Just like various clubs are said to be interested inn Jamaal Lascelles, no surprise to see Rafa Benitez linked with the now vacant West Ham job.

Wednesday lunchtime saw the Hammers release a statement confirming that David Moyes’ short-term contract will not be renewed/extended.

No surprise, as Moyes has done a functional job at best, in a six month spell which saw things reach a point where West Ham fans tried to storm the directors box.

The media have repeatedly linked Rafa Benitez with West Ham and so it is predictable that the early betting sees him in the top three favourites to follow Moyes.

Former Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini is currently top of the betting (see more details below), he is managing in China at the moment.

Second in the betting is Paulo Fonseca and  he is currently with Shakhtar Donetsk.

It is now five weeks since Newcastle made sure of Premier League safety and Rafa Benitez has repeatedly said there have been little/no progress on talks to convince him to extend his Newcastle contract. The manager making clear that Mike Ashley still refuses to listen to what needs to happen at the club and for Rafa to get his full support.

Everton have happily paid £6m to get rid of Sam Allardyce after only six months in the job and a year left on his contract, so little doubt that West Ham or whoever would also happily pay £6m to trigger the buyout clause in Rafa Benitez’ contract.

As for the West Ham fans, a recent poll of thousands of supporters saw them make Rafa Benitez the overwhelming choice to come in.

Rafa has repeatedly said how he wants to stay at St James Park but that doesn’t stop Newcastle fans from worrying that even despite that, he could still eventually say enough is enough with Mike Ashley’s treatment of him and if a firm offer comes in from elsewhere where he also sees potential…

Joint-Chairman David Sullivan:

“We are already taking steps to identify and recruit the manager we believe can take West Ham United forward in line with our ambitions.

We aim to appoint a high-calibre figure who we feel will lead the Club into an exciting future for our loyal supporters within the next ten days.”

      And his assistant Phil McCavity?

  • ghostrider

Only time will tell with all these managerial changes.
I’ll just sit back and take it all in my stride because no matter what happens, none of us can change it.

  • Paul Patterson

He won’t go to Everton or West Ham.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

If Rafa says Adios, expect Muppet Moyes to be in the frame to replace him

    • Peaky

Don’t panic man, Pardew will be back. “Unfinished business” you see.

  • Rich Lawson

Even if he left Nufc,Rafa is a man of ambition.West Ham aren’t going to overtake Spurs,Chelsea or Arsenal any time soon, just in London. However little we think of Ashley these 2 blokes just sell p##n for a living and have an attractive girl to do their PR/dirty work.

    • Cockneytrev

That’s why she got the job (also her father has business links with them) she knows frack all about football or journalism, she was actually knocked back for a journalism course.

  • Rich Lawson

Just been blocked for saying what Gold and Sullivan actually do for a living, not a swear word or anything derogatory (really),waitng to be approved by Mag ? But it never will be and there will be no reason stated.Sort yourself out Mag and start justifying/explaining your censorship ?

Nice to see positive headlines that Rafa and top players are going nowhere. F**k off Cashley or at least let people know what is going on. Pathetic joke of a club.

  • robbersdog

West Ham should go for Arsene Wenger; he would bring a touch of class to an East End sh*thouse and the buttplug salesmen who own it.

  • 1957

For me it’s simply a historical link, he was going to manage them once but went to Madrid instead for some reason…

I was told recently Benitez people had suggested an interest in managing Spurs if Pochettino left. MP is a hot favourite for the Madrid job if they don’t win the ECL and sack Zidane

  • LA toon

Bite their hand off Rafa as Ashley is taking the p**s. Pardew is looking for a job as well as hippoheed. Shteeve looks like going to manage QPR.

  • Stephen Paylor

Bad feeling about this, if i were Rafa i would be probably very interested in that job and the Arsenal one even more. He wont go to Everton surely when he is so close to Liverpool as a club.

  • alf garnett

Benitez would be nuts to come to us, it’s a ****ing shambles, it really is. I can’t see why he’d do it. Sullivan is at the very least as bad as Ashley as an owner and the whole atmosphere is pretty poisonous down here, and will be until those ****s are gone. Personally I’d be worried about Everton more because I reckon the guy there will spend big.
