What a start to football club management for Antonio Conte.

He took over a dominant Juventus side in 2011 and in his first ever season as a manager, won the Serie A title.

The following season (2012/13) he did the same.

Then did it again (2013/14).

After a two year stint with the Italian national side, Antonio Conte went back into football management with Chelsea.

After a 10th place finish for the blues before he got there, he instantly took them up to the top and made it four league titles in four  years of club management.

Conte admits it has been a shock, especially what happened today, as instead of lifting a trophy, he watched his team come a distant second best to Newcastle.

The Chelsea boss holding his hands up: ‘From the start, Newcastle outplayed us in every way…they deserved to win.’

I can’t disagree!

Antonio Conte:

“For sure we didn’t play a good game.

“From the start, Newcastle outplayed us in every way.

“Newcastle showed a great desire and will to take all three points and finish the season in the best possible way.

“For sure we can do better than this…

“I think there was a great frustration because in our mind, there was the will to finish this season in the best possible way.

“Instead, from the start we didn’t show the right will to finish the season in the best possible way.

“Newcastle outplayed us and they deserved to win.

“However, I am the first person to answer for this and we must change for te FA Cup final.  if we think we can play like this then we don’t have a chance.

“We have (just) six days to change our approach, our desire, our will to fight.

“At the end of the season I like to play to win…this is my first season when I didn’t win the title.

“Three with Juventus and one with Chelsea – when I start a season I have always won.

“A great disappointment for me because I like to play to win and so to finish fifth is a big disappointment for me.

“Our fans deserved more today.”

You really are deluded Jackie if you think this represents anything other than an end of season game, a week away from the cup final for Chelsea….and your system of logic defies belief…

…..I remember when we got knocked out of the FA cup by Hereford and the next week we beat Manure away…. now then in your world of fantasy that makes Hereford better than Man United!

What the heck is the matter with you people?

Yes today United took a walk through the Chelsea Flower show and a few of our players put themselves in the shop window but really get a grip fellah!

You and Porter are as big a disgrace as Ryder!

To be fair I don’t see anything in the article to suggest that the author implied that this was of any significance other than we deservedly won. Whether it was a game where Chelsea backed off because of the cup or whatever doesn’t detract from the fact that Newcastle were the much better team than them today. That’s really all the author seems to be highlighting.

Read the headline and first paragraph, Two years ago we beat spuds 5-1 and promptly got relegated you can’t make claims of dominance for the end of campaign games which are a bit meaningless certainly as far as the cup finalist are concerned.

It is damaging to United to ‘Big them up’ in the isolation of a single game and as we’ve just seen that Ashley has elevated the squad to Premiership standard…. dangerous, the Chronicle boys will do the same! In effect this will be all the excuses that the enemies of United need to justify withholding spending. By enemies of United I’m referring to Journalists who pass themselves off as fans and they’re nothing of the sort.

Three points, a great game, and a bad result.

Quite right,as I said thru’ the week,Conte is leaving, the players know this, they try to avoid injuries/suspensions for the glamour of a Cup Final and for some of them a World Cup.It is a good result on the day and a nice way to finish the program but this was not the same team we lost to earlier in the season and should not garner false hope.We need a lot of investment in the summer to better this position.

  • Chelsea are only good when Hazard or William feel like playing.
Today was one of those days and we could have won by 4-5 at least.
Great result for the lads and Rafa, great result for us fans.
Let’s hope come August Benitez and all the core team is here plus 2-3 quality additions so we can challenge even further up the table.
