What next at Newcastle United?

An interesting question for you and no idea how the voting will go.

However, it is obvious what the overwhelming result would be, if the question was what you HOPE will happen, rather than what you THINK will occur.

Away from the actual on the pitch action next season, we have our three favourites topics: Rafa Benitez, Mike Ashley, and the transfer market.

This is what the question revolves around.

Newcastle’s transfer record has stood for 13 years now, the £16m for Michael Owen in 2005 still the biggest paid out so far.

It is now over 11 years since Mike Ashley bought Newcastle United in 2007.

Rafa Benitez has been at St James Park for 27 months, arriving in March 2016.

So the question is, which of these three things will change first at Newcastle United?

(For the more observant among you, we asked this same question back in 2017, and so we will be comparing and contrasting the results when the June 2018 votes are in)

We nearly broke it last summer on Murphy. If we don’t break it this summer wa deed!

    • Sickandtired

Only £2.5 million short (11 years later). That would buy half a Dubravka. Ashley knows how to slice a pie.

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

It’s a bit of a daft question really when you do a process of elimination :

Ashley To Sell Newcastle United : Highly unlikely given the price he wants for it which feeds into the fact he has no intentions of selling by those very actions !
He’s become an even richer man in his time as owner of Newcastle United, (See His Net Worth Before & After) to attest to the fact.

The Worldwide advertising The Premier League has afforded him has made his company global so why would he give that up ?

Newcastle To Break Their Transfer Record : One the one hand it wouldn’t take much to complete that feat given the history.
On the other hand though, We are talking about the tightest Billionaire in all of Christendom so what are the chances ?

Rafa To Leave Newcastle : Well that one is the most plausible out of the three options available.
Apparently talks over a new contract have stalled with Rafa waiting to see what the transfer activity will be over the summer.

Personally, I don’t think he will leave us in the lurch and see out his contract but after that who knows.

It will probably be a case of him running down his contract if they rip him off again this summer with a prelude to walking next summer after the end of the season !

It’s like the first question on ‘who wants to be a millionaire’, the dummy question…..

    Shakespeare’s famous play is….
    A. Romeo and Wise
    B. Romeo and Delilah
    C. Romeo and Juliet
    D. Romeo and Gabbana

We won’t break transfer record , Rafa leaves , Ashley won’t sell , takes us into championship again , Back to normal with pardew back and Graham carr scouting again

I think we will definitively break the outgoing transfer record.
Rafa will stay until the end of his contract.
There is more chance of finding a live stream for a Macum game next season than there is of Fatman selling.

    • Dillon Tovak

      😂 👏

    • Virsino

“live stream for a Macum game” – class :)

  • Dillon Tovak

I will be truly shocked if we spend £17m on someone, but if we do we ain’t getting any more players.
Isn’t it great supporting this joke? 🎉

    • Sickandtired

Less shocked if Lascelles funds it though…

  • Sickandtired

Rafa leaves, season end, after neither of the other two options happening.

  • Alreet

We might break the outbound record but the inbound one will be broken on a cold in hell.

Rafa wont leave this season. Hes out to prove a point.

If ash sells it will be to someone very stupid to pay 400 mill or itll be if he ever loses interest in the place.

    • Geordiegiants

      He already has years ago.

Toby over to the chron it`s 50/50

  • mactoon

We won’t break the transfer record and ashley won’t sell when he’s reportedly asking for £400 million. I suspect if negotiations don’t progress the way rafa wants them to he will see this year out and leave to find a club that gives what he wants

  • nufcslf

Not much of a pole with such an obvious answer. Well done the fat man, got us right where you want us….now f**k off…..

  • Come&TakeIt1836

Double down… We will break the transfer record either twice outright this summer or once via a straight purchase and a second time via a loan that has a club option to purchase the player that also will also break the current record once triggered.

Rafa does not leave nor does MA sell this summer.

  • JonMag

Even if we break the transfer record it doesn`t mean that Rafa will stay as a run of the mill player cost`s £16m in the current market, Rafa wants control of transfers & a budget
the Fat [email protected]@ker will give him neither. this time next year he`ll be gone, or maybe sooner.

    • ghostrider

Then you simply don’t pay 16 million for a run of the mill player.
Can’t people see how silly this has all got when fans can actually cite 10/15/20 million as being peanuts for a football player.

95% of football players are run of the mill. Very few stand out as overly exceptional to watch.

How about we scout players that are more in line with being worth the money rather than just trying to break some kind of transfer record, as if it’s some kind of league money race of who can spend the most on whatever player.

If it turns out we beat a transfer record then so be it but I just hope it’s for a player that’s exceptional and not just run of the mill.
The lower leagues are full of those players for way less than a million…some of who have more guts and talent than over priced foreign players.

The biggest joke is English players being priced right out of the market.

      • JonMag

that`s one of Rafa`s quotes not mine

  • Paul Patterson

I think we will break the transfer record, however, it will be offset with an even bigger sale going outwards. Rafa will go at the end of the season if there isn’t a club takeover . .

  • Peter C

Recently had this strange dream, or was it a nightmare

    (i) Maybe we will break the transfer record, After selling someone, or others first of
    (ii) Benitez leaves June 2019
(iii) Ashley still still owner, after no £400 Million takeover
(iv) Championship football within two years
    (v) Ashley sells up for knockdown price, shortly after relegation for the 3rd time
(vi) Much wailing and rejoicing on Tyneside, in equal measure
(vii) Normal service resumes for the long suffering fans of St James Park
