After watching on at St James Park, Jamie Redknapp had no doubts.

The Sky Sports pundit declaring ‘Newcastle were brilliant, they deserved it’, as Rafa’s team ran out easy 3-0 winners.

Any neutral would have easily spotted the team that obviously was playing to try and get a place in the FA Cup final team and still with hopes of Champions League qualification.

However, they would have spotted the right attitude but playing in black and white rather than blue.

Jamie Redknapp describes Chelsea as a ‘shambles’ and suggests their fans should be compensated, such was the lack of effort.

As for Newcastle United though, Redkapp says ‘all over the park they were the better team’ and that ‘Newcastle have just wanted it more.’

The result and performance ensured a top half finish for the home side and the only worry is whether Mike Ashley will drive Rafa Benitez out.

When a manager can get a fairly limited team playing like that, with such a good attitude, then having the right man in charge is simply priceless.

Jamie Redknapp talking to Sky Sports:

“Newcastle were brilliant, they deserved it, all over park they were the better team – they closed and they pressed them.

“Chelsea…I mean it was a shambles. I feel sorry for the fans that came up here.

“I have never said this before but they should actually pay for the fans to get home, or refund them, because they don’t deserve the performance that their team put on.

“Really, really bad today.’

“Chelsea have been diabolical and honestly, the way that they have played considering what was at stake…

“They have not made a challenge, they have not made a tackle and they have not made any imprint on this game whatsoever, but Newcastle have been brilliant.

“Chelsea have been abject and Newcastle have just wanted it more.

“When I look at Chelsea, they have got a Cup final next week and they’re playing for places.

“You think a couple of them could force their way in but it’s like it has not registered with them.’”

A compliment from Jamie Redknapp? Jeez Louise.. (Sorry, I’ll get my coat)

  • Leazes.

You would think that an ex-pro footballer would know the reason for the Chelsea performance a week before the FA Cup final and understood all of the implications of going for 50/50 and knackering yourself….maybe not.

You would think sports journalists would know….hmm…. maybe not.

    Is it just me then?

Their players would know that Liverpool wouldn’t get beat off Brighton……… saving themselves for the cup final was a no brainer……

      • Leazes.

Of course they would…. stranger things have happened in football but Liverpool at the moment are quite awesome.

        • Kneebotherm8

Certainly are………they should give the Real Madrid defence a run for their money..

Generally I hate Liverpool for their self congratulation and hard done to attitude, but I like Klopp and the way he plays football without apology and hope they stuff Madrid’s glory boys in the final.
