Newcastle United have been ‘trying’ to sign Mouctar Diakhaby in recent days.

This transfer story kind of sums up NUFC’s summer so far.

Around 10 days ago, the Chronicle revealed that not only had Newcastle United now signed any new players, but that Mike Ashley hadn’t even allowed a single bid to go in for any target.

News on Wednesday morning appears to confirm that this is still the position Newcastle/Ashley are taking.

Mouctar Diakhaby is an exciting young 21 year old defender who has made 55 first team appearances for Lyon these past two seasons.

France Football report that three clubs were chasing the player and all were in talks to sign him.

Everton bid a figure in excess of £13m at the start of the week but are said to have missed out.

Valencia are thought to have actually offered slightly less (£13m) than Everton did but the player has chosen the Spanish club over the scousers, with official confirmation expected shortly.

As for Newcastle United, they had talks but never got around to making an actual bid for Mouctar Diakhaby.

Mouctar Diakhaby has agreed a five year contract and will be playing in La Liga next season.

This latest transfer tale comes as little surprise.

It actually makes me think of what happens when I take our dog out each morning.

We meet up with a couple of other dogs and their owners and all three love chasing a ball.

One of the three usually shows the most pace and desire, so eight or nine times out of ten is first to the ball and brings it back.

Our dog is not usually far behind but only is successful one or two times, every ten occasions the ball is thrown.

As for the third dog, it loves just running alongside the other two and to be part of the chase, even though it never shows any real desire to get to the ball first.

Newcastle United, the dog that never wins the race….

He’s not a midfielder or goalkeeper?!

  • TheFatController

We do criticise press for churning out 100s of names we are linked with.

But are we being a little hasty and too harsh.

Many of the press, particularly foreign press, must have to add other clubs to a list of ‘also interested are…’ at the end of each piece they write.

Well, particularly overseas hacks, they must think ‘maybe Newcastle might come in? I mean, with that TV money, the huge full stadium and big player sales, they can’t be signing no one.’

Little do they know. We’re broke.

    • SuperDesHamilton

We aren’t broke we’ve just been asset stripped & well and truly been Ashley’d

      • TheFatController

        Semantics.

  • SuperDesHamilton

Everything about the regime in charge of our club is absolutely pathetic

  • SH.ER

Disappointed, just painful when you read these sexy headlines about West Ham increasing the bid for Felipe Anderson to £35m and our club is all over the place
I could cry right now …. I know we are not a London club but why we don’t grow as a club? we have all the potential, the only club in the city, when will we learn?

    • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Felipe Anderson who wants to move to London, hence the interest from Arsenal, Tottenham and West Ham. Porter is blaming Ashley for Newcastle not being in Spain, you are blaming him for Newcastle not being a borough of London.

      • SH.ER

I was pointing to how West Ham have grown since their second promotion bidding those fees while we are standing still

        • TheFatController

He’ll use mental gymnastics of denial when confronted with that fact, don’t worry..

And we’ll just chuckle and admire the tenacity of the apologist. Marvelous.

        • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

We finished above them and were possibly the worst side I saw us play (live at least) last season.

          • TheFatController

Proof that we shouldn’t spend as much money as them, I think we call all agree yes.

      • jack

No they’re blaming him for lack of ambition

      • TheFatController

So we haven’t signed any players of note for 4 windows because they all want to be in Spain or London ?

Is Manchester west or south London sorry?

I thought it was because our finances are a mess after two relegations. Seems I have it wrong.

        • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

No, Felipe Anderson expressly said London. He’s not going to manchester.

          • TheFatController

ah, I see what you did there. You felt intimidated by me making you look stupid and bent it back to make me look stupid.

I do feel stupid now yes. You must be having a little ego boost?

Carry on little powerless Ashley apologist.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

It’s not me making you look stupid.

In fairness, you have a long way to go to match some others.

      • Billmag

Oh Bobbi Bobbi please stop defending the indefensible you are actually not doing yourself any favours.

        • TheFatController

He’s making me chuckle, in fairness to him

    • Kneebotherm8

We only sell players for £35 million………..we don’t buy them for £35 million…

  • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Is Graham Porter actually blaming Mike Ashley for Newcastle not being in Spain?

    • 1957

No for not bidding for a player who clearly wants to play in Spain rather than the ‘greatest league in the world’ I think.

Maybe we didn’t bid because we knew that he wanted to play in La liga

      • TheFatController

Oh, I doubt any of our leaders give the needs and wants of their fellow human beings any thought at all…least of all players and their agents.

Check out the Commons panel accusations of Ashley’s business practices as proof.

He was so ashamed that what he thought would never be made public actually was, he lied and said he had nothing to do with the business practices in his own company.

        Of course you don’t, Mike.

        • 1957

Not sure how the business practices of Mike are relevant to us not bidding for a 21 year old playing in France who has had a preference and signed for a Spanish club.

Maybe Benitez carried out some of his famous background work and discovered the boy wouldn’t come, maybe we learned our lesson with Thauvin who was coerced into signing for us by his club… or perhaps we were never interested and it was fake news from the agent/Lyon to up the price.

          • TheFatController

He said they probably knew he had a preference personally for Spain. I just said it’s unlikely they think too hard, and you went all angry and had to reply. Which makes me chuckle. At you.

You take this site too seriously maybe?

          • 1957

Not defending Ashley, a company I once worked for spent 11 months in a legal battle to recover consultancy fees SD wouldn’t pay so I’m probably more aware of his MO than most on here.

It’s a bit rich from someone who feels its their responsibility to remind people what Ashley is like outside of NUFC to say anyone is up themselves or taking the site too seriously…pot calling the kettle grimy a##e springs to mind

      • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

I think we did bid, he opted for Valancia who bid less money for him than the premier league clubs.

        • KRS1

What leads you to believe we bid?

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

We registered an interest, usually that leads to an invite to offer if the selling club want to proceed with an amicable sale. Now, we may have just been weighing up options or told he wants to stay in Spain, who knows.
