Tottenham are hoping to bounce back to form on Wednesday night.
A shock defeat to West Brom on Saturday left their Champions League qualification hopes now in the balance.
Only wins over both Newcastle and Leicester would guarantee being in the top four, with Chelsea and Liverpool also fighting for the two remaining CL slots.
No doubt Mauricio Pochettino would have been looking to freshen his team up with a bit of rotation for the Newcastle match.
However, Tottenham have revealed on Tuesday lunchtime that the manager’s options will be more limited than perhaps he hoped.
Jan Vertonghen is available to play Newcastle, despite coming off late on against West Brom.
A positive for Newcastle though, is that excellent midfielder Mousa Dembele will miss Wednesday night, with Spurs hoping he might make the Leicester match.
The same is also the case for Serge Aurier, as he recovers from a hamstring problem.
England international Eric Dier and Harry Winks are also ruled out, Dier through illness and Winks with an ankle injury.
Of obvious interest for Newcastle fans is whether they will see Moussa Sissoko, the midfielder was an unused substitute at The Hawthorns, so very likely he must now be under consideration for a game as Pochettino juggles his limited resources. Although of course everything is relative and the Tottenham boss has a wealth of riches at his disposal compared to Rafa Benitez.
Tottenham official injury news:
“Mousa Dembele (ankle) is continuing rehab and will continue to be monitored ahead of Sunday’s match against Leicester.
“Harry Winks (ankle) continues rehab and will not be available for our final two games of the season.
“Jan Vertonghen is available for selection after coming off at The Hawthorns on Saturday.
“Eric Dier (illness) missed training today and is out of tomorrow’s match.
“Serge Aurier (hamstring) is being assessed to see if he can be available for Sunday’s match against Leicester.”
