Newcastle United ‘attempt’ to sign Mouctar Diakhaby sums up summer transfer window

Newcastle United have been ‘trying’ to sign Mouctar Diakhaby in recent days.

This transfer story kind of sums up NUFC’s summer so far.

Around 10 days ago, the Chronicle revealed that not only had Newcastle United now signed any new players, but that Mike Ashley hadn’t even allowed a single bid to go in for any target.

News on Wednesday morning appears to confirm that this is still the position Newcastle/Ashley are taking.

Mouctar Diakhaby is an exciting young 21 year old defender who has made 55 first team appearances for Lyon these past two seasons.

France Football report that three clubs were chasing the player and all were in talks to sign him.

Everton bid a figure in excess of £13m at the start of the week but are said to have missed out.

Valencia are thought to have actually offered slightly less (£13m) than Everton did but the player has chosen the Spanish club over the scousers, with official confirmation expected shortly.

As for Newcastle United, they had talks but never got around to making an actual bid for Mouctar Diakhaby.

Mouctar Diakhaby has agreed a five year contract and will be playing in La Liga next season.

This latest transfer tale comes as little surprise.

It actually makes me think of what happens when I take our dog out each morning.

We meet up with a couple of other dogs and their owners and all three love chasing a ball.

One of the three usually shows the most pace and desire, so eight or nine times out of ten is first to the ball and brings it back.

Our dog is not usually far behind but only is successful one or two times, every ten occasions the ball is thrown.

As for the third dog, it loves just running alongside the other two and to be part of the chase, even though it never shows any real desire to get to the ball first.

Newcastle United, the dog that never wins the race….
