The most low key new Newcastle United home shirt launch ever?
The new 2018/19 Newcastle United home shirt was launched on Friday.
It was all very bizarre though and no doubt many NUFC fans may not even realise that it has happened.
Whilst other clubs put on a bit of a show and throw everything at publicity and driving sales, Newcastle United have decided to go with what appears to be almost subliminal advertising.
As in, you have to search out the news basically. It literally couldn’t have been more low key (Ki?).
The latest Newcastle United home shirt was ‘launched’ as a small side story to the free transfer signing of Ki Sung-Yeung.
The only mention I have seen on the official NUFC website, relating to the new strip is this:
‘Ki Sung-yueng became Newcastle United’s second signing of the summer on Friday.
The midfielder flew into Tyneside after captaining Korea Republic at the FIFA World Cup in Russia and club photographer Serena Taylor was there for nufc.co.uk to capture his arrival, medical and the signing of his contract.
Ki also became the first Magpies player to wear the club’s new PUMA home shirt, which will be on sale at nufcdirect.com on 26th July.’
Not sure whether this is anything to do with images of the new Newcastle United home shirt having been leaked/circulated for some time.
Only last weekend a new image appeared (see below), which has proved to be right on the money.
Whilst obviously the leaked images diminish the impact of when the new shirt/kit is eventually made public, it is very strange that Newcastle United aren’t making more of it.
The Mag – Saturday 23 June 2018:
An exclusive claims that details of the 2018/19 Newcastle United home shirt have been leaked.
Last season saw the club/Puma use a marketing gimmick of creating a new one-off badge for 2017/18, to ‘celebrate’ 125 years in the club’s history
The exclusive from Footy Headlines carries the image below of what is said to be the new shirt and it sees a return to what looks to be the usual badge of previous seasons.
The report adds that they understand this 2018/19 Newcastle United home shirt will be launched shortly.
Last week, Newcastle United confirmed that they were expecting the three new 2018/19 strips to be launched in early July.
In the past, the team has often worn the following season’s new strip on the last day of the season, especially if playing the final game of the season at St James Park – but the 3-0 win over Chelsea saw the 2017/18 Newcastle United home shirt still used.
This is how the new strip will allegedly look:
If this exclusive is on the money, it looks a smart design. Adult sizes will of course have sponsor FUN88 added but children’s shirts will be free of it, due to the rules on promoting gambling to minors.
