Rafa Benitez has arrived back at St James Park on Tuesday afternoon.

The Newcastle manager has kept a low profile since the Premier League season came to an end over six weeks ago.

The United boss was photographed this lunchtime heading into St James Park.

Newcastle United’s first team squad are back at the training ground on Monday (2 July) to begin preparations for the new season.

The Chronicle report that Rafa Benitez is believed to be meeting ‘club chiefs’ this afternoon for a ‘general meeting about the summer so far.’

The ‘summer so far’ has been a major disappointment for Newcastle fans so far and no doubt Rafa himself as well.

Martin Dubravka has been converted from a loan signing into a permanent deal with that deal having to be done by the end of May, if Newcastle were to land him for the pre-agreed £4m loan deal trigger price.

However, there has not been a single bid made for any other potential signing.

This is despite Rafa Benitez having given the club a list of targets to be pursued ahead of pre-season.

The first friendly of the season is three weeks today, against St Patrick’s Athletic and the squad departs for the training camp in Ireland in only a couple of weeks time, so time is of the essence.

Rafa’s reappearance today is hopefully a sign of some action in the near future.

A worrying sign has been his total silence throughout the summer, very reminiscent to a year ago when the manager then waited until he was away on he pre-season tournament camp, before launching an attack on the transfer policy and saying that he hoped transfer promises would be kept
