Michael Owen predicts Watford v Newcastle
Michael Owen has been looking ahead to Saturday’s match at Vicarage Road.
Despite Watford being bottom of the Premier League form table with two points from a possible last 21, Michael Owen claims ‘they are a different proposition at Vicarage Road,’
He correctly says that they have lost only one of their last seven PL home matches but you do have to go back nine weeks since their last win at Vicarage Road, a narrow 1-0 win against hapless West Brom.
Of course it was hapless West Brom that delivered a first home defeat on Rafa Bentez since December.
Only the three clubs in the relegation zone have won fewer PL games at home than Watford, so their home record isn’t exactly anything to brag about.
When they turned up at St James Park in November, Watford strolled away with all three points, an easy 3-0 victory putting them only three points off the top four with 21 points from 13 games. Newcastle had only 14 points from their opening 13 matches.
In the meantime, Watford have managed to lose a manager and not gain many more points.
Since that game at St James Park, Watford have picked up another 17 points from 23 games, whilst Newcastle have added 27 from 22.
Watford are one of three clubs who all have only two games remaining and are three points behind Newcastle, a win for Rafa and his team would almost guarantee a top ten finish.
Michael Owen goes for a point each in a ‘low scoring game’, that point would at least guarantee Newcastle heading into the final week of the season in the top half.
Hopefully Newcastle pick their form back up and give yet another sold out away following a win and some decent play.
Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:
“Watford are without a win in their last seven but are a different proposition at Vicarage Road to the side who showed so little for the first hour at Wembley earlier in the week.
“Rafa Benitez has done very well to steer his side into the top half of the table.
“But they have not been at their best in recent weeks losing to both Everton and West Brom and failing to score in either game.
“The Hornets have lost just one of their last seven home league games and I expect them to get a point against the Magpies in a low-scoring game.
“Prediction Is – Game to finish in a draw at 23/10.”
