We asked fans the question, which 11 players would you pick in your Newcastle team v Arsenal?

We put together a list of the 24 players who could potentially be selected for this 1.30pm Sunday afternoon kick-off.

An excellent response and a very clear message from fans as to how they would see the team lining up.

This despite Rafa Benitez saying he finally has a full squad to choose from.

Nine selections got 90% or higher support.

Kenedy (98%), just edging out Shelvey (97%) and Lascelles & Dubravka (both 96%) for top spot.

This left two places in the team, the most forward ones…

Islam Slimani was ruled out of last week’s game as he is still on Leicester’s books but fans have put him in their team, with 77% support.

Ayoze Perez keeps his place with 85% support, after he followed up the winner against Huddersfield with an assist and goal to defeat Leicester.

Those who a bit quicker off the mark will have realised who misses out in this fan choice of team,

Dwight Gayle paying for missed chances with only 29% of the fan vote, as they would like to see the unknown quantity of Slimani to be given a chance.

The rest of the players are nowhere really, with only Mikel Merino (13%) getting more than 10% support.

So this is the fans choice team:

So basically the same team as was put out at Leicester apart from Slimani!! Good to see everyone getting behind Rafa with his team choice at last. Yes hopefully Rafa agrees with dropping Gayle he has missed a lot of sitters recently and it would be good to see if Slimani would be a better fit within Rafa’s chosen system!!

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

I think he`ll stick with Gayle although i`d start Slimani.

Good team,Slimani to start 1st half at least and hopefully get an early goal, must not let them settle.

  • Andy Mac

If Slimani doesn’t start you’d have to ask why we’ve paid millions for his loan fee/wages while a bloke in West London is scoring for fun ?

    • Jezza

There was no loan fee for Slimani and so far he has only been paid one weeks wages by NUFC. He came on a pay per play deal with no up front fee.

      • Andy Mac

Soz Jezza I was only repeating an article in the Leicester Mercury which claimed we were paying £2m fee plus his wages ? Can’t provide the link sadly due to this s h I t e disqus system

        • Jezza

Fair enough, Andy but the Leicester Mercury are definitely wrong about that. Considering NUFC spent a week trying to haggle down the £1.5 million loan fee for Daniel Sturridge there is no way they would have paid £2 million for Slimani. The far more likely scenarion is that any mooted loan fee for Slimani only becomes payable if he plays a set number of games.
