Leicester 1 Newcastle 2 – Saturday 7 April 3pm

We asked a number of our regular writers to give us a brief instant reaction after the final whistle.

Goals from Jonjo Shelvey and Ayoze Perez giving Newcastle a very deserved victory.

That makes it now three wins in a row and 38 points, putting United into the top half of the table.

Paul Patterson:

“Well done lads and well done Rafa.

“Safety surely assured.

“All together now…”S……. going down and the Mags are staying up.”

Jamie Smith:

“An amazing result and absolute relaxation as other scores went well and, whatever the rhetoric that may come forth, we are safe for this season and await developments on the future of the club with bated breath.

“Two magnificent goals.

“Perez’ chip will obviously bring memories of the great Phillipe Albert against Schmeichel sr…

“But the headline story is an underfunded, unfancied side finds themselves in the top half.

“Rafa is beyond incredible and I love him.”

Nat Seaton:

“What a win!

“Two great goals!!

“I can finally believe in us being a Premier League team next year!!!”

David Punton:

“How does the saying go…?

‘Jamie Vardy’s having a party?’

“Well, today he’s not.”

Kevin Christie:

“Survival all but guaranteed!

“Another impressive performance and another well-deserved 3 points.

“The ghost of Bournemouth laid to rest.

“Another solid defensive display; Dubravka didn’t let his error get to him – looked assured and composed in the final 10 minutes when lesser characters might have crumbled.

“Arsenal, Chelsea and others in need of a top class manager….”

Toon Bano:

“Great performance. Great result.

“See you in the Premier League next year.

“Get in!!!”

Paul Lyon:

“Newcastle. United. Will never be defeated!!

“I love this bunch of lads!

“Brilliant, brilliant result”

Jamie Swan:

“Really buzzing after that result.

“Two cracking goals from Shelvey and Perez, probably should have had a penalty against, but I don’t give one flying fig.

“We are forming real partnerships in the spine of the team and that bodes really well.

“An unchanged team for the third game in a row means Rafa likes what he sees too.

“Couldn’t be happier with a whiff of fresh air from the right end of the table.

“Bit of late squeaky bum drama, but held firm. Beltronics!

“NUFC – making Schmeichels look owa their heeds in despair since 1892.

“Well, erm 1996.

Very good performance I’ve just seen and greatly deserved win.
In the last 3-4 months Benitez has got the measure of the top league with the squad he has, what each player and the team is capable and able to do, and has set them up accordingly.
No one should doubt that our manager is the club’s biggest asset.
If Ashley stays on after the summer – which I suspect he will as he Is on too much of a good thing and making boat loads out of us – and Benitez gets a better offer – which I expect he will – it will be a struggle next year. Fortunately I’m not going to hang around with the FCB in charge any longer.
Get out of our club…United HWTL

  • TheFatController

Should Ashley stay, hopefully he can recognise that, like all good businesses, profits should be re invested.

But given we are now a guaranteed profitable club, given we’re on the PL gravy train again, I have no doubt someone will want to join in this jamboree of football that Rafa has created.

Ashley must be sat there now sourcing a new buyer, much as we hate him he’s never had it so good. Might just be goodbye time with today’s result …

    • Duh

Yeah, we have enough points for a buyer to assume pl survival now. There is not much more upside for Ashley, we can probably finish a couple of places higher at most.

Seems we hit a point where the value can be determined with relative certainty.

I think Ashley will want to see the season out though.

If he does stick around, I would say Rafa can invest this year’s revenue but not next season’s.

That’s likely 50m when you subtract agent’s fees and what not and not including any proceeds from selling players.

  • Peaky

Naughty naughty Newcastle have the cheek to beat Leicester….Howay Vardy & chums get the manager sacked tomorrow…..

  • Buck Blacket

Can’t help noticing that the people who were queuing up on here to knock Rafa and question his judgement and even his qualities as a manager have all gone rather quiet recently. I was even told to grow up for daring to use the “In Rafa we trust” mantra! Most of us never lost that faith though but to those that did ( and you know who you are) how do you feel now?

    • TheFatController

I’ve had ‘all you ‘Rafa Messiah’ lot’ – That was this week!

      • Buck Blacket

Sorry but I have no idea what that means, care to explain?

        • TheFatController

Can’t be bothered, sorry. Perhaps pop a reply shaming me? Have a little buzz off it whilst the rest of us enjoy Saturday with our friends .

          • Buck Blacket

I clearly miss understood. I unreservedly apologise and if it helps, I feel rather foolish and rightly so!

      • Buck Blacket

I recall now that you took offence at a reply that wasn’t even to you, still sulking about that eh? lol

        • TheFatController

No, sometimes I sulk, often I don’t. What were you hoping to achieve with that comment? Are you a very angry man looking to pick fights? Love the adrenaline buzz of a smug comment?

          Sad man.

    • joe mac

      silence of the sheep! lol!

      • Lhc

Sheep😂 your a sheep man your the mainstream 2018 maggot. I’m brexit I’m tommy Robinson I’m Donald trump I’m Nigel farage. I’m what’s going to save this country but I also follow nufc it’s life to me. Your the sheep ul realise it one day.

        • Ba ba.

          Main steam 2018 maggot.. Wtf.
You have no idea about him his life or politics . Yet you call him a maggot.
          It’s a football board.

  • Peaky

Hope Big Al gives it large to jug lugs Lineker tonight….

    • TheFatController

      Crisp finishes from Perez…

  • Grahame Johnson

in rafas time of need he asked us to stick with him and players, we did and now reap the rewards

    • Buck Blacket

Most did but some on here seemed to be suggesting we should be challenging for a Champions League spot and it was Rafa’s fault that we weren’t! lol

    • Jezza

      Spot on.

  • robbersdog

Hopefully the Rafa bashers on this site will shut up now; he’s doing a fabulous job and is one of the few managers in this country who could take our current squad into the position it is in now.

    • Coach Clagnut

      The only one.

    • Jezza

The Rafa bashers, all two of them, won’t shut up even if he wins the Champions League with Newcastle. The reason they have a go at Rafa is because they know it winds up Newcastle supporters. The best thing to do is just block them. If we all deprive them of the reaction they crave they might go away.

  • GlasgowMag

Great team performance every player played his part. Special mention again to our match winner Perez, held the ball up well, brought players into play, defended when needed, set up the first goal, well taken goal and basically worked his socks off!!! This is why Rafa plays him every week and others like Mitro are out on loan!! Well done kid at least 12 points this season gained this season from your efforts enough said!!!

  • nufcslf

Onto next Sunday and a confident side that should have nothing to fear from an Arsenal side that has had mean nothing season and like Leicester today can be beaten. Great result again today, just a shame we still have the same fat c**t owner in the background.

    • Duh

They have to go to Russia in the meantime as well. They may be 3-0 but they won’t want to take any chances, Uefa cup is their best chance for cL league

  • Ba ba.

Smells like team spirit … Let’s all enjoy . .Howay the lads

  • Ba ba.

Still nowt from ghostrider, fists of steel and the other trolls … Show your face make a comment you’ll maybe gain some respect . ……. There was another one on here who made his mouth go a bit on rafa .. .went home and away… Not Monkseaton but another lap, lhc or something he wanted raf sacked….. There all disturbingly quiet 🤫
    Wanted flair and champagne football

    • TheFatController

I think they’re spending the night on Man City websites winding up with ‘guardiola out’ antagonism …

      • Coach Clagnut

Probably ManUre fans who hate the connection Rafa has with Liverpool. Or scouse mackems perhaps. Could even be Chelskovich fans.
        Plastic fanboys at best.

        • Lhc

Plastic😂 your embarrasing lad, happily meet you anytime at game home or away, send me your number you pussy.

          • Coach Clagnut

Giz a kiss keyboard blurt & a’ll think aboot it

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

I’ve offered to meet people in a match day for a friendly beer but you find none of them go to the game.

        • Jezza

They are definitely Manchester fans. They may dislike Rafa because of his Liverpool connections but the main reason they have a go at him on this site is simply because they know it winds up Newcastle supporters.

      • Lhc

Nerr but my gf is from Man City terrotiry spend a lot of spare time in Manchester I’m born n bred west end of Newcastle. And she would tell you that she hates my allegiance to nufc thinks it’s sad thinks if this is my life for the rest of my days following nufc I’m sad, I told her it’s the way it is it’s who I am it’s life. A lot of you lot on here are daft c u next Tuesday! Ur mag followers that’s all nothing more. See above same applies to you.

        • TheFatController

I think you missed the irony in my post …

          • Coach Clagnut

A serial idiot is that one.

        • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

I don’t always agree with you but you make a fair point.

      • Jezza

You are absolutely right as it goes. As Manchester supporters they will be celebrating their win last night and winding up their rivals. Manchester’s win will have cheered those two trolls up no end after their bitter disappointment at Newcastle’s third succesive win.

    • Lhc

Lhc here never once said ‘I want Rafa sacked’ said I struggle to understand his logic at times, I’m home and away every game always have been since I could possibly go and always will be, just got back from Leicester. I would love to meet one of you lot face to face one day I happily would home or away, let me know. We can have a pint and talk over some of this stuff.

      • Ba ba.

We know you go home and away I used to your age….. But you we’re having a right dig at rafa but he can only put out the side he can which then dictates his tactics which I myself found very frustrating this season and especially last.
He has been shot down by a few for his tactics against man City especially …. But look at the goal difference now it’s the reason we sit tenth.
He now attacks teams, why?… Because he got what he wanted Kenedy and a keeper…. The first gives us another dimension, flair and work rate. The second speaks for its self, confident fit and composed….. Could you imagine if he got what he asked for in the transfer market?
As for a pint crows nest, the hotspur or possibly the trent depends on what the lads are doing.
And to call folk pussy? Howay man give it a rest its a forum aboot the toon.

        • Coach Clagnut

Watch yersell mate, that knacker is so hard, he was hard before he was hard!

          • Rob Graham

Is he hard as nails or made of concrete haha

      • Rob Graham

Let me know if this comes off, al bring me camcorder for the fight hahaha

  • 1957

It’s really all done and dusted for me now, even Geordie John couldn’t get it wrong from this position.

Looking at the table tonight if we had done better in some of our home games against the ‘weaker’ teams in the PL and not given up a winning position at Bournemouth we could have been in the mix for a Europa League place.

I would love to know why it took so long for this version of SloMo to emerge, the improvement in his form is startling.

    • Gallowgate Frost

A Haymaker from Lascelles got SloMo going

    • nufcslf

Probably would have found a way to lose the last 2 matches especially earlier in the season. Great to see the turn around and needs fatty to help it along and not ruin it. Sadly, gone will likely be the only way for this to happen.

  • joe mac

raffa oot…..ha ha! silence is golden!….like the tremeloes sang!……we know who they are!!

    • Rich Lawson

Chip Hawkes,Brian Poole not sure about the other ones tho’ ?

  • Hughie_Gallacher

Rafa should be manager of the year for performing this small miracle, or there’s no justice.

  • Lhc

    It’s a way of life

    • Lhc

Home sweet home nufc is my life, simple.

  • gallowgate26

Oh dear Linekar big lugs, the champions pixy dust seems to have worn off.

  • Wor Monga

Hardly an error by Dubravka for their goal, Kevin…it dropped past the far post…2 players were in close attendance on Okazaki and the cross was theirs to attack it’s just a pity that one of them was the smallest player on the field, and that neither of them went aggressively enough for it, but so what it made no difference!!!
