Rumours of Newcastle signings had been pretty thin on the ground.
Despite the Premier League transfer window having been open for two weeks, the newspapers and other media had barely bothered to even make up a link between NUFC and a player they were supposedly interested in.
Much of this probably down to the fact that the stand-off between Rafa Benitez was continuing, the manager not interested in signing a contract extension unless things change at the club.
So the reasoning being, until Rafa’s future was sorted, what’s the point in running Newcastle transfer speculation.
Still no clarity om the manager’s position but the Martin Dubravka permanent deal releasing the logjam on the imagination of the media.
Within 48 hours I had seen the following links to 10 different potential Newcastle signings.
This often happens, once Newcastle actually make a signing, it encourages the newspapers/media to go into overdrive in producing links to other players.
The newspapers knowing full well that once one signing happens, fans are more prepared to believe a rumour is more likely to be not instantly laughed at.
The silly season is once again with us, these are the 10 players I saw Newcastle were linked with within 48 hours of Dubravka being confirmed, no doubt you can add a few more…:
Newcastle set to move for former Sunderland keeper Simon Mignolet, with a fee of £10m speculated.

Whilst some media reports say Newcastle have lost interest in Nicolai Jorgensen, others are now bringing back this link as ‘news’.
Kenedy supposed to be a more likely signing because he ‘liked’ a Newcastle United tweet on Twitter.

West Brom’s Salomon Rondon a target and he is reported to have a £16m buyout clause in his contract.
