Redknapp selects Newcastle United pair in his Premier League team of the week

A Premier League weekend full of some great matches and outstanding goals, Jamie Redknapp now having picked his best 11 players from the games on Saturday and Sunday.

Whilst there was a game of some importance in Manchester, it was the King Power Stadium that played host to the main event.

Newcastle United putting in a superb team performance that was far too good for a Leicester side who struggled to match them throughout.

It says it all that it took 83 minutes for the first effort on target for the home side, Jamie Vardy scoring form only a yard or two out, a very rare lapse for this Newcastle team.

By that time, Newcastle had already scored twice and it should have been more, as every player contributed to a brilliant day for manager, team and travelling fans.

However, were there any individual players that stood out?

Well, Jamie Redknapp has gone with (non-)England pair Jamaal Lascelles and Jonjo Shelvey.

The Newcastle captain was once again immense at the back, organising his team throughout and not putting a foot, or head, wrong in his own personal game.

As for Shelvey, you can see he is growing all the time in terms of the confidence and freedom he is feeling in this Newcastle side that is becoming more expansive in its play.

A brilliantly taken opening goal capped a great display.

Gareth Southgate is surely now feeling a little bit embarrassed after ignoring both players for even his last 27 man friendly squad never mind when he picks 23 to go to Russia.

When you compared Harry Maguire and Jamaal Lascelles on Saturday, there was no doubting which one looked an international player…and he wasn’t wearing a blue shirt.
