Good luck to Gateshead FC.

Newcastle United’s neighbours on the other side of the Tyne have finally been sold to new owners.

Gateshead releasing an official club statement confirming the news on Wednesday.

An earlier proposed sale of the club in May had fallen through but now it will be Dr Ranjan Varghese, a businessman currently on the board of directors of Steel Ships Limited based in Hong Kong, who will assume control.

The sale as been approved by both the National League and the Football Association.

BBC Newcastle report that former NUFC star Steve Watson will continue as Gateshead’s manager.

Here’s hoping Newcastle fans might get similar news of a sale of their club before too long…11 years and counting under Mike Ashley.

I do go to the odd heed game let’s hope it’s a bright future

    • Icky (Heaton)

Same, been to quite s few over the years, I/we needed a place to burn that Saturday afternoon itch, until that odious 💩 is out, but I’ll still continue, got used to the facility’s now 😉

      • Ba ba.

Needs a new stadium it has to be the worst place to watch football…. In fact I played there years ago and its utter toss to play there

  • SuperDesHamilton

Couldn’t pay me to watch them semi Mackems. Wrong side of the tyne

    • Keith

How can you call Gateshead semi makes unbelievable obviously don’t know where Geordies come from

    • Stephen Paylor

      what a plonker

      • SuperDesHamilton

Because I don’t care about a team over the water from me?

        • Stephen Paylor

no, because you exclude people from anywhere south of the tyne to be toon fans. NUFC have more fans south of the tyne than north. Suppose Gazza was a Mackem too? Stevie Harper from East Durham must also be a mackem is he? I know a bus full of lads from Peterlee that go to every game home and away with NUFC who might not like you calling them mackems also.

          • SuperDesHamilton

Yep all correct. Should go support Gateshead. Hahaha you know a load of lads who get on a bus from Peterlee…and 😂😂😂 what could they do? Just mackems on a bus

          • Stephen Paylor

well at least your funny Des, that’s something i suppose

          • Stephen Paylor

if you werent allowed to cross the tyne to go to a game St James would be half empty every week

          • SuperDesHamilton

That’s debatable but then again every team has day tripper supporters

          • JohnnyNUFC

Just as a Cockney is often colloquially defined as someone “born within the sound of the Bow bells”, the term Geordie is sometimes defined as “within spitting distance of the Tyne”

    • Stephen Paylor

NUFC probably have more fans south of the Tyne than the North

      • SuperDesHamilton

        Plastics

        • Davey drape

never ever abused anyone on a website before – but you’re an idiot super des

          • SuperDesHamilton

            🎣🎣🎣

      • Davey drape

Stephen well said. i am an east end lad & now live in durham for last 27 years but yes i am also confident we have more toon fans south of the tyne>>>>was going to reply to super des Hamilton with exactly the same comment. this attitude amongst toon fans north off the tyne really pees me off. often got off a northbound train at durham after a toon game on london to be called a mackem. ppl like super des need to ducking grow up. and oh in germany last year pre season and must have met 20 plus toon fans from the south east of england

    • Phil carey

Bit of a weirdo this one ! So i was born in Gateshead on the banks of the tyne , I could see st James park from my bedroom window and as a child could hear the roar of the crowd when we scored from my garden , but apparently im a semi mackem ? and clearly at least one person thinks i have no right to be a geordie. How many supporters does this clown think newcastle would attract if no one south of our river was counted as proper supporters ?

      • SuperDesHamilton

        So another plastic then

        • Phil carey

Yeah same as gasgoine Andy caroll , bobby robson , not worthy to breathe the same air south of the river

          • SuperDesHamilton

They can play/manage no problem I’m not a bigot. Just think you lot are plastics

          • Phil carey

Its ok i get it, your special , you probably get told that a lot?keep smiling and stay “special”

          • SuperDesHamilton

You can’t handle my opinion on your plastic ness to resort to name calling, pretty sad

          • Phil carey

You declared yourself superior i aggreed with you ?? Hows that sad ??

          • SuperDesHamilton

I get it’s hard being bitter waking up every morning knowing you’re plastic

          • Phil carey

Im not disagreeing, you are clearly more worthy to follow the club , as i say your obviously “special” keep saying it to yourself everyday, bless

          • Ba ba.

            Ah bless you des

          • Icky (Heaton)

Wow, do the world a big favour and don’t breed!

          • SuperDesHamilton

            Raging

        • Ba ba.

Your not well are you des

        • Squintytoonarmy

I was born in Gateshead but now live in Gloucestershire. Put my neck on the line at millwall, West Ham, Chelsea etc in the 80s. Good set of other lads from down south who followed the toon in those days eg Kev from Stow on the Wold, Mick Weir from Oxford etc. I’d love to see you call them plastic – have a bit of respect

          • SuperDesHamilton

‘Put your neck on the line’ 😂😂😂 ok bear grylls!

          • Squintytoonarmy

Your username gives your age away – you was probably at crèche in the 80s or attending your Norwegian clog dancing session

          • SuperDesHamilton

Aye a was doing that while you were putting your neck on the line at millwall with Indiana Jones & John Mclane! I’ll give the queen a bell see if she can knock you a Victoria cross up

      • Waxi

Gateshead situated in south TYNESIDE part of tyne & wear says it all me thinks. Just as Geordie as the rest of us. No need to panic Phil you are and will always be one of us and i was on the other bank of the tyne Wallsend

    • Gallowgate Dave

Out of interest where were you born and where do you live?

      • SuperDesHamilton

West end 5 minutes from St. James

        • Gallowgate Dave

Your answer is a bit too general for me to say as the “West End” could be Scotswood, Benwell, Elswick, Fenham or further afield like Denton or I’ve even had people describe Throckley and Lemington as “West End” to me so I don’t know where you are from your answer. My point was going to be you could live on the banks of the Tyne in Gateshead and be closer to St James Park than most on the north side of the Tyne. I’ve had nutters at away matches telling me I’m not a Geordie even though I was born on the banks of the Tyne, my sons were born in Newcastle, I’ve lived, worked and socialised in Toon all my life and yet when I’ve asked them where they are from it’s been Blyth, Cramlington, Ashington, North Shields. Bit laughable really. Even if you were born and raised in The Black Bull on Barrack Road your parochialism does you no favours, stadium would be half empty or worse with your definition.

          • SuperDesHamilton

I got bored about 5 words in, save that story for bed time

          • Gallowgate Dave

Sorry fella I should have accounted for your intellect and given you a pop up version.

          • SuperDesHamilton

Should of saved your time to be honest

          • Ba ba.

Why do you come on just to wind people up?
Is your xbox broke or something?

          • SuperDesHamilton

I’m expressing an opinion. You not got any missions to do, you cantankerous old gonk. A bet you stink of P***

  • Danimal

Even supposed basket case Aston Villa have managed to attract ambitious new owners.

  • London_Mag

Gateshead should call themselves Newcastle Gateshead and then we could all support them when rafa leaves. With no fans Ashley would be in trouble and we could get the freemen to kick him out of SJP due to lack of proper use. Newcastle Gateshead could then move to SJP and change their name to Newcastle United. Ashley will have lost £450 Million and 55,000 can support our team again! Not too disimilar to what happened at Rangers!

  • Peter C

If only this could happen, but does lightening strike twice, nearly in the same place.
