An ‘exclusive’ on Monday morning claims that Newcastle United are lining up Danny Welbeck as a summer signing.

The Arsenal striker is said to be unwanted by new boss Unai Emery and would be well behind the likes of Aubameyang and Lacazette if he stayed at the Emirates. Which is even before the recently appointed Arsenal manager thinks about bringing in striker targets of his own.

Danny Welbeck clearly does have ability and I think most Newcastle fans would see him as a step up on what NUFC currently have up front.

The ‘exclusive’ does come from Teamtalk who have a shocking record on Newcastle transfer stories but you would hope that somebody such as Danny Welbeck could be within Rafa’s reach.

Teamtalk report that Newcastle would supposedly be looking at a loan deal with a commitment to paying the striker’s £5m wages for the next year. They say Arsenal would prefer to sell but accept a loan might be the more realistic option, due to clubs worrying about his injury record.

Ironically, Danny Welbeck stayed pretty much injury free last season and featured in 43 games for Arsenal as a starter and as a sub.

He was also included in the England squad but only got 11 minutes as a sub in the 1-0 group defeat to Belgium.

Welbeck is one of those modern day players who partly through injury but mainly through being at clubs with very competitive squads, stands the risk of ending his career having played so little football in what should have been his most productive years.

The forward turns 28 in November and so far has made only 120 Premier League starts at Man Utd and Arsenal, as well as a loan spell at Sunderland.

Danny Welbeck came on as a sub in both Premier League matches against Newcastle last season but needs regular football AND to start scoring goals.

One worry if Newcastle are interested is that the England international still has yet to score double figures in a league season, having  scored nine in two different season when at Man Utd, with his five goals for Arsenal last season his next best total.

Teamtalk:

EXCLUSIVE: Newcastle United line up a exciting move for unwanted Arsenal striker

TEAMtalk understands Newcastle United are ready to offer Danny Welbeck a chance to kick-start his career on Tyneside after it emerged he was not part of Unai Emery’s long-term plans at Arsenal.

Newcastle are low on transfer funds and are ready to make a loan offer to Arsenal, which would see them take on Welbeck’s sizeable wage packet which is in excess of £100,000-a-week.

Everton have also been linked, but Newcastle hope that if Welbeck does move on-loan, they could be an appealing option to the player and also Arsenal.

It’s understood that Arsenal do not see Rafa Benitez’s men as rivals to them, unlike the Toffees, who could challenge them for a top-six finish this season.

Benitez also wants West Brom’s Salomon Rondon in attack, but he would love to bring in Welbeck too.

The pictures show him struggling to get past John carver…. Not sure this is the calibre of player that’s needed. Joking aside were never going to be paying his wages

  • Paul Patterson

Yet to score double figures in a season and has only started 120 games at 28 years old? At around £100k a week? Avoid, avoid, avoid! And another loan?
I’d rather keep and play Dwight Gayle.
    #Wheresthemoneygone

    • Peter C

So would I, Gayle can still come good, if he’s played in the right manner.

    • Ram Kishore

Being at Manchester united and Arsenal he must have started many more games in Fa cup, EFL cup , Champions league and Europa league..
Yeah the wages are a bit high for someone Arsenal wants out..
I have seen him play he isn’t a target man either, similar to Gayle but more stronger has a better finishing record

  • Graham Chapman

Yep, even Carver in his cheap SD winter coat has got him man marked. Nightmare.

  • Lord

Up next, Daniel Sturridge coming in on loan (starting off the season injured of course).

    • Toontaff

Andy Carroll and Charlie Austin are on their way.

      • Kneebotherm8

        SicknotesRUS………

  • Toontaff

No wonder he’s always injured trying to get stuck into the best coach in the Premier League.

  • mentalman

surely a striker scoring 9 goals is not something to worry about when you compare them with our current strikers

    • Leazes.

      5 goals
      Hip
      Groin
      Not in Squad
      5 full games
Arsenal need the space for a footballer.

  • BillytheFish

If he is fit, he is a top player who Rafa can get the best out of…
    IF! IF! he is fit…

    • Leazes.

If he were then Arsenal would keep him

      • cyclones

what do you expect ? Bidding for Aubameyang or Lacazette instead ? Welbeck will be a top player for a club our size with Ashley around

        • Leazes.

‘Hopefully Charnley is still working behind the scene’

You wrote that 3 years ago…. he wasn’t…. he relegated the club by holding onto money.

Purchasing lightweight squad fillers is a surefire recipe for disaster, the squad needs to be brought up to strength not just the first team regulars.

Welbeck, injury prone lightweight not a step forward at all, more like half a shandy than a singapore sling!

      • Peter C

Hit the nail on the head.

  • East Durham Mag

Does anyone else read these “exclusive” reports and role their eyes like me? You know as soon as you read the article the words loan and deal are going to featured in a sentence or two.

    • Leazes.

No…. not only do I block trolls….. I block whole click-bait sites like ‘Transfer Tavern’ ‘HITC’ and ‘Dr Ed’…. unfortunately Simon posts them as articles in order to rubbish them, so that’s great!

      • Ba ba.

That Dr edblokes full of utter bollix how do they get away with it ffs

        • Toontaff

Certainly more fantasists on that site!

          • TheFatController

I wrote an post today on the sales values of players signed in MacClaren’s year all being sold or worth more now, so why buy Joselu, saivet and Riviere for £5m when bigger signings make the profit …

Someone liked it, then it disappeared. So I had copied it so posted it again. It disappeared.

            Posted again and disappeared again.

Seems I am being censored for pointing out how the regime ignore simple evidence. Either that or the platform is kaput?

          • HarryHype59

You make a valid point on the £5m punts. The vast majority lose the club money. I recall us being linked with Maguire last year but Ashley “baulked” at the £17m fee. Maguire is now worth in excess of £50m.

        • Weyhhadaway

As the man said, click bait.

        • Leazes.

Its his site he can do what he likes, and he does.

  • Dillon Tovak

    He’d be a great signing.
    Shame it’s a loan.
    Shame it’s not true.

  • Ba ba.

I’d take him no problem definitely a step up on what we have but I’m afraid it’s probably all bollix

  • JohnnyNUFC

Where’s Bas Dost in all of this hahaha

    • Weyhhadaway

Drinking beer and having a laugh with Go-miss.

  • Wor Lass

I like Danny Welbeck and he has to be better than the Hoss but he isn`t the answer. He seems to miss more chances than he puts away (one of the criticisms of Mitro) and he`s a sicknote whatever the stats say about last season.

    • Leazes.

We’re looking for a team striker not a replacement for a squad player

      • TheNutJob

        i don`t think Fatty`s going to get 1, unless it`s a loan & clubs don`t loan out good strikers

      • Wor Lass

        Exactly.

    • Dillon Tovak

I think when fit he’s quality. But he’s rarely fit. I thought in the World Cup it was pointless to bring on Vardy when we were struggling for possession, Welbeck was the better option cos he’s an actual football player rather than simply a finisher.

      • Wor Lass

It`s goals we need, though, Dillon. I`d be all for signing Welbeck if we were also getting an out-and-out goal scorer. You never know, though, Arma might come good or Dwight could find his feet in the EPL. Oh, watch out for that cow!

  • Vodkamagpie

A good striker, obviously injury prone is always a problem . A difficult call, but if he can play 20+ games, you looking at 10+ goals. Sign him up !!!!

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    £100,000 a week say`s he isn`t coming here,
hang on though it`s Penfold, so he`ll offer to pay half Welbeck`s salary

    • Leazes.

he’s on the same as Shelvey £70k pw

  • Weyhhadaway

    I’d take him over Rondon.

  • Superdooperhooper

    5 million a year wages ? Hahaha . No chance . Next!

  • MadMag83

A decent player when fit. But another club might offer cold hard cash and that’s us out of the equation.

  • TheNutJob

latest on the ronnie, Newcastle cool interest in Welbeck, that didn`t last long
    😂😂😂

    • Leazes.

hahaha… click-bait story of the day

  • 1957

He’ll fit in well with our policy of sub 10 goal a season strikers, having said that he has to be an improvement on Dwight and the mighty Hoss

  • James

    Why not just buy him?

    • Paul Patterson

      I’d hazard a guess that £15m+ and £100k+ a week are two glaring reasons . .

  • HarryHype59

    I had to laugh at the part of that article which says;

“Newcastle are short on transfer funds”

No they are f**#ing well not. The owner simply refuses to spend.

    • Wezza

Yeah it is just ridiculous this PR propaganda and the media buys it. We know the score.

  • robbersdog

Another ‘loan’ signing? I’d be happy if Welbeck came to SJP, but wouldn’t it be nice if we could BUY a decent player every once in a while? I’ve almost forgotten what it feels like.

Poor Rafa – he’s wandering around Harrods in a jealous daze, because he knows that all he can afford is a maxi-pack of Slazenger socks from Sports Direct.

  • Blackburn1066

The only thing I can see is Raffa keeping us up in the prem then going to another club where he will get the backing. Then the little fat Tw-t with the TAT! shops will bring another manager in to take us down and I bet there is still 52.000 in the ground and fatty will give the manager who takes us down a 100 mil to get us up.
You can tell by my comment that I have had enough of it all and I did not renew my ST,
