Official Premier League site tips Newcastle star with third best stats in his position last season
Nice to see a Newcastle player getting wider recognition, step forward Martin Dubravka.
The man of the moment, Newcastle fans were very relieved to see the Slovakian international agreeing a permanent deal last week, as he committed to NUFC.
In the aftermath of the transfer, the official Premier League site have ran a special feature on the 29 year old goalkeeper.
Running through the stats, they have revealed that only two Premier League goalkeepers performed better than Martin Dubravka in 2017/18.
The official Premier League site has a ranking system for their fantasy football site and Dubravka averaged 4.4 fantasy football points per game, with only Karius of Liverpool and De Gea of Man Utd bettering that, both averaging 4.6 points.
The PL site says that ‘Dubravka has the potential to claim a place as the go-to goalkeeper in Fantasy’ and one thing for sure, it will be a massive starting point for Newcastle if the Slovakian keeper can continue his stand out form next season.
Official Premier League site:
He made an immediate impact having arrived in the January transfer window.
Dubravka’s debut was at home to Manchester United in Gameweek 27, a 1-0 win.
It was one of four clean sheets he produced in only 12 appearances.
Dubravka conceded only 11 goals during that spell, averaging 0.9 goals against per match.
By comparison, Newcastle averaged 1.4 goals conceded per match before his arrival.
Rivalling De Gea
Dubravka scored 53 FPL points in total.
This was aided by six save points and a penalty stop against Watford in Gameweek 37.
His average of 4.4 points per match (ppm) bettered the 3.6 and 3.3ppm of team-mates and fellow goalkeepers Rob Elliot and Karl Darlow.
Indeed, David De Gea and Loris Karius were the only regular starting goalkeepers to better Dubravka for points per match.
The Manchester United and Liverpool players each averaged 4.6ppm.
Goalkeepers who offer a combination of save points and clean sheets are vital to the plans of Fantasy managers.
The top six players across all positions for points-per-million value were goalkeepers, highlighting the importance of not overlooking the No 1 in your squad.
Priced at £4.5m, Dubravka’s ownership peaked at just over 57,000 in Gameweek 37.
But the Slovak can become a far more popular figure over the 2018/19 campaign.
Should he remain as a cut-price option, Dubravka has the potential to claim a place as the go-to goalkeeper in Fantasy.
