Charlie Nicholas has given his ‘expert’ opinion on Watford v Newcastle.
Rafa Benitez has already got his team to safety and even if Watford lost today, they could still end up mathematically safe after this weekend’s results.
Charlie Nicholas suggests this set to be a pretty boring match.
He has gone for a 1-0 win to Watford with the next most likely outcome a goalless draw.
On very recent form it backs up his argument, as the Hornets have gone more than five hours without scoring, whilst the Magpies have also failed to score in their last two matches.
However, Watford are ninth top scorers (25 goals) at home and only West Ham outside the top nine in the table have scored more away goals than Newcastle’s 17.
So whilst it may be a bit too much to expect a classic, it is likely to see one or two more goals than the Sky Sports pundit predicts.
In the past when Newcastle have had to get a result and are playing teams with nothing to play for, the fear always has been that this means the opposition could be more relaxed which allows them to actually play better.
That certainly hasn’t been seen in these two games against Everton and West Brom and comments from Rafa Benitez this week, appear to indicate that he doesn’t believe Newcastle have got that hidden quality which can replace the ‘intensity’ which has been the bedrock of their fight to safety.
So will this be a stroll in the Sun for Rafa’s boys or will he have been successful if getting them wound up again?
Charlie Nicholas talking to Sky Sports [in place of Paul Merson…]:
“I think Javi Gracia is fighting for his job and could see that motivation be the difference here.
“I have gone for a narrow home win but it could easily be 0-0 with neither side having much to play for.
“Prediction is Watford 1 Newcastle 0.”
