Aleksandar Mitrovic is still in limbo.

Despite much speculation and claims of yet more ongoing talks, he remains a Newcastle United player.

Most Fulham fans thought it was a foregone conclusion that he would be signing after the World Cup but over four weeks after Aleksandar Mitrovic exited this summer’s tournament, still nothing agreed.

Not surprisingly, the Fulham fans are getting a bit anxious with only two weeks to go until deadline day.

The London Evening Standard reported today that Mitro has now agreed personal terms with Fulham and all that is waited for is the two clubs agreeing a price.

With Fulham reported to be only willing to pay £16m and Newcastle holding out for more (between £18m and £20m depending on what you read), interesting to see what fans of the West London club are saying.

The odd one is saying let Newcastle sweat but the vast majority, as you can read below, are wanting their club to just get the asking price paid ASAP.

Comments from Fulham fans via their top FulhamWeb message board:

‘We must stop squabbling over Mitrovic money and sign him!!!

Schurrie is a good player, but he isn’t a striker to guarantee us 25 goals. He could score up to 15 going from his stats.

That is why Mitrovic is so important to us. Mitrovic will get his goals from set-pieces and corners, and he will do the donkey work and occupy 2 defenders, and that will enable or wingers to do their running etc.

With Mitro in the team, it is possible that Sessegnon and Schurrie will hit 15 goals plus.

Mitrovic is key to our final jigsaw, and we just need to sign him whatever. Benitez knows how dangerous Mitrovic is, and he will not have forgotten Newcastle’s defeat to Fulham without Mitrovic.

We must go Cap in hand with a 20 million cheque to Newcastle, and sign Mitrovic. Everything will fall into place then, and we can get on with our season.’

‘If the money we are talking about is a discrepancy of 4 million at most? 16-20? We shouldn’t need to hold out for the best deal.

Saving 50p and collecting points on a Tesco club card is a different ballgame. We have some, not all the play-off funds available to us. It would be a shame if we lose Mitrovic for the sake of saving a few million quid. I am positive that most Fulham fans would be fuming if we lose Mitrovic because of this.’

‘I cannot believe that we are haggling over paying £18mln for Aleksandar Mitrovic, someone that has proven himself at Fulham, loves playing for us and will be necessary to increase our fire power. Please get this resolved asap.’

‘Have to agree. We need a settle team by the start of the season.’

‘We don’t know what’s been said or agreed. maybe there’s a point of principle Fulham want to make.

Remember, Newcastle would probably have sold Mitro for £12m only 6months ago.

Also, was there some gentleman agreement on what Fulham would pay should we want to buy him.

Also, given we are buying players in the 20-30m bracket, maybe we are really looking for someone even better than Mitro – maybe Mitro wants a guarantee no.1 status. etc etc.’

‘Newcastle need a replacement which is going to cost 20 million, Ashley hates putting his hand in his pocket.’

‘Mitro is worth every penny of the £20m so for gods sake pay the money and lets get him prepared properly for the new season as we can’t afford to have a bad start like last season.’

‘We should get a big discount for making him into a £20m player, after all Newcastle paid £13m for him and he has been a failure for them, so much so they loaned him out to us a Championship team last January .

FFC should play hard ball with Ashley or go for someone else but please not Gayle.’

‘I believe NUFC are jetting off to Portugal today. They need to make a call if they take Mitro with them or not. If they do, I suspect the deal will not happen and we will go elsewhere. if they leave Mitro behind, means they will want to do a deal with Fulham.

The other scenario is if Mitro refuses to travel…while I think professionally it would be wrong for Mitro to do that, but it would be interesting!’

‘Earlier in the year Mitro was valued around 12 mil. Then he started scoring for fun, did sort of OK at the world cup and suddenly, because we “need” him he’s worth 20!

There are other needs in play here, Benitez needs money before he can buy and everyone knows he doesn’t want Mitro. So, wait patiently, let them sweat, turn up the heat.’

  • Wor Lass

I like Mitro but I`m heartily sick of this saga now. Rafa doesn`t want him and won`t play him so he needs to go. As I said on another thread, this is the inevitable result of all and sundry knowing that Rafa HAS to sell in order to buy. Brilliant business strategy by the Oracle of Sh*tebrook – let your adversaries know your weakness before negotiations begin!

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      the Fat Guy`s greed,
Rafa would sell him for £15 to £16m because quite frankly that`s all he`s worth

  • Albert Stubbins

Fatso has seen that Traore is worth 18 Million and Richarlason a reported 40-45 million and put another 10 million on the price- Traore is a glorified Olympic sprinter and Richarlason a one month wonder. The pricing of some of these players is crazy. If Fulham don’t sump up the 20 million we’re asking for after the silly amounts they’ve already paid for players then its clear whats happened here- the goal posts have been moved by the fat one and we’re going to be left with a unhappy player who no one will buy and Benitez wont play.

  • Paul Patterson

Pointless debate if Rafa only gets £5m to spend now and the rest is in instalments. I’ve said before, I’d take £10m now rather than £25m spread out to be filtered away . .

    • HarryHype59

It isn’t a problem if Rafa is allowed to bring players in on staggered payments, funded by future income streams from the Wynaldum, Sissoko and Mitro deals. That way the club could afford a £25m striker .
Judging by this club’s bargain basement bin dipping, it looks like our owner is insisting players are bought outright, hence the sub £10m fees.

    • Albert Stubbins

By filtered away you mean straight in fattys pockets I take it- never to be seen again?

  • panther

A gentlemans agreement? havent they heard of Ashley?

  • Jezza

If it’s true about us signing Muto for £9 million then the sale of Mitrovic is all agreed and about to be rubber stamped. You can take that as read.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

And the profit just disappears, as usual

    • HarryHype59

Yes £9m profit for the fat one. The squad is being down graded daily.

    • Nut

Not true, Muto bought in as can play behind a lead man as well as play lead man himself.

He gives competition to Perez as well as our strikers!

      • Ram Kishore

He might be competing with perez too and if that’s the case we need another forward or if Sean longstaff makes the step up
Still the fullback issue needs to be sorted out to compete with dummet.
Lazaar is going nowhere for now.. we can still sell him by End of august

        • Nut

Team is coming along nicely and hopefully Rafa convincing Ashley that he should back him with a big contract that gives him what he desires.

Ashley’s just worried about putting money in and not seeing a return of he sells.

But maybe Rafa’s clever manipulation of the market can convince him its worth a punt again.

          • Ram Kishore

I am not gonna speculate anymore on two things – Rafa and Ashley.
Because all the above things u just clearly depends on the performance of the team on the pitch this season..
On pitch performance is the one that would make us see any of the above things materialise..
I don’t see Ashley investing anymore really..
It’s time club does really well on the pitch and slowly payoff his loans.. This is also ifs and maybe

    • Natturner26

Jezza weren’t you just saying the other day we definitely wouldn’t be signing anyone else? You are always so sure of yourself while often wrong. Don’t understand why people take you seriously on here.

      • Benmagpie

Be careful. You’ll run the risk of being lampooned and blocked by Kim jung il and vlad Putin on here. Silence the opposition. You’ll have you name researched and then you’ll be a victim of a regionalistic slight or perhaps even a Xenophobic comment by someone claiming to be an anti racist. You’ll be called a troll, and you may even get death threats. You’ll be called a moron and an idiot, by people who haven’t been to a game or had a hair cut since Gordon lee sold supermac. The funny thing is I agree with some of what the anti Ashley brigade say. I don’t particularly like any club owners but that’s just me. But because I love Newcastle United I’m a happy clapper or whatever. I don’t care what anyone else does, we each have a choice, but I for one will give each of the new signings a hardy round of applause and a Geordie welcome. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on here. That’s what makes a democracy. Clearly some folk don’t subscribe to that.

        • Superdooperhooper

Hi Ben Jones Monkseaton magpie . You’ve got to do better than that

          • Benmagpie

Haha nice. I don’t have a scooby who any of the people on here are. I think I had family in monkseaton but they emigrated to Scotland…… distant cousins. Ever thought maybe the jezza/leazes faction are all one person? Maybe there’s actually only two different people posting on here and it’s all done for click bait. Maybe I’m jezza…… and monkseaton……or maybe I’m just a run of the mill toon fan who doesn’t particularly like any club owners. Yeah some are dressed in sheeps clothing but they’re all the same in the end. In an ideal world there’d be no brexit, no Donald trump, and clubs would be owned by fans. But until then, when me Bonny Bairns step out on the breathtaking hallowed turf at cathedral st James, donned in magnificent black and white stripes, I’ll be there to cheer them on. Always have, always will. Ashley and his ilk will come and go. The feeling I get when I enter the stadium will never waver. HTL.

          • HarryHype59

Are you a member of a far left organisation? Why do lefties feel the need to give sermons on Trump, Brexit, racism and xenopobia one dry social media forum. I am surprised you didn’t manage to slip in a lecture about sexism and Islamophobia. You would have got a full line in PC bingo.

This is a forum for NUFC supporters. No one wants to hear your student union politics. Bore off back to the Commie Gill.

          • Benmagpie

You’re showing your ignorance by lumping anti brexit in with the lefties. It’s a cross party issue, on both sides. And I’m a middle aged working class father of two, not currently a member of any political organization. And really if you like Donald trump you may want to look at that.
            HTL

          • Benmagpie

And racism needs to be addressed in forums. Show racism the red card. Geordies are black and white.

          • HarryHype59

            Yawn!

          • HarryHype59

The EU is an anti democratic organisation run by globalist sock puppets. That is why so many voted Brexit.

Why do left leaning bores like you, feel they have to share their political views on Trump, Brexit, racism on a fans forum?

Stick to football, keep your political views to your self.

          • HarryHype59

I am ambivalent regarding Trump. However, I respect the fact, that like Brexit, Trump’s electoral victory came via the democratic process.

          • Benmagpie

Same reason old white tommy Robinson loving sock cuckers feel the need to get defensive when someone mentions something remotely left wing.
            HTL

          • HarryHype59

Tommy Robinson….one more tick box folk devil of the left. Haven’t you got an antifa/Brown shirt meeting to attend?

        • Nut

If people want to know who I am let them come after me!

          These idiots haven’t a clue.

Hence why they fail at every corner in their scheming to oust Ashley.

  • Nut

The arrival of Muto does in no way dictate the sale of Mitrovic, whilst Muto is indeed a striker I strongly suspect he has been bought in to play in behind a main striker as competition to Perez and as being capable of leading the line if needed.

Our incomings so far should be more than covered by the sales of those who have gone out so as long as the quality coming in is improving the squad on what was there before and it is, then we are in a good position.

Remember the out going players have virtually all been ones who Rafa wouldn’t play. This means we have a stronger squad with more depth and the new ones essentially free up more players to be sold who Rafa deems surplus to our needs.

If Mitrovic leaves then I fully expect us to get another player in to play as striker maybe even more than that.

I wouldn’t be totally suprised to see Gayle now leave as part of a deal for Rondon if we are truly interested in him.

I would love to see Joselu moved on but I don’t think that will happen as he is Spanish and one of Rafa’s favoured players I think.

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

      He`s a main striker.

      • Nut

He plays both roles, he will give competition to Perez as well as the rest of the strikers.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

And how would you know that as his CV has him as
          a number 9

          • Nut

Because I have read up on him plus spoken to some friends in Tokyo and Germany

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

            Have you any in Monkseaton

          • Nut

My dad was a Geordie and that side of the family are all Newcastle through and through as am I!

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

            His stats are
            2011 free transfer
            2012 Loan
            2013 loan
            2014 loan
            2015 free transfer
            2016 fee £2.6m
2016-2018 Bundesliga Maximum goals 8 in a season
Not very good reading, Is it.

          • Nut

Look at his goals scored to the games he has started in and it makes very different reading!

20 in 66 becomes something akin to 20 in 40.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

He scored 8 goals last season, end of story

          • Nut

            J league Tokyo F.C.

61 goals in 51 appearances after signing pro contract in 2013 having finished economics degree.

Form attracted attention of Chelsea who put a bid in for him in 2015 before he moved to Mainz.

Muto later said he moved to Mainz because he didn’t feel ready for the premier league.

For Mainz he has netted 23 times in 69 appearances but if you take off the ones where he was a substitute and just include the ones he started in then that is closer to 20/40.

He has played 25 times for Japan and scored 14 times.

          • Soldier

            that league is rubbish

          • Nut

Really? Go play in it then!

          • Damon Horner

I’m quite intrigued by the signing and interested to see him play. Funny thing is he is being written off by some on here now for no other reason than to be a political weapon against Ashley but if he has a good season everybody will pretend that they have always loved him. Just ask “captain clot”.

          • Ram Kishore

Nut u r wrong about the goals he’s scored for Japan, 2 in 25.
Just pointing out ,u don’t want them pointing out u r creating stats..
            72 matches
            23 goals
            11 assists
IMO a decent to good return for someone who was injured in the second of first season.
Imo few here crave for big signing but pretend they want players who tries hard.
As a fan everyone does want a big signing, i agree on that. But that few needs to own up that.

Before seeing him play they just write him off just like what Damon horner says

          • Nut

8 last season when injuries hampered his season.

          • HarryHype59

So he is injury prone in addition to being not that good?

          • Nut

No, he plays in behind the striker, he can play a lead role but that’s not what he has been bought in for.

His return of goals and assists is actually very good. So you will be eating your words once you see we have bought in a relative bargain.

In 2015 Chelsea wanted him, they don’t tend to go after rubbish players now do they?

They didn’t get him because he didn’t want to move into the premier league at the time as he felt he would find it less of a learning curve moving to the bundisliga and playing there first before coming to take the premier league on.

          • HarryHype59

These “relative bargains” tend to be expensive flops. The main striker is Hoss, which sums up our problem.

          • HarryHype59

            Decidedly underwhelming I would say.

          • Ram Kishore

It was 2015 Moose when he moved to Bundesliga..
He has provided good number of assists too (10)along with 20 goals..
Total contribution amounts to 30. Not bad for a player to play the Second striker.role.

        • Ram Kishore

Similar to Shinji Yakazaki who plays behind vardy ..
I see both players share the mobility and quick movement

          • Nut

Yep that’s why he was bought in to be his replacement once Shinji Yakazaki was sold to Leicester.

Was seen as a better more intelligent bet and upgrade at the time.

      • Wezza

Thats another one of the Lee brothers trolling.

    • Lewis SG

Muto is a forward. We still need a creative playmaker just in case Jonjo is suspended or rested.

      • Nut

Muto is more than capable of playing in behind the striker!

  • Dillon Tovak

Mike Ashley doesn’t do gentlemen’s agreements so that theory is out the window.

  • glassjawsh-got-banned

I’ve always been a Mitro fanboy, but Fulham are severely over estimating his goal scoring prowess. In the PL, he’s a 8-12 goal a year center forward and that’s about it. Also it made me laugh seeing “he’s loves playing for us!/wearing the shirt!” thrown around. Mitro would probably be happy playing 5 a side on a gravelly road. He’d enjoy himself just about anywhere as long as he gets game time.

    • Peter C

Most players are as happy as sand boys, when they’re playing regularly.

Think he would be happy, just in a kick-about on the local green.
Obviously getting well paid for it, is the cherry on top of the cake for him.

  • robbersdog

I have a feeling that Schürrle and Mitrovic could play off each other very effectively, particularly with Tom Cairney and Ryan Sessegnon providing the ammunition. The four of ’em would be a good mix of pace, skill and brute force.

  • Mrkgw

M&M – Muto and Mitrovic up front for us next season as Rafa abandons his system of a solitary striker…..

    If only.

  • Vodkamagpie

Once mitrovic leaves, I can see Newcastle giving rafa a striker of his choice, money won’t be a problem, and will become our top wage earner. This will lead to rafa signing a new contract. We still need one more defender , central midfielder, then the squad will be shaping up nicely.

  • Phil K

If he was valued at less, then why didn’t Fulham buy then ? I don’t recall any “12 mill” valuation My guess is someone invented it and the rest believed it
