Midfielder to be officially confirmed as second Newcastle United signing – Completes medical
Newcastle United are set to announce the signing of Ki Sung-yueng.
He will be the second signing of the season after Martin Dubravka made his move permanent in May.
The midfielder has completed his medical and the Chronicle have revealed he is expected to be officially confirmed shortly.
Ki Sung-yueng left Swansea in May and is available on a free transfer.
The 29 year old made 25 appearances last season as Swansea were relegated, scoring two goals.
He has made over 160 appearances in the Premier League at Swansea and on loan at Sunderland, so obviously no mug.
However, this isn’t exactly a signing to raise hopes of better times ahead for Newcastle United.
Surely more of a squad signing with the likes of Diame and Shelvey doing well in centre midfield.
With Mikel Merino set to leave for around £10.5m this could well be centre midfield cover on the cheap to replace the Spaniard.
Ki Sung-yueng was part of the South Korean squad out in Russia this month for the World Cup.
Knocked out of the competition before the knockout stages, the midfielder started the two defeats against Sweden and Mexico.
In terms of creativity/goalscoring, his PL record reads:
2017/18 – Two goals and two assists
2016/17 – Zero goals and one assist
2015/16 – Two goals and one assist
2014/15 – Eight goals and one assist
2013/14 – Three goals and one assist
2012/13 – No goals and one assist
