Mo Salah has already been named Premier League player of the year and is a strong candidate for World player of the year, especially if going on to help Liverpool win the Champions League.

Last night, the left footed genius put on a brilliant display and scored twice as Liverpool beat Roma 5-2.

However, he could very easily have been turning out for Newcastle United instead…

It turns out that back in 2011,  Mo Salah was on the verge of joining Newcastle.

After impressing in the Under 20s World Cup, Salah said in August 2011 that he expected to shortly join Newcastle on loan.

The then 19 year old said it would be a dream to join Newcastle and play in the Premier League.

Who knows what went wrong…but Mo Salah stayed one more year in Egypt with Arab Contractors and then a year later moved for £2m to Basel in Switzerland.

It was then Chelsea, Roma, and now Liverpool, where he is looking like he could become one of the greats of World football in the next few years.

The story of our lives as Newcastle fans, what might have been…

Mo Salah talking to Ahram Online – August 2011:

“Newcastle will soon make an official offer to sign me for one season.

“I don’t think Contractors will refuse to let me play in the English Premier League.

“It’s a dream for any player to play in one of the strongest league competitions in the world.”

“I want to play abroad, I think this would be my next step.”

  • Rabid Dog

Pardew would have crushed any talent he had out of existence with his utter ineptitude

    • Jezza

Yes, the lad might not realise it but not joining Newcastle at the age of 19 was probably the biggest lucky break he’s had in his career. As you say Pardew would have knocked all the talent, flair and confidence out of him and set his career back years.

As for why the transfer never materialised, could it be that Ashley wouldn’t dip into the profits to fund the loan fee? Wouldn’t be the first time or the last. Not forgetting that back in 2011 Ashley had just pocketed the £35 million Andy Carroll money.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

I think the loan fee was £500,000 & the Pie Man blocked it.

        • Jezza

Yes the Pie Man saved half a million by signing Shefki Kuqi instead of Mo Salah. Wonder if he still thinks it was worth it.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

            wrong season, lying again?

          • Rich Lawson

            Sadly,doubt he gives it a 2nd thought !

        • Guest 2

Well, the fat nonce also turned down Modric – offered to KK for £1 million. He and the goon squad (Wise etc) decided £1 million was too much and offered £500k. The rest is history.

      • Peaky

Pardew would have had him in straight at left back….nee bother..

      • Leazes.

Pardew couldn’t handle the huge ego’s that accompany top players.

        • Dillon Tovak

Because of his own huge ego.

        • Rich Lawson

Is that why he got an 8 year contract,to top Curtis’s 6,wouldn’t be in the least surprised.

      • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

He didn’t take £35m, lying again tut, tut.

  • Scottie Chugger Dearden

Ha ha, nearly got Ginola as well .oh wait a minute?

  • Leazes.

Sheikh Mansour nearly chose us too….. so near so far…. instead we got Curtis Good and Mike Ashley.

  • Ismael Nguema

nearly for the final boys, great win last night i’m so proud for all this players be sharp at roma i know we can make it, and i know liverpool will learn barcelona leason when they lose again roma

    • Leazes.

This is a United site idiot!

      • TheNutJob

        😂😂😂

      • Benmagpie

Why do you bully foreigners on here? Are you a xenophobe? A cyber bully? Both? Is it appropriate to demean visitors to the site?

  • Paul Patterson

Well that’s cheered me right up . .

  • Peaky

Trouble at Anfield again last night I see….

    • Leazes.

      5-2 no trouble at all.

    • Cockneytrev

I’ve been to Italy 3 times watching Newcastle and 2 times we were attacked, Rome and Turin,, both times attacked with belts, Turin going into a bar and Rome coming out of a restaurant, remember a police presence both times and they let the attackers get away.

      • Peaky

Shocking in this day and age…..got fears things could be nasty in Russia but at least there’ll be no Italians there..

        • Cockneytrev

I’ve been to 2 of the last world cups,, Germany fantastic, South Africa, well policed in fan areas, couldn’t get to Brazil due to last minute unforeseen events,,, I’ve been invited to go to Russia with Russian nationals, but I’m giving it a swerve,, I think that an England fan will be killed,

          • Peaky

Don’t blame you….there was a recent documentary showing how the hooligan element of Russian football are trained with military precision….very very scary.

          • Cockneytrev

            State sponsored.? who knows,,,

          • Leazes.

Yes I saw that…. it was a bit silly….turned out very strange as they were all the members of the same martial arts club…. why would you do a program Identifying yourselves if you were about to commit a crime?

          • richardbraverman

thats what the US army does. It identifies itself before committing crimes

          • Rich Lawson

Because they celebrate the ”Russian” identity and will get little trouble from Putin’s malitia.

          • Peaky

The Russian ‘police’ will probably turn a blind eye…

          • Rich Lawson

And wear gloves when you touch the door handle of your hotel room !

          • Peaky

            😂😂

          • nufcslf

The beautiful game….. It’s not fair that England gets all of the hooligan stick. Not that it isn’t there in pockets, it is. I often say to people here in Vancouver, it is because the prem is the most televised league in the world, all of any football trouble must come from there, then. So far from the truth. Russia will be interesting and fascinating to see how it will be policed. Not fae off now.

          • Rich Lawson

            Someone will ,without a doubt.

        • Dillon Tovak

It’s not a case of having fears, it’s 100% guaranteed England fans will be in trouble this summer.

          • Peaky

Without a doubt….they’ll be targeted and provoked from stepping off the plane….and that’s all we will hear on the news…

          • Dillon Tovak

Previously I’d of been sceptical and thought “I bet the England fans were being 💩’s too”.
But my mates report of what happened to him at the last euros at the hands of the Russians is evidence enough for me you’d be mad to travel there this summer.

          • Rich Lawson

They never seem to learn and you have to wonder how many of a small percentage (who tar the rest) have tickets or even want to watch a game ?

        • Rich Lawson

Be nice if they were, just to see how they got on trying this s##t against the Russian ultra’s ?

  • Cockneytrev

Only bright side of this missed opportunity is,,,
His value now? North of £100mil, that’s £100 mil Ashley can’t get his fat grubby hands on,,

  • Gallowgate1982

our academy would have ruined the kid he would be a washed up failure on loan at some scottish outpost by now

    • Rich Lawson

Or helping Pedro pull weeds in the garden ?

    • BeatleJews

I think the euphoria of survival should not displace the fact that the club is in a mess, the acadamy is not producing anything and thats been the case for years now, and we will probably be in the dumpster specials this offseason knowing Mike Ashley.

It is actually very depressing that just a soundly run football club with some ambition and dreams, but that is to much to ask from the capitalist

  • Leicester Mag

I’m intrigued and eagerly waiting for the usual suspects to spin the positives around this one. may wait a while. Our talent scouting reminds me of the business that was offered Google for a £1. We couldn’t dig up a tatty let alone spotting the next gem. Hard not to feel Rafa has put a roof over a simmering turrd pie.

  • BeatleJews

It was like the times Darren Bent was at Ipswich, we didn’t pay the 2m demanded thinking it was steep for a striker that went on to have a very solid career.

  • nufcslf

Almost signed for the toon and then saw what a clown of a manager Pisdew was plus the club having a useless none football fat c** t as an owner. Not going there………

  • GToon

    Lucky for him.

  • Desree

Wonder how much fatty would have sold him for?

  • 1ewis

And Zidane, Lewandowski nearly joined Blackburn Rovers?

    Stories of what-could-have-been are depressing.
