The results of the Newcastle v Huddersfield player ratings by fans.

Always interesting to see what supporters have collectively made of the latest performance, when using our interactive ratings system.

Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

Newcastle should have been out of sight by half-time but the ball just wouldn’t go in the net, a dip in the second-half as a very defensive Huddersfield made it difficult, but United kept on going and got their just reward.

Ayoze Perez getting the goal but who stood out for the fans.

In the fan ratings, there were four strong contenders for man of the match, two defenders and two midfielders.

Jamaal Lascelles (7.5) was dominant at the back but just pipped by Paul Dummett (7.7) as United’s top defender on the day, the full-back getting better and better since returning from injury.

However, it was left to the two central midfielders to finally fight out top spot.

Jonjo Shelvey (7.9) did everything he could to open up the visitors but it was an all action Mohamed Diame (8.3) who took top honours.

If Newcastle had got the two, three, or four goal win they deserved, then no doubt every player would have had a slightly higher rating but that wasn’t the case, with only Florian Lejeune (7.1) getting 7.0 or higher, from the remainder of the team – another very good display alongside Lascelles.

At the bottom end, Dwight Gayle (5.6) is finding the like of a striker tough at the minute. A lot of his approach play is decent but when you don’t hit the net…the striker missing two great chances.

The rest of the team were rated fair to average with all of them offering something.

DeAndre Yedlin had some loose passes but then as always, makes up for weaker parts in his game with his pace and energy, as well as some decent support going forward and the odd good ball into the box.

Kenedy (6.8) and Perez (6.7) combined for the goal, on a day when neither of them really impressed. The man from Tenerife starting and finishing the move as his Brazilian team-mate kept his composure and played an intelligent short pass that gave Perez an easy finish.

Matt Ritchie (6.8) was full of energy and commitment but struggled a bit to be creative against a packed defence, whilst Martin Dubravka (6.9) had one of those afternoons where the opposition had not a single effort on target but his focus and concentration helped make sure his defenders weren’t allowed to go to sleep, whilst he coped comfortably with the balls that were delivered into the box.
