Newcastle United have received a bid of £10m for Dwight Gayle, according to reports on Saturday.
Stoke City have been linked with the forward since relegation and are said to want him to spearhead their promotion challenge.
The Mail say that the bid has gone in but that it is expected that this is only the first stage of a bidding process with Newcastle expecting more.
They paid that £10m figure to Crystal Palace two years ago and with both transfer inflation and the striker’s form since, he is surely worth significantly more than that.
Dwight Gayle may have only got six goals last season in the Premier League but 23 in the Championship despite only 26 starts, is brilliant at that level.
Like all transfer stories you treat with caution and unless he is going to be allowed to make a decent number of signings, you can’t imagine Rafa Benitez being happy to sell his only decent out and out striker/goalscorer.
The Mail say that Stoke boss Gary Rowett wants to have Dwight Gayle and Benik Afobe as his striker pairing,
Stoke will receive over £41m in parachute payments this coming season and look set to have a good go at getting back first time.
Gayle is only 27 and when you consider Middlesbrough paid £15m for Britt Assombalonga a year ago, the Newcastle striker must be worth at least the same.
