Paul Merson says Rafa Benitez isn’t there quite yet…

Paul Merson thinks Newcastle’s win over Huddersfield was a ‘massive result’.

However, he doesn’t believe that puts Rafa Benitez and his team safe yet.

United are now 12th with seven games to go and many clubs below them are in really poor form.

Paul Merson thinks that ‘Newcastle only need one win but that’s hard to get.’

On the brighter side of things Merson says that if Newcastle can get a win on Saturday (or any other time) to put them on 38 points, then he declares ‘how are they {18th placed Southampton and 19th placed Stoke] going to get 38?’

As always though, you get the impression that Paul Merson makes his predictions with zero research.

He goes with Leicester to win 2-0 and says the Foxes are ‘a dangerous team’, this though conveniently fails to mention that they have failed to win their last three home games, drawing against Swansea, Stoke and Bournemouth.

Meanwhile, since December Newcastle have only failed to score in the Premier League once away at Liverpool.

Paul Merson talking to Sky Sports:

“Newcastle’s win over Huddersfield was a massive result…

“But I’ve got to go with Leicester, they’re a dangerous team.

“I would say Newcastle are a win away from safety.

“I think 38 points is enough – you look at Southampton and Stoke, how are they going to get to 38?

“Newcastle only need one win but that’s hard to get.

“Prediction is Leicester 2 Newcastle 0.”
