Some interesting comments from Watford fans ahead of Saturday.

The home supporters seemingly split between those who think it could be an easy win over Newcastle and those who are expecting so little from their own team.

On the one hand, Watford have only picked up two points from their last possible 21 and haven’t scored a single away goal since Javi Gracia took over as manager for months ago n January.

It must seem an awful long time ago for Watford fans since they came to St James Park in November and easily won 3-0.

On the other hand, many Watford fans seem to see Newcastle as a team ‘already on the beach’ after successive defeats, plus it is over eight years ago since NUFC beat the Hornets in any competition.

Almost certainly a match that will need an early goal to open things up and hopefully provide some entertainment, hopefully the glass half full Watford fans will be proved right.

Watford fans comment via their WFC Forum:

‘If we are losing at half time, all Javi Gracia has to do is a Fergie and say to the team “lads, it’s only Newcastle”.

Watford always beat Newcastle, so I’m thankful this important game is against our patsy side.

‘Straight forward win, Premier league status reassured, happy days.

Watford 3 Patsys 0.’

‘Final home game of the season against a team virtually on the beach.

A win mathematically secures PL football next season, everyone at ease.

Hopefully we get a Chalobah cameo and starti with Richarlison and Gray up top.’

‘I want to know where Newcastle is, whether they’ve won anything in the last 60 years or so, whether there’s a river there, the locals’ dress code for football matches and whether they speak English.’

‘Gomes recall.

Must win game according to many glass half empty hornets.

Would be nice to end with a win.

Garcia to fire up the team for a last hoorah at the Vic worth 3 places in the League and over £3m.

2-1.’

‘We will play well, look dangerous, miss three easy chances including a one-on-one and an open goal, lose momentum, and then one of our players will inexplicably punch the ball away/fall over/let it roll under his foot/the keeper will drop a cross in the 50th minute (delete as appropriate) for you to score the easiest goal of your season.

We will then give up and Newcastle will win 3-0.

We have a fantastic midfield, decent CBs, terrible full backs, error-prone goalkeepers, and strikers who quite literally never, ever, ever score. And the mental strength of a sad, hungry dog.’

‘Good feeling about this one. Comfortable win here, acquit ourselves up at Old Trafford, England get to the quarter finals in Russia and we can all look forward to next season with renewed quiet confidence.

0-2 Geordies then.’

‘Watford to sign off a disappointing home campaign with a win. Deulofeu to star.

There have been some promising signs under Gracia and this will be the match things click back for him again.’

‘Everything will come good for us this Saturday so you Geordies should stand by for a repeat of our 3-0 win at your place this season.’

‘Strikers wont score so we’re fully dependent on the midfield. Will Doucoure and Capoue turn up for this? Will Peyera be fit? Hughes and Deulefou looks like the only one who can score.

With Deulefou starting we’ll win 2-0, without it’ll probably be 0-0.’

‘Can’t wait for this one. Sun’s out, shorts on, copious amounts of lager swilling around in our guts…it just doesn’t get better than this.

4-0 us.’

‘I genuinely can’t go to this game and am delighted. It’ll be shocking.’

‘There is much debate here about the gaffer based on the fact he’s probably kept us up, but we haven’t scored away from home since he joined and are now on a long winless streak.

We’re feeling more confident about the guy we will get in for June-Oct, very disappointed in his replacement (Nov-Feb), such that we end up really excited about the surprise appointment of Pardew (British AND great experience of the prem) in late Feb.’

‘I’m sticking with my prediction that we won’t get another point this season. I’ve seen nothing to convince me otherwise. 0-2.’

‘On the proviso Delefau plays, as does Cathcart and Kabasele, oh and Hughes… + Pereyra… and maybe Gomes in goal… I actually think we will do okay for this one.

An edgy 2-1 home win wraps up the season’s meagre points haul.’

‘I’m only looking forward to this because Deulofeu is back. Hughes will finally have someone on his wavelength. I’ll be gutted if we don’t sign him, has the class we’ve been lacking all season. Be nice to see Chalobah too.’

‘As Deulofeu has been injured for most of his loan period do we get to keep him next year ?’

‘Interesting that Newcastle fans suggesting that their players are on holiday already.

I thought we put in a lot of effort Monday and if we continue in that vain then I think we will win. Hope to see Gomes and Deulofeu start and a nice 3-0 win in the sunshine. ‘

They seem to have mixed feelings about the game. Have to admit I feel the same.

The lads will probably turn up with their flip flops on and roll over, but if Rafa can somehow get the lazy oiks motivated, we could take the game to them and come away with few more, largely inconsequential, points.

  • Monkseaton Magpies

It’s about putting the ball in the net. Had three sitters against West Brom and if we had taken them everyone would have been happy. Looking forward to the game.

We win by the odd goal, their manager sacked straight after.

Once a teams chucked it for the season i think it`s very hard for a manager to get them going again.
Me, i think our lads are on the Beach

  • Whitehurst

Terrible town, terrible ground, terrible team. Always wanted this lot to be relegated…they serve no purpose in life!!

  • Viru leckworth

Watford Second lowest home gate after Bournemouth – who would back them to win. Okay they have had purple patches but time tells on poorly supported clubs. I think pride will set in and we will win this one!

  • Coble’s Return

Always think that it would be an idea to put the bairns in to play at times like this. Annoying as it is, I get the fact that there is a huge sense of relief once safety has been achieved and so it is almost inevitable that the standard will drop. So give the fringe players a go. If we are going to lose, at least the young ‘uns will pick up some experience and we will get to see something a bit different.

0-0. I’ll be going for a long bike ride tomorrow morning and I suspect I won’t have missed much once I get back.

Is that one of those Romanian Big Issue sellers, as I have had a similar conversation with one of them on Northumberland St? The one who looks like a slightly taller ‘Nick Nack’.
