After recent speculation, Jamaal Lascelles had a positive message for the fans.
The Newcastle captain declaring ‘This is the right club for me at the right time.’
The likes of Chelsea and Spurs have already been linked and now it has been claimed Jurgen Klopp wants Jamaal Lascelles to be added to his squad this summer.
After being Newcastle’s player of the year and leader, little wonder that clubs are being linked with him.
However, the 24 year old states ‘This is the happiest I have been…I am very happy here.’
Those latest media stories claimed Liverpool want him to provide competition to Lovren, for the right to play alongside Virgil van Dijk.
Jamaal Lascelles though makes clear what he needs: ‘You hear rumours and stuff, but I’m a young player and I need to be playing football.’
If there was any potential for him leaving this summer then you could only imagine it would have to be a club that was offering him the chance to come in as first choice, rather than the risk of ending up on the bench.
With still only 42 Premier League starts in his career, Jamaal Lascelles needs to be playing and you have to think if he continues this season’s form, Gareth Southgate surely can’t still ignore him.
The late season run saw an impressive partnership with Florian Lejeune forming, only 11 goals conceded in the final 12 matches.
If Martin Dubravka’s permanent deal can be sorted (please!) then Newcastle have a great defensive base to build from next season.
“This is the happiest I have been.
“I am playing week in, week out, and I am the captain here.
“The fans love me, and I have got a good relationship with them, because I love them. And we’re doing well, too.
“I am very happy here.
“You hear things…you hear rumours and stuff, but I’m a young player and I need to be playing football at a good club and that is what this is.
“Overall, it has been an unreal season as far as I’m concerned, both for me personally and more importantly for the club.
“This is the right club for me at the right time.
“We have a huge fanbase, an amazing manager, and this club is massive – it has so much history.
“As captain, I want to see how far we can go and potentially take this club back to where it belongs.”
