lejeune’s injury, at this moment in time it’s weaker until we get another central defender as cover.

      • Jezza

True. Factor in Lejeune’s injury and it’s definitely weaker…and that’s before anything that may or may not happen with Lascelles before the deadline.

        • Soldier

yes and if they buy Rondon to replace Gayle in my opinion it`s like for like

    • Jate Legend

If we swap Gayle for Rondon, I think it is better. It isn’t significantly better, but it is better.

      • Tino11

I think in the right circumstances, (number of games in a row etc) they would provide a similar return, so at this stage I think, for me personally it’s like a similar swap.

Obviously I hope Rafa gets an extra 10-20% out of Rondon and he gives us a better than expected return.

        • Robert Petch

He might look a different player with better players around him. Don’t forget who was his manager in the not so distant past…

          • Tino11

Well I do hope that is the case, fingers crossed.

    • Jezza

Yes that’s one question. The other question is are the teams that finished below us last season as well as the three promoted teams weaker, the same or better?

      • Tino11

Well I think we can safely say they are certainly putting in as much effort and investment as possible to make their squads better than ours, where as we are putting in minimum effort and worse still, minimum cash outlay.

        • Jezza

Other clubs are using the transfer window to strengthen their teams for the season ahead while our owner, as ever, is using it to generate profit.

  • Ben Jones

The loan deals have fees attached to them

    • TheFatController

No wonder they call us ‘the Bank of England Club’

      • Ben Jones

No but I believe they used to call the mackems that

        • TheFatController

I like that you’ve used irony in your reply Ben.

Not enough people pick up on irony on here, however, so use it sparingly.

Ironically, I sometimes do use it on here.

          • Ben Jones

            Did my ironing yesterday

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

that must be difficult coping with a Flat head,

          • Ben Jones

            It must

          • Soldier

it`s ill advised to converse with a troll it`s akin to arguing with an idiot

          • TheFatController

I write for the entertainment of my non-trolling fellow fans.

Lighten this place up as the trolls seem to make it tough reading which I think is unfair on the decent fan and should be stopped.

But if I can make people chuckle along the way, that’s at least something to reduce the frustrations these days

          • Desree

I am in the process of developing an AI algorithm that automatically responds to trolls and counters every argument. Never stopping.

How much fun it will be watching Clarko and Goar Rider argue with a machine.

          • TheFatController

I always a swine they argue with themselves. Like Gollum. Except Gollum’s the looker of the three…

      • Angelswithdirtyfaces

Remember we used to have Northern Rock on the shirt !

        • Mike Adam

I have two with Northern Rock on.

          • Paul Patterson

            The last top I bought.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

My old man has a signed Shearer shirt & a Real Madrid one signed by Butragueno. both framed

          • Mike Adam

            Yeah pre-Ashley

  • Paul Patterson

You can rest assured, there will still be a profit at the end of the window. Keep your eyes in the sky for a helicopter with Lascelles in it. 🚁👋
Plus, tonight there was reports that he’s going to bail out the chain House of Fraser at £50m. So that profit has already been allocated.💰💰

    • Ben Jones

Have House of Fraser asked Newcastle United Football Club for a loan? Or are you perhaps getting NUFC and Ashley’s other business interests mixed up?

      • TheFatController

I love the irony you’ve used there Ben. That’s Paul’s ruse to make us believe it’ll be coming direct from us and not Ashley really ruthlessly exposed for the made up nonsense it clearly is. It’s like that thing they talk about a lot that is called ‘fake news’.

I salute your endeavour to protect the common fan who doesn’t understand finance from such scurrilous inaccurate reporting.

        Shame on you Paul Patterson.

        • Ben Jones

          Ok

          • TheFatController

I mean, he uses two money bags emojis – like £50m, even if in £50 notes, is going to fit in two bags.

Not only is that unrepresentative, it’s also nonsense as any loan would be taken by House of Fraser using that bank transfer thing people can use these days. It’s quite new but doesn’t involve money bags, basically.

          • Ben Jones

I wouldn’t read too much into the emojis if I was you

          • TheFatController

I’m seeing a hand, a money bag, and a helicopter.

That could mean anything. But on a totally different slant, i’d not be surprised if Ashley took some club to the last knockings of the transfer window desperate for a CB and Lascelles was on Ashley’s helicopter to Leicester for a medical there.

But the emojis? No idea sorry.

          • Ben Jones

            Ok

          • Paul Patterson

            👋💰🚁

    • Big Hairy Man

House of Fraser soon to become a bargain basement tat shop. He’s denegrated every other brand he’s taken over.

  • Anonymouse1

£35m up and that doesn`t include the tv money, sponsor money or money coming in from past sales, the guy`s a thief

    • Jezza

£35 million in profit now but what will that figure be by the end of the window? I’ve got a grim feeling it will be even higher.

      • Wezza

        Ashley is an utter disgrace.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          He`s a Scumbag

      • Soldier

quite a few of us seen it coming & you know who they are

      • Mrkgw

Add another £40m for Lascelles. ASHLEY OUT!

  • Stephen Paylor

    Sissoko/Thauvin installments.

Then what looks like a sale of Gayle and loan of Rondon generating another 10 million at least.

I would guess the net surplus on transfers will be around 40 million this year. Everyone was estimating a 70 million spend this year. It is AMAZING what the reality has been. If we stay up this year it will be incredible as i am sure no other team in the league will have a net surplus let alone approaching 50 million

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

There`s only one man that can keep us up,
i`m just hoping Fatso hasn`t knocked his plug in but he`s a top professional & will try to save us and walk away with his head held high

      • Wezza

I feel if Rafa does keep us up, then what? Leave holding his head held high, more excuses not to spend, a yes man manager, avoid relegation, collect 100M+ TV money and repeat.
Some day he will be gone and when he does we will have our club back!

        • Soldier

when Rafa leave we go down the season after

    • Jezza

Not everybody expected a big net spend this summer. I knew there was no way Fatso would allow any of the profits to go on strengthening a team that finished 10th when they only need to finish 17th. Back in May on this forum I predicted a £60 million profit. If Lascelles goes before the deadline I will have been pretty much spot on.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

I think the Lejeune injury may scuttle that one Jezz
it`s a bridge to far even for the Pig

        • Geordiegiants

Nah I don’t think so MMM. He will make Rafa struggle on, he has for 2 years without a striker, centre half makes no difference to him.

        • Jezza

I don’t know. Can you really see Fatso turning down an offer of £35 to £40 million? When there’s money on offer he will always grab it, he just can’t help himself, like the parable of the scorpion it’s just his nature.

That ID is missing from the season tickets page too after he claimed 79 were left. Busted. The trolls always slip up.
His other ID even wanted to bet we would have 25M net spend. Sgt Bilko is red faced!

      • Superdooperhooper

He’s trolling as Ben Jones now
Monkseaton went quiet and now this Jones has got vocal. One goes out and another comes in .Ben even defended Monkseaton in one of his posts. Totally obvious

        • Ben Jones

To be fair I don’t think anyone appreciates you saying I’m them, Monkseatons views are closest to my own, I have no shame in admitting that

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

they are all obvious, just as they are all Pathetic

        • Wezza

Can you stop posting nonaense like this on here. It’s for serious matters about the toon, and light hearted banter, not for people who are self medicating various problems they have that really need professional help, certainly not fuelling by interacting with strangers on the world wide web…

          • Ben Jones

People who believe there’s 2 brothers from Manchester trolling this site need medical intervention

          • TheFatController

Ben, you are sat on this site morning noon and night.

You’re posts don’t follow any normal, healthy pattern. For all you appears calm, and in control, that’s not really the case is it?

I shall block you from now on as you’ve nothing new to show me – you’re actually very repetitive with about 3 major tactics of antagonism which is ab expected trait – stick to what works for you – as I’ve studied psychotherapy, and it’s just a shame you have a life that needs this type of interaction with strangers – to everyone without psychotherapy knowledge you seem a prize idiot, but to me you must be in desperately avoiding something major and distracting by antagonising and trying to outwit people on here – it’s a little unnerving to see someone unraveling and always posting every article, every hour.

I might be completely wrong, but spending every hour of today on here battling strangers is no different from when you see people on the street antagonising strangers all day for kicks. Your behaviour only differs in that I presume you’re not accessing here all day whilst in the street….

          • Ben Jones

Dear God. Have you read the depression in these people’s comments, not satisfied with writing this transfer window off already they’ve advanced their depressive thoughts to ‘it all going downhill when rafa leaves at the end of the season’ , that’s just the ones who aren’t actively wanting the club to tank in a belief it will shake off our owner. Save your amateur psychology for these poor souls

          • TheFatController

So you’re using the tactic of shaming my qualifications as amateur ?

You believe that tactic works? A tactic reliant on the person shaming having credibility with the target?

You can only shame when you have credibility with the target. That’s why you come on here, because non-cyber life has rendered you without any credibility.

If I’m not correct, I present the evidence to readers that if I’m not right, when are you not on here enjoying that credibility in the real world?

The real world offers you nothing. Hence your living vicariously on here, where you can ‘matter’ when you get reactions from people passionate about NUFC.

That may well be amateur, but most of what I know is qualified. But what would I know, you’re the one with the credibility in psychotherapy. I think.

          • Ben Jones

I think you’re reading a little too much into it professor. I appreciate your extended hand offering help but it would be much better served on people who have block lists 50 strong believing they’re all 2 people. It’s not healthy

  • Steven05

Just about every other club is excited for the new season (because that’s football)

    I love Rafa

I said this time last year he was too good for us

He is the only good thing about our club these days. And yet, I can’t help but feel Rafa being here is just delaying the inevitable collapse

    • Shipcote Willy

Agree. It was pure good luck getting Rafa and his inevitable departure iis part of the reason for lack of enthusiasm for the new season. Imagine where we would be with this squad last season with another puppet in charge

      • Geordiegiants

Probably someone like Jack Ross next season.

        • Toontaff

As long as it’s not Chris Coleman – Managed to get beaten into third place by Serbia and Ireland, despite being the highest ranked team in qualifying by some margin. Even Pardew/McClaren/Carver could have got Wales to the World Cup with Bale, Ramsey, and co! Was so pleased when he went you know where………..

  • Shipcote Willy

The vulture trying to get his claws into House of Fraser. Pity the company if he has a say in it. Already £35m profit this window and it would not surprise me if he brought Rondon on a loan and sold Gayle to add to his profit. No future under the odious owner

    • Ben Jones

      *clubs profit

      • Danimal

        Belt up.

      • Geordiegiants

        HIS

        • Ben Jones

          You’re clueless buddy

        • Ben Jones

That’s your problem kidda, he owns the club 100% and you want him to lose out, can’t you see the flaw in your wishes?

          • Geordiegiants

I’m more than happy to make sacrifices, I would still be a Newcastle fan in the northern league kidda.

    • Desree

House of Fraser, piled high with Georgio Georgini and Donnay.

    • Geordiegiants

I know have you seen Debenhams now he’s into it? It’s like cheapshitfromchinadotcom with it’s cheapshit sale tags all over the place now. Everything he owns is like a jumble sale, including HIS football club.

  • Lewis SG

I thought Gayle is pretty useful with his pace and stretching opposition’s defence. He can still contribute one way or another. Pity.

As for Rondon, surely we could afford him with one year left in his contract. Who is that idiot doing negotiations and yet wanting to give away our no. 9 and £3m for a player left with one-year contract. This is bad news.

  • SuperDesHamilton

What blows my mind is the incompetence of the pepole in charge of this club. They knew Muto would need a work permit but have left it this late so he’s late getting into the team etc…

    • Vodkamagpie

Are you complaining about us signing a player. Transfer negotiations take time, mitrovic is a good example, could of sold him 2 weeks ago for 16mil, and now we get 22mil. Time of players arrival at the club are the last thing on the boards mind, getting the right players at the right price in a busy transfer window is the main objective

      • SuperDesHamilton

I’m complaining about the incompetence of the people involved with transfers like Tea Boy & you’ve totally utterly missed my point.

Muto is Asian & I think hasn’t played enough games to get a work permit quickly, if I’m in charge of transfer I’d of done the homework knew that & tried to push it along or get the wheels moving at least a week or two earlier. That’s what normal sensible people would do though

        • Vodkamagpie

Oh, I see, you didn’t think they knew he was Asian and would require a work permit. That must be the only key factor in the transfer, right haha, you crack me up

          • SuperDesHamilton

Clearly they didn’t otherwise it would of been tied up a while ago & he’d Be comfortably integrated into the squad. That’s what a competent MD/DOF would do not Lee Charnley

          • Vodkamagpie

There must be so many different variables in a transfer, potential players leaving your club, other transfer targets with their transfer situations, every players transfer status changes constantly depending on movements of other clubs. Their are a million pieces of a puzzle, and you are complaining how much time it takes for the club to try and find the correct piece

          • SuperDesHamilton

No I’m complaining about my clubs ineptness. You’ve had a mare here

    • ghostrider

How can you apply for a work permit for a player who you haven’t signed?
Only when you sign a player can you then apply for a work permit for him.

It’s not about leaving things late. Look at all clubs still dealing.
Very few clubs do their business early. Most do their business late.

  • nufcslf

The only thing that blows my mind is what an absolute total c**t Cashley is. Death is too good for the piece of sh*t.

  • Rob

Learned from this mornings news our club has helped lined Ashley’s pockets enough to consider a £50 million loan to house of Fraser.

with his weight and drinking he’ll probably die before selling Newcastle.

    • Geordiegiants

      🤞 he dies soon.

    • Ben Jones

Ah so it is NUFC who have lent House of Fraser, I thought it would have been Ashley’s other business interests but I’m glad that you have confirmed it IS Newcastle United Football Club that is lending the money.

      • Rob

Re read the comment. I suggest our club has provided Ashley/Mash with funds to enable the loan not make the loan itself.

        • Ben Jones

What makes you think this given he’s taken nothing out of the club thus far?

    • Peter C

Liver failure, diabetes, or heart attack, waiting to happen.

      The question is, when.

    • MadMag83

We live in hope. Although given his greedy nature, he’ll probably have his fortune buried with him.

  • Toontaff

Where’s Ben Jones and co? – I ask in the singular, though maybe our resident mental health professionals can enlighten me as to whether I should refer to people with multiple ‘personalities’ in the plural?

  • Toontaff

Is there actually a Toon site that is not rife with trolls, WUMs and loonies? Yet to find one. The Chronic’s comments section is nuts, whilst that Dr Ed’s comments contain some total fruits. The other sites’ comments sections are usually empty.

    • Geordiegiants

Time to move away from here unless The mag start to do something about it.

      • Toontaff

It starts of being amusing, but, honestly, it is very tedious seeing the same arguments over and over. That ‘Ben Jones’ stands out at present as the worst culprit, but I do wonder how/why they appear to be on here almost all day, every day. I do feel sorry for them.
I’m sure the vast majority of us just want to discuss any Toon news/rumours, even if views may differ, whilst humour and banter are a must for all Toon fans!

        • Toontaff

of ~ off, before I get spellchecked! That seems to be the trolls’ weapon of choice, when other weapons have failed!

          • Wezza

Ben Jones I said just one alias of the Lee brothers who are MUFC season ticket holders. One of them works for s*****s d*******t and they troll here daily on different aliases. Clarko, Fleckman, monkseaton, vodkamagpie, nut, mark potter, comeandtakeit86. The best thing to do is block them as you can’t see what they write and it infuriates them. Very very sad old men.

          • Toontaff

            Just very tedious! And sad!
Whilst some Toon fans prefer to ignore/blot out all things Ashley, I really do not believe any real Toon fan actually would support or defend him.
I was prepared to give him a final chance, with us getting promoted back to the PL, finishing 10th, with a great manager and a hard working group of players. It seemed so simple to just strengthen the squad with sensible purchases, given how much money had just been made available through Sky and to keep Rafa onside. A more comfortable mid to top half of the PL finish, with maybe a cup run would be realistic targets for us, but we’re already expecting another tense season battling relegation.

          • Wezza

I think most fans expected tv money to be spent and not pocketed by MA. It seemed obvious that he wouldn’t allow much if anything to be spent since we finished 10th when the priority is 17th. I didn’t expect there to be a massive 35M profit made though!

          • FatParosite

A downturn in results will have Ashley’s tick gone and several thousand fans agreeing with the sacking. He will have killed Bambi and the happy clappers will say nothing.

        • SuperDesHamilton

Ben Jones etc…are on here because of Leazes jezza etc..

          • Toontaff

Maybe they could all just get a room?

          • SuperDesHamilton

Then lot love saying they are gonna block people, why don’t they just do it without telling everyone. It’s because they love attention it’s mind boggling

          • Toontaff

It does all seem a bit over dramatic!

          • SuperDesHamilton

            Correct

          • JonMag

and how do you work that one Genius, you`re full of schit.
they`v only appeared since you arrived

          • SuperDesHamilton

Have you got a mental illness? Are you related to maximus, you’s write awfully similar…like two absolute Half heads

        • Geordiegiants

          100% agree!

        • Ben Jones

‘King hell mate, I’ve posted on here 4 days of the last 3months, Almost all day every day indeed. You’ve no idea what it’s like having a different opinion to morons, what happens is the morons round up on you, where’s my right to discuss toon stuff? People try and take it away

      • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

GG, who are they? I thought you were open to different opinions, one of the good guys?

        • Geordiegiants

Bobbi, it’s obvious the wind up matchants and the people with different opinions.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Which group do I belong to?

      • JonMag

block them i login and half the posts are missing because of those idiots, ignore them & they`ll go away

        • Hughie_Gallacher

Exactly my point. It’s a much better read with the trolls blocked.

      • Ben Jones

Grow up child. It’s people with different opinions, that’s all, if you want protected from other people’s opinions then lock yourself in dark room ya big girls blouse

    • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

      Try Notbbc

  • Hughie

Once again demonstrates that the sell before you buy policy means a last minute panic. The club claims to be active in the market throughout the year so why has it taken 2.5 months to remain stuck with the likes of Lazaar, Saivet, etc. Answer: misjudgement in signing duds and overpaying them. The club’s HR system is so clearly inefficient and lacking the necessary level of skills to compete effectively, and with the nil risk neutral outlay policy they are again toying with relegation. Folly.

    • FatParosite

It was working with Graham Carr…. Unfortunately the peanuts paid for the manger role meant it attracted monkeys and mice. Who were unable to make anything of Thauvin and Cabella.

  • FatParosite

I meant to post this here:
