The question we were asking on Tuesday was: ‘How many Newcastle signings will there be before the first pre-season friendly in 3 weeks time?’

In only 20 days time now, Newcastle United take on St Patrick’s Athletic.

This is the first of five friendlies and coincides with yet another annual pre-season training camp over in Ireland.

No new faces have been added to the NUFC squad so far, with only the Martin Dubravka confirmation that his loan deal had now become a permanent move.

Fair to say that Newcastle fans had expected some movement by now in the summer transfer window, the transfer window has now been open exactly six weeks – with another six weeks to go.

So we wondered, how many new players did fans think Newcastle will sign by the time that St Patrick’s Athletic match comes around?

After that first friendly there will be only three weeks until the window shuts and then add on a couple of days and the Premier League season kicks off.

There must be signings in these next three weeks, surely?

The pre-season training camp is usually seen as essential for as many new signings to be part of as possible, to get them properly integrated into the group, so Rafa will be doing everything he can to get the right players in by then.

Can he succeed though and what backing, if any, will he get from above?

So how many Newcastle signings did fans think will be made by 17 July? The results:

63% Zero

22% One

9% Two

4% Three

1% Four

1% Five or more

Quite staggering really, almost two thirds (63%) of fans think there will be no Newcastle signings in these (now) next 20 days.

Then when it comes to zero or one new signing, that figure rises to a massive 85%.

Only 15% of the fans who voted think Newcastle will sign two or more players in these next crucial 20 days.

Desperate times, at least when it comes to expectation of the club moving forward and showing any ambition under Mike Ashley.

One token signing and three loans on deadline day.

    • nufcslf

      Closer to the truth.

  • TheFatController

I see some voted for 5. They should know, in fairness, having the inside line, being in Ashley’s family as they are.

      It`ll be the Mugpie

    • Leazes.

That was me…. I think they will sign a skipload of junior and squad players because they chucked out 22.

The consequences of not signing even a quarter of the number needed to fulfill the requirements of putting out a team in the reserve and junior leagues are too horrible to contemplate.

    • Monkseaton Magpies

I voted for six but four in the next three weeks two later.

      • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

I voted four given the deadline date and we have already got two in.

        • T Dog

How have we got two in you nutbar?

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Merino’s transfer is officially in this summer window after a season long loan, as is Dubravka’s.

          • T Dog

Pompous… Even you must know that is ridiculous. I know you like to be deliberately provocative, but to say we have signed two players this summer is spin of the highest order. Information Minister-type stuff. Almost impressive.

Merino was a Summer 2017 signing and Dubravka January 2018. Where the fee nominally lands in the accounts is arbitrary. They are not additions to the squad, as they were already in it.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

According to the Mag writers, you are wrong. It’s been repeatedly said our net spend last season was the amount without Merino included. Indeed, the permanent transfer was concluded in this window according to official records.

I don’t care what you consider to be arbitrary, you are wrong.

          • T Dog

I think the term is apt considering your argument. I don’t care about the mag writers and I don’t care about net spend. To say we’ve signed two players this summer is preposterous.

It’s a lame attempt at inciting a response, from someone who probably feels a pathological need to be subversive. As I write this I acknowledge the irony that I’ve fallen for it. So I guess congratulations are in order.

I’m not really outraged by the fact we haven’t signed anyone yet. There has generally not been a lot of activity so far given the shape of this summer with the World Cup. I am, however, concerned that the evidence based on previous experience is that we will fall very short of getting the players we need. I think the majority view that we will sign no more players before the first friendly is probably accurate.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Considering the media we’re posting on, the Mag can’t have it both ways, if they run with the claim we ‘only’ spent €25m last summer, they have to include the €7m for Merino this time.

Like you I’m not worried about transfer activity thus far nor this new obsession of beating our transfer record. I’d far rather have 3 bargain of the decade buys that are effective than a headline act at mega expense to placate the the bedsheet wavers.

I’d be concerned if we don’t get a striker and a winger although I’m quite hopeful oglf Murphy

Moving forward & ambition should never be mentioned in the same sentence as the Pig
    🐖

  • Monkseaton Magpies

Does that mean Kennedy has signed as well if Dubravaka does not count as a signing. Thought he was on loan last season and we signed him recently. Must have been mistaken as sixty three per cent on here think we have no signings.

    • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

I think we know, the majority of folk on here are a bit thick.

  • Wezza

Conclusion. The majority can see through the lies and dirty tactics of this rotten regime.

  • Toon

How is this staggering? I can give you the results of any click bait poxy poll on this site before the results are counted, it will always the most negative, obvious. Are you thick Porter?
