Islam Slimani should have been sent off.

That is the decision of an FA panel of ‘elite officials’, asked to look at the footage from Saturday retrospectively.

Craig Dawson made contact with the loan striker in the penalty area and then as he walked away, Slimani aimed a feeble kick at him.

It was never going to hurt anyone, although Dawson could have been injured when throwing himself to the ground, but it now looks nailed on that Islam Slimani will be banned for the rest of the season.

He has until 6pm tomorrow [Tuesday] to respond to the charge.

However, any appeal/defence is surely futile, as the TV footage speaks for itself.

No harm done but he definitely petulantly kicks out.

FA Official Statement:

‘Newcastle United’s Islam Slimani has been charged with violent conduct following an incident during the game against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday [28 April 2018].

It happened in the 80th minute and was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.

He has until 6pm on 1 May 2018 to respond to the charge.

Off the ball incidents which are not seen at the time are referred by The FA to a panel of three former elite match officials.

Each panel member will review the video footage independently of one another to determine whether they consider it a sending-off offence.

For retrospective action to be taken, and an FA charge to follow, the decision of the panel must be unanimous.’

Another brilliant signing by the Pie man`s chief Minion Penfold
    😵😵😵

    • ghostrider

Aye and if he’d scored a few and wasn’t under the penalty of a 3 game ban it would be a Rafa masterstroke.
That’s how it works when people god worship a man, isn’t it?

      • Billmag

As mentioned above Rafa (God) hasn’t found his ideal CF as yet because of your God’s restrictions.

        • ghostrider

His ideal CF would have to be God himself (assuming a God exists, of course).

  • Wor Lass

At least we saw enough of him to realise that he isn`t the answer – or, if he is, we don`t know what the question was!

    • MichaelMaximusMoose

he`d be the answer if he was for nowt.

  • Peaky

Since signing at the arce end of January he’s played a total of 130 mins spread over 4 games….unlikely to play for us again….what a bloody joke…

    • Mike

Mirror reccons at a cost of 27K a minute! wota shambles

      • Peaky

        Seriously….that makes it look even worse….you’re right….a shambles…

  • Seewhy

Might as well appeal it. What’s the worst than happen? An additional one game ban for frivolous appeal. It won’t affect us cos the extra game will take effect next year when he’s back with Leicester – and, who knows, we could be playing Leicester first game of the new season! Win-win

  • Paul Patterson

I think Leicester will have something to say about any appeal.

  • Rabid Dog

Well duh…… I guess we should be grateful we broke our transfer policy of buying under 25s to sign him….. Oh wait……

  • Clarko

    Mitrovic > Slimani

    • gold coast mag

I agree. Slimani appeared to have the ability to dribble with his first touch of the ball in our colours, but hasn’t shown any such ability since then. Mitro, despite his short comings, does have a poachers instinct in front of goal- something we lack, but when all is said and done, he doesn’t play in Rafa’s style

      • Clarko

        What style?

        • gold coast mag

the defensive/counter attacking style that has all but mathematically kept us up this season

          • mentalman

if we had scored more goals we would have probably been safer sooner

          • gold coast mag

If we,d conceded more we mightn’t have been safe-I like to see goals scored but I hate to see silly ones conceded

          • mentalman

We’ve conceded plenty of silly ones parking the bus and trying to defend a 1 goal lead which have led to us dropping points.

Had mitro been given the opportunity Hoss has i would say he’d have scored a minimum of 8 goals which could have got us a minimum of 8 extra points

Just to be clear i’m not a Mitro fan, i just think with how poorly our strikers have performed he should have been given a chance.

          • Clarko

And why can’t Mitrovic play that style? What is that based on?

          • gold coast mag

Rafa’s ability as a more knowledgeable strategist than me (and you?) to select HIS teams style

          • Clarko

No, I am asking what evidence you have that provides support to the claim that Mitrovic cannot play in a “defensive/counter attacking” team?

          • gold coast mag

In Rafa’s defensive/ counter attacking team. Principally because he doesn’t get selected. I agreed in my first post he was greater than Slimani. Apologies for long delay in reply-different time zone

          • Clarko

Therein lies the problem, you stated (like many do) that Mitrovic “doesn’t play in Rafa’s style” but you don’t know if he can because you’ve never seen it, this whole striker conundrum is because Benitez refused to play Mitrovic, nobody knows whether or not he can play in whatever system Benitez plays because he hasn’t been given a chance to do so.

Saying that he doesn’t get selected doesn’t mean he can’t play the system, it means he doesn’t play.

  • NUFC17

Dawson should also be charged for the blatant stamp on Slimani’s foot before he stupidly kicked him.

    • Ram Kishore

      Unintentional stamping

  • Andy Mac

No point appealing. Overall he’s not a NUFC player so whatever we’ve paid for his loan period (I know Jezza you reckon it was only pay as you play but I just dont see a team like Leicester giving us their record breaking signing for nowt) we might as well send him back with our blessing and our fingers crossed.

At least it’ll teach the Fatman a lesson ! Not that he ever listens to anyone ?

  • Weyhhadaway

They deserve what they get for waiting till the last day, which is why I hope Jessa is wrong about pay per play. No lessons learned, no real plan, other than not to spend. The usual transfer inadequacies with the same people in charge for this window. Other clubs must be rubbing their hands together when we show up to “negotiate”. Like the time Citeh knew that Barton was nailed on to go to jail, LOL and we still bought him and couldn’t even insert a clause to stop his wages while he was inside.

  • Weyhhadaway

When it is made public that we are negotiating for a player it give all of the other clubs three weeks notice that they need to get a number in.

  • Weyhhadaway

One of the three judges might say that is was so feeble that it was probably a trip or maybe just a mating ritual from wherever it is he comes from, you never know your luck.

  • Mxpx

Glad we brought in a more reliable player to replace that loose cannon we sent out on loan its clear that with the current rafa setup playing with a number 9 is pointless

    • Damon Horner

Slimani is looking like a panic loan, we aren’t likely to sign him in my view. I don’t think Rafa has signed a player who is his idea of a number 9 yet.

  • Weyhhadaway

The headline says they decided, the article says they will decide after they receive his appeal/comments or whatever. Another bit of sensationalism. I think I should get back to work and stop reading this dross me thinks.

    • Dillon Tovak

      He’s been charged.
      Goodbye and good riddance.
      Really immature thing to do.

  • GC

I’m no Slimani fan, but lets face it, I kick my car door shut harder than that when I’m bringing the shopping in, football is just getting silly

  • Cockneytrev

    He deserved the punishment,,
But what I hate about the whole charade of retrospective punishment is if the ref makes some kind of decision, there is no follow up,, macguire, Leicester, by the laws of the game,, RED CARD OFFENCE,,,,
Over the years of watching Newcastle I’ve seen so many dodgy decisions against us,, it’s difficult not to think there is something amiss.

  • Coach Clagnut

It’d be most welcome to have one of those “elite” refs perform in one of our games for a change.
Has anyone ever seen one of them?

    • gallowgate26

The standard of refereeing has been going down I’d say in all the time I’ve watched football. (I’m 30) The standard outside of the select group (who mainly do the PL) is even worse and bordering on amateurish. About time the FA started to recruit/ pay better. The ref at SJP a few matches ago was so old/unfit he was miles away from the play (think it was Atkinson) terrible!

  • Tony Mann

I thought when he came on in his first game for us he was a beast with a brain.
I was wrong about the brain bit.
    Another loony.

  • Mrkgw

Thats him gone then. Not a chance that Rafa will move to sign him – now way whatsoever. As Tony has said below, he looked good in his first game for us but sadly, all downhill from that point.

  • Albert Stubbins

Apart from an awesome twenty minute spell on debut he’s been hugely disappointing for me. Have we seen the best of him? Probably not but I still can’t see Rafa shelling 15 million plus for him if given the opportunity.

  • gallowgate26

OMG I’ve just watched the replays for the first time. Dawson STAMPS on the foot/toe of Slimani. Then Slimani does the smallest kick I’ve ever seen and Dawson throws himself to the floor theatrically. I’m actually embarrassed for Dawson, the ‘elite’ panel and the fact that Slimani will actually get banned for that. Harry Maguire push in the chest of Dwight Gayle was seen by the ref and only a yellow, difference? expain? Just seems to depend what club you play for!! Slimani, Mitrovic, Shelvey does something like that, it’s a ban. Harry Maguire, Deli Alli, Harry Kane, yellow or nothing at all!
