Rumours of Newcastle signings had been pretty thin on the ground.

Despite the Premier League transfer window having been open for two weeks, the newspapers and other media had barely bothered to even make up a link between NUFC and a player they were supposedly interested in.

Much of this probably down to the fact that the stand-off between Rafa Benitez was continuing, the manager not interested in signing a contract extension unless things change at the club.

So the reasoning being, until Rafa’s future was sorted, what’s the point in running Newcastle transfer speculation.

Still no clarity om the manager’s position but the Martin Dubravka permanent deal releasing the logjam on the imagination of the media.

Within 48 hours I had seen the following links to 10 different potential Newcastle signings.

This often happens, once Newcastle actually make a signing, it encourages the newspapers/media to go into overdrive in producing links to other players.

The newspapers knowing full well that once one signing happens, fans are more prepared to believe a rumour is more likely to be not instantly laughed at.

The silly season is once again with us, these are the 10 players I saw Newcastle were linked with within 48 hours of Dubravka being confirmed, no doubt you can add a few more…:

Newcastle set to move for former Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet, with a fee of £10m speculated.

Newcastle to return for Lucas Perez, the striker Rafa Benitez was allegedly after last summer. Perez turns 30 in September and scored eight goals on loan at Deportivo last season.

The old transfer story recycled that NUFC are interested in signing centre-back Kasim from Young Boys, allegedly have ‘opened talks’.

Whilst some media reports say Newcastle have lost interest in Nicolai Jorgensen, others are now bringing back this link as ‘news’.

Kenedy supposed to be a more likely signing because he ‘liked’ a Newcastle United tweet on Twitter.

Newcastle linked with Sassuolo defender Gian Marco Ferrari, who has an £11.5m buyout clause in his contract.

West Brom’s Salomon Rondon a target and he is reported to have a £16m buyout clause in his contract.

Angers striker Karl Toko-Ekambi a ‘£20m target’ for Newcastle United.

Newcastle set to rival West Ham for Argentinian internation Javier Pastore, claimed to be available for £17.5m from PSG.

Jack Grealish claimed to be a target for Newcastle after Villa failed to get promotion.

    • Clarko

Have you seen Toto-Ekambi play? Have you seen Ferrari play? Jørgensen? Kasim Nuhu? How many times have you seen the others play?

      • Wor Lass

        What an arrogant question.

        • Billmag

          Par for the course mate.

        • Clarko

No, it’s just a question dummy.

      • TheNutJob

I`ve seen 2 out of the 3 of them play & i would`nt give you £10m for Jorgensen never mind £20m

        • Clarko

Well the article lists 10 names, I specifically named 4 of those 10 players so I don’t know how to take your ‘I’ve seen 2 out of the 3 of them play’ comment… (And that’s without mentioning that I wasn’t asking you)

How many times have you watched those 2 players?

      • Geordiegiants

Go on Clarko go and get them son 😴

        • TheNutJob

      • Paul Patterson

Alright, calm down. No I haven’t, so that’s why I’d pick Kenedy and Grealish. Jeez . .

        • Clarko

Calm down? What did I say that gave the impression that I wasn’t calm? All I did was ask which players you had seen play, this seems like a you issue, not a me issue, maybe you should practice what you preach.

I’d ask how many times you have seen Grealish play but I’d guess that you would just tell me to ‘calm down’ again…

    • Wor Lass

      And Rondon.

      • TheNutJob

& other associated lies from The Comical: “YOU couldn’t make it up…. but WE can!!”

  • TheNutJob

put your feet up & enjoy the World Cup as nowt will happen until that`s finished as far as buys are concerned.

  • Kazie

We should buy Ronaldo Vieira to play alongside Shelvey and sell Diame… I can’t see Diame playing well again. Buy Jack Grealish in the CAM position and Tammy Abraham up front… Sign Kenedy permanently and as for a left back it’s tough..not so sure who… Any thoughts????

    • Clarko

I don’t think there would be any money left in the transfer budget for a left back after spending £100m on Vieira, Grealish, Abraham and Kenedy.

    • Paul Patterson

In principal that sounds good. Sadly, I think Villa have slapped a £40m fee on Grealish.

  • robbersdog

Villa apparently want £40m for Grealish; so yeah, we’ll definitely be signing him.

  • Vodkamagpie

Anyone seen pione sisto, emmanuel boateng, keagan dolly, jarrow bowen.
