Always interesting to see what supporters have collectively made of the latest performance, when using our interactive ratings system.

Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

Rafa Benitez always makes a big issue out of competition.

Even in the Championship he explained how he wanted to try and have competition for every place in the team, as that is the best way he feels to make sure every player gives their all.

On Saturday at Leicester there was no doubt every Newcastle player was giving their all and when it came to who was man of the match, United fans found it hard to separate five players.

Just edging it was Jonjo Shelvey (8.4) from the other goalscorer (who also got an assist for Shelvey’s) Ayoze Perez (8.3).

Shelvey gave a great all round display whilst it was almost certainly the Spaniard’s best performance of the season.

The next three contenders were all at the back, as a great defensive display limited Leicester to just the one effort on target.

Jamaal Lascelles (7.8) led the team superbly, with great assistance from the likes of Dummett (7.7) and Lejeune (7.7), the Frenchman also getting an assist when his long ball created the opportunity for Perez to score the winner.

Those five had a great supporting with Mohamed Diame (7.5) giving yet another all action display, whilst Kenedy (7.4) always had the Foxes guessing with his dribbling skills and ability to open them up.

Ritchie and Yedlin (both 7.2) never stopped running on the right side, whilst Dubravka (7.0) didn’t make a save but dealt so confidently with balls into the box and swept up behind his defenders when needs be. He could do nothing about the goal.

The odd man out was Dwight Gayle (6.3) who in reality didn’t do a lot wrong apart from fail to score again, his approach work is generally very good and he helped set up the opening goal, but just can’t get on the scoresheet himself which is a nightmare for him personally and could have been a massive negative for the team, if not for goals starting to flow from elsewhere.
