Premier League rivals confirm appointment of former Newcastle United coach
Former Newcastle coach Ian Cathro is back in work.
After he was sacked at Hearts last year it was rumoured he was going to be picked up straight away by Wolves.
Their manager ‘Nuno’ had previously worked with the one-time NUFC coach at both Valencia and Rio Ave.
Nothing happened though and whilst Wolves went up as champions, nothing was heard of Ian Cathro.
However, Wolves have now confirmed that ahead of their return to the Premier League, they have appointed Cathro as their new first team coach.
Now 31, Ian Cathro came into Newcastle after Steve McClaren was appointed and when the inevitable sacking (for McClaren) happened in March 2016, new boss Rafa Benitez got rid of all of McClaren’s senior backroom staff, apart from Cathro.
On getting the job Ian Cathro said:
“I am very excited about joining Wolves and looking forward to working with a coach and staff I know, trust and believe in.
“All of us share the same footballing philosophy and that is such an important factor for a successful coaching team.
“Wolves is a fantastic club with a rich history and lots of potential, and I can’t wait to get started.”
