Everton 1 Newcastle 0 – Match ratings of all NUFC players

Everton 1 Newcastle 0  – Monday 23 April 2018 8pm

We asked Jonathan Drape-Comyn to give us his match ratings after today’s game.

A disappointing one goal defeat, with Newcastle not at their best and Everton scoring with their only shot on target.

Dubravka 7 – Didn’t have an awful lot to do in truth.

I don’t remember him making a real save. Couldn’t do anything for the goal I think.

Yedlin 6 – Caught under the ball for the goal but overall I thought he did alright.

Contributed well going forward but struggled to get behind an Everton defence that defended quite deep for most of the game.

Lascelles 7 – Again, even though we got beat it wasn’t a bad defensive display on the whole.

Not as if Everton had a load of chances. Like Lejeune, made plenty of clearances and did ok.

Lejeune 6 – Didn’t much wrong defensively with plenty of clearances but he lost the ball every time he attempted to bring it out of defence.

I always prefer centre halves to keep things simple.

Dummett 7 – Another one who I thought didn’t do an awful lot wrong.

Coped well with both Bolasie and Walcott.

Would have liked him to venture forward that bit more given that there wasn’t much to play for.

Diame 6 – I think both him and Shelvey were over-ran in the centre of midfield at times.

Nevertheless, he still put himself about, won his fair share of challenges.

Shelvey 5 – Passing was generally poor tonight, which is a shame given the hype that has been around about him being in the England squad (especially with the game on TV).

Ritchie 6 – Huffed and Puffed, tried his best to open things up but often came to no avail.

Perez 6 – Obviously made a poor pass that should have seen us go 1-0 up and missed a great chance in the second half – but I actually think he played well.

Lots of good touches, had a bit of flair, and an air of confidence around him. Aside from those two moments, I thought he did well.

Kenedy 5 – Had a quiet game and although looked like he could spark into life at some points, his final ball was a let down.

Can’t expect either wingers to be able to perform to the standard they have recently.

Slimani 5 – Wasn’t too impressed by him tonight.

I  don’t know when was the last time he started a game but he looked off the pace and very slow.

Touch wasn’t on point neither, but if he gets a decent run between now and the end of the season, I hope he finds his feet.

Gayle 6 – Added some fresh pace and impetus into the side when he came on but missed a good chance.

It’s true he’s getting into some half decent positions, and he was chopped down a few times close to goal, but he may have to find the back of the net a few times before the end of the season to avoid facing the chop in the summer.

Merino – N/A (Not involved enough to judge)

Murphy – N/A (Not involved enough to judge)
