England expects – Gareth Southgate names starting 11
It is all about England tonight.
No conflict in wanting both Newcastle and England to do well!
They finally get their World Cup campaign underway when they take on Tunisia in Volgograd, with a 7pm kick-off.
Belgium scored three second-half goals to eventually overcome Panama in the group game earlier today.
A win for England over Tunisia would surely all but put them through, as it would then leave them only having to beat Panama to make absolutely sure of going through (apart from a freakish set of results).
Tunisia are no mugs though and are ranked 21st in the world, compared to England in joint 12th with Denmark.
Tunisia came through in their qualifying group only a point ahead of Chancel Mbemba and DR Congo, Libya and Guinea making up that group.
Gareth Southgate has named his team and England line up:
Pickford
Walker
Stones
Maguire
Henderson
Trippier
Lingard
Alli
Young
Kane
Sterling
Subs:
Rose, Dier, Vardy, Butland, Welbeck, Cahill, Jones, Delph, Rashford, Loftus-Cheek, Alexander-Arnold, Pope
Gareth Southgate:
“We have been working on a system of play we think suits the players we have available and the style of play we want to implement.
“Everyone at home wants England to win but they want to see them play well and enjoy their football and that’s what I want as a coach.”
Mark Lawrenson prediction:
“This is a banana skin for England but I don’t foresee any slip-ups for Gareth Southgate’s side.
“Prediction: England 2 Tunisia 0.”
