Newcastle 2 Arsenal 1 – Match ratings of all NUFC players
Newcastle 2 Arsenal 1 – Sunday 15 April 2018 1.30pm
We asked Jamie Swan to give us his match ratings after today’s game.
A brilliant 2-1 victory and some excellent write-ups on the players who performed today.
What a magnificent result and mettle proven, coming back from a goal down to win at home AGAIN!
Our lucky mascot strikes again! What an addition he has been.
Although Arsenal had a lot of the ball he didn’t have a great deal to do. Couldn’t do nowt about the goal, couple of good takes, though did have a dodgy flap at Lacazette in the second half and got away with it.
Ran up and down all day and got a very good assist. Arsenal targeted that flank and he and Ritchie had to put a proper shift in. If I was harsh I would mark him down for his hair and hair band – shocking!
This lad is just solid as a rock. He just wants it – love it. Arsenal didn’t get any joy out of him.
Sloppy in possession at times, but an absolute rock AGAIN. Another one who wants it and gets it. Love this kid.
Spraying some Hollywood balls around first half showing some serious skills. Ball played over his head for their goal and gave one daft free-kick away. Apart from that, first class, and his partnership with the Captain is quality.
A couple of majestic passes from his right boot again. A lot of his short passing was a bit hitty missy and lost it a few times, but put enough in to get a decent score in my opinion.
Diame 9 MOTM
This guy has got to be a ringer!
What has happened to the old Diame?
Locked in a cupboard somewhere maybe…but the new Diame is an absolute beast.
He covered every blade of grass and not one Arsenal player could live with his energy. Well played mate, Man of the match.
Not his best game for us but such a threat, nearly bagged himself a goal when it spooned up and hit the corner of the post and bar.
Bit sloppy in possession but he also did a shift and helped Dummett out a lot when needed towards the end.
Now I’m a big fan of Matty and I think he has so much to offer. He has proper quality and that finish with his weaker foot was just MINT.
One of the best attitudes I’ve seen in a black and white shirt. Wears the colours with pride and plays like he cares.
Not much luck and never really had a chance or looked like scoring, but he made some decent runs, and his movement and Shelveys passing paved the way for the equaliser. Got subbed.
Perez – 8
Three goals in three games and this one was an excellent finish. He was awake when the Arsenal player was catching some zzzzzzs. Pleased for him, and he’s still frustrating, but becoming a key player.
I think this lad made a big impact coming on and helped push the whole team up a bit.
A couple of runs, a hand (or head) in the second and set up a chance for Ayoze. I like him and very interested to see if he starts the next game.
Not on that long, worked hard, won a few headers and free kicks. Looked like he was shot by a sniper for one free kick won ha ha.
Nice to see him on, if even briefly. Worked hard to keep the ball in the corner and then smashed off an Arsenal player and out. Nice one son.
Rafa Benitez 10
I wanted to mention this guy. He is the greatest thing to happen to this club. We are so lucky to have him and Mr Benitez, from the bottom of me heart – THANK YOU and I love the bones of ye man!
