Michael Owen predicts Newcastle v Arsenal on Sunday

Michael Owen has been looking ahead to St James Park on Sunday.

It is Newcastle v Arsenal with some painful memories for the hosts.

It is 13 years since Newcastle beat Arsene Wenger’s team at home and only once in the last 22 games (home and away – all competitions) have NUFC beaten Arsenal.

Michael Owen picks out another stat, with Newcastle losing all of their last 10 matches against Sunday’s opponents.

However, he believes that will all change this time…11th time lucky?

The only question for Owen, being whether it will be one or three points for Rafa Benitez?

Despite being only sixth and 30 points behind Manchester City, only Pep Guardiola’s sude have picked up more points at home than Arsenal.

However, with only three wins (and four draws) on the road, no club in the Premier League top 12 has picked up so few points away.

Recent results illustrate this, Arsenal winning their last five games (all competitions) at home, but losing their last four Premier League games away.

The split for Arsenal is 41 points at home and 13 away, whilst for Newcastle United it is 22 and 16.

Michael Owen sits on the fence a little bit, as he suggests having a bet on Newcastle winning but with a draw being a no bet. That basically means if NUFC win, then you win your bet at 31/20 (rather than the normal 13/5 odds Newcastle are to win on Sunday), but if it is a draw you get your money back.

With Arsenal’s involvement in Europe tonight – the travel to Moscow and back, plus Wenger set to play strong team v CSKA Moscow and a weakened team on Sunday, Newcastle must surely have every chance of breaking that 10 game losing run.

So then the next question is whether they have enough to actually win the game. I think Newcastle will be well up for this and Arsenal will do well to get away without a defeat.

Really looking forward to this one.

Michael Owen talking to BetVictor:

“Arsenal had played and won five successive home games prior to their trip to Moscow on Thursday for the second leg of their quarter-final Europa League tie.

“Newcastle will be well aware that they have lost their last 10 PL games against the Gunners but I think they will buck that trend at St James’s Park on Sunday.

“United have won their last three league games while the Gunners have actually lost their last four PL games on the road.

“Yes – they have not played an away league game since their 2-1 defeat at Brighton at the beginning of March!

“Arsenal have only won thirteen of their 54 points so far this season on their travels and if there is to be a winner on Sunday, I expect United will edge it.

“Tip: Newcastle draw no bet at 31/20.”

Newcastle v Arsenal Match Betting with BetVictor:

Newcastle win 13/5 – Draw 13/5 – Arsenal win 11/10

Perez to score first goal 9/1 – NUFC win 1-0 12/1 – Slimani to score in both halves 33/1
