Aleksandar Mitrovic will be lining up at Wembley later this month.

The Newcastle loan striker didn’t get on the scoresheet but played a full part as Fulham won 2-0 at Craven Cottage to win their Championship play-off semi-final.

Trailing 1-0 to Derby County from the first leg, Aleksandar Mitrovic was unlucky to see a first half header brilliantly saved by Scott Carson.

However, two minutes after the break, Fulham opened the scoring on the night and levelled the tie, Sessegnon getting the goal.

Denis Odoi then scored the crucial winning goal on 66 minutes when heading home from a corner.

Fulham completely dominated and by the end of the game it was 10 v 1 when it came to efforts on target.

Mitro coming close to adding a third in the later stages.

The two goals were enough though and Fulham will play either Aston Villa or Middlesbrough for a place in the Premier League next season.

They meet at Villa Park on Tuesday night and Villa lead 1-0 from the first leg.

A bit of a football fest on Saturday 26 May.

The Championship play-off final kicks off at 5pm at Wembley and then 7.45pm, the Champions League final kicks off in Kiev, between Real Madrid and Liverpool. If the play-off final goes to extra-time then it will almost be clashing with that game in the Ukraine.

Good luck to Aleksandar Mitrovic and Fulham in that play-off final, not difficult to favour them anyway when the alternative is Villa or Middlesbrough.

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

They were the better side in the second half and just about did enough in what was a quite intense spectacle.
Derby Co were good in the first half but failed to make their spell on top count with the rest of the game passing them by.

I don’t know what it is with Derby and Sky Sports because whenever they are on live they seem to get turned over !

  • Leazes.

Come on Villa or Boro….last thing we want is another bloody London club!

    • Come&TakeIt1836

We agree on this. And not particularly interested in the Villians success either. I’ll be pulling against the odds for Boro.

    • Peaky

With you there….every time I see Fulham I’m reminded what a cu*t Damien Duff was…

      • kingfisher

Another highly informative and eloquent post Mr Peaky 🤣😁😀

      • Jezza

Duff never seemed to produce his best football at Newcastle and a lot of the time he didn’t really look like he was trying that hard.

        • Peaky

It was his over the top celebrations in front of our fans after he’d left that peed me offf….left a really sour taste…

          • Jezza

Ah yes, of course, I’d forgotten about that.

    • molend

Ideally, Mitro scores a hat-trick and Boro win 4-3. Still rather have Fulham than Villa, mind.

      • Leazes.

Then we flog him to Boro.

  • Rich Lawson

Despite the Mitro’ involvement Fulham have been great this season and thoroughly deserve to go up. the play offs are for mugs tv time,3rd when they were so close to Cardiff and have done the biz most of the year should mean automatic promotion not an end of season lottery.

    • mentalman

play offs keep the league interesting and give the teams something to play for

      • Rich Lawson

I don’t agree,I think if you have put the effort in over the season and have finished 3rd,you shouldn’t lose out to the team in say 6th just so Sky can squeeze a few more games in,it is unfair.

        • mentalman

if the top 3 teams are uncatchable by February what else is there to play for, players will stop trying and it’s the fans who will suffer

    • Jezza

I agree entirely. Bringing in the play offs in 1987 was the first step in the wholesale destruction of our national game. None of us will never forget when we finished 3rd in 1990 and lost in the play offs to Sunderland who had finished 6th. Then to add insult to injury, Sunderland lost the play off final but still ended up getting promoted.

      • Peaky

Was that the whole Swindon Town saga ???

        • Jezza

Certainly was, Peaky. In a strange twist of fate it all came full circle because the game in which the Swindon chairman had placed a bet on his team losing was the FA Cup game they played against us at St James’s Park in 1988.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Wow, Jezza, that’s true, you got something right, well done – Lou Macari and all that.

  • mentalman

I watched the 2 play off games and mitro looked good, much better hold up play, his first touch looks to have improved, he helps out defensively and his shooting looked a lot sharper.

    • Billmag

Actually missed a sitter with his head, but there you go he did play quite well mind you.

    • fistsofsteel2

How do you know he’s improved? He’s only played about 5mins football under Rafa……..and even then he still looked better than Joselu or Gayle.
Clearly him and Rafa just don’t get along.

      • mentalman

I’ve criticised mitro since joining for a number of things, most of which he looked like he has improved.

    • panther

      happens when you get gametime

  • Monkseaton Magpies

One can only hope that Villa or Boro come up as yet another London trip is not good at all especially one lacking in bars round the ground.
