Rafa Benitez was not a happy man on Saturday afternoon.

The Newcastle boss making clear his anger and frustration after losing 1-0 at home to West Brom.

The defeat at Everton was hoped to be a blip after four wins in a row preceded it..but based on this form, Newcastle could be following four wins in a row with five defeats.

Rafa Benitez declared after the final whistle that ‘Everything was wrong from the first minute’, difficult to disagree after watching that today.

Rafa Benitez:

“We tried to do it but I’m not happy with our performance on the ball, without the ball.

“Everything we did in the last few games, we didn’t do.

“We wanted to get more points to finish higher in the table but we didn’t do well today, we made a lot of mistakes and we weren’t good enough.

“We didn’t think the job was done, but it’s a pity because we’ve had a good season, but we want to finish better, too.

“I congratulate the players for a good season but we needed to be better than that today.

“The target was to stay up but if we can finish ninth we want to do that.

“It was the kind of game you don’t want to see from your team…

“Especially when you are playing to avoid relegation, you don’t want to see these performances, but when you are safe – you also don’t want to see that.

“Sometimes your players are a little bit relaxed…but they were playing with anxiety – anxiety at this stage of the season, when we have done so well, is something you can’t understand.

“We made too many mistakes, the wrong decision all the time and that is the reason why we lost the game.

“We were not playing well but you have to give credit to them because they were working hard in the position that they were, they were trying their best, they needed to win.

“For us, it was question of trying to play well, do the fight things.

“Everything was wrong from the first minute and we tried to correct things at half-time.

“In the second half we were playing too direct, too many crosses without good positions, so we were not winning any second balls.

“We were giving the ball away every single time in easy positions, without too much pressure, so when you play like that you have to lose.”

you`ll have to sort it on the training pitch then Rafa, time to crack the whip it`s not good enough when 50,000 hard working people pay money to watch that rubbish.

          • Jezza

The irony is that you are agreeing with someone who posts on this site under multiple aliases himself. Don’t Stop bobbi fleckman also posts as ComeAndTakeIt1836, nut, Martin Rooney, Ben Jones and others. His brother also posts under multiple ID’s such as Clarko, ghostbuster, Monkseaton Magpies, Mark Potter, Mike Adam among others.

I can’t see fleckman’s comments because I blocked the troll a long time ago but if he’s accusing others of posting under multiple ID’s it’s either a clear example of what psychologists call projection or he’s wilfully trying to deflect suspicion from himself.

            Fair point mate.

  • Georgia Peter

    Porciestreet .
OK,let’s be brutally honest…The Baggies were absolutely chyte, and we were worse.
10 defenders, a goalkeeper and a bus.! not easy to compete against but hey,we are and should be much better than what was dished up today. Rafa has a right to be p!55ed off.

    • Ramalingam Raghavan

This is where the need for rotation comes. It keeps players on their toes, but when you have fixed 11 complacency is expected.
Glad that our job was done when the opportunity arose.
      Some fresh faces next match.
3 more points to secure 10th place.

  • Ramalingam Raghavan

We were playing like how WBA are playing now last month. So no wonder they are giving everything for survival. We were punished for lack of effort.

  • NUFCLX

Rafa sums it up perfectly. Not very often I leave before the end but I was offski today with 5 mins left.
We are safe, job well done but I think we deserved better than that today.

    • Mark Davies

      Leave early = tosser

      • Dillon Tovak

Well the players didn’t even turn up so it’s an improvement on that.

      • NUFCLX

There seemed to a good few thousand of us Tosser’s leaving early !

  • Tino o

When you play like that you should not be in a premiership team

  • nufcslf

Regardless of recent form, West Brom are the bottom team and we should have made them feel that at home. If with our recent run this was still our best chance of getting three more points. 3 more losses from here on in to finish the season with 5 on the spin. Safe for now, but not a lot to look forward to other than more of the bloody same while fatty is the owner.

  • Leazes.

Chris Waugh of the Chronicle….’Why slump in form is merely human nature after excellent campaign’….

These idiot reporters will not face the truth about this squad…. it is a very average squad only elevated by the management skills of Benitez playing over deep midfield to frustrate and tire the opposition.

It is a Championship level squad and here we are coming into May having only just secured safety (not mathematically yet)

What in the name of Buddha are they thinking about?

There is a refusal to face the truth, bloodyminded stubborn refusal to face reality… it hasn’t been a good campaign, we had struggled with form, been defeated at home and he comes out with this stuff…. ‘good enough for the likes of us’…we know our place, and we have them on the Mag as well but when you look a little deeper you realise these hacks aren’t United fans just journalists writing template page fillers top provoke!

This club will never prosper until we round every one of them up and hang them all like dawgs!

    • Coach Clagnut

Yesssss, it’s well past a reckoning!!!!

    • JonMag

excellent campaign, therein lies the problem, those retards at the chron are no more than happy clappers for the regime

    • Lord

Only one thing I would disagree with there – we are mathematically safe (see May 8th)

      • Leazes.

        I’ve been misinformed then.

    • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

We are mathematically safe although I’m not surprised that you can’t work that out.

Swansea lost so three teams cannot reach our points total.

      Thick as pig 💩

  • GC

Rafa, take a leaf out of Fergies book and throw something at them in the dressing room…one of their bright yellow boots, or a pot of hair gel would do the trick

    • Leazes.

Unfortunately that technique is temporary and good managers use it sparingly to raise adrenaline levels…. a club without a goal or purpose other than survival is the problem regarding motivation.

      • Dillon Tovak

Well in that case footballers aren’t as obsessed with money as people make out, as they’ll get more if we finish 9th.

        • gold coast mag

true, and every extra position is extra money to hopefully be spent on increasing the quality of our team next season

          • Jezza

Where have you been for the past 11 years? Don’t you know by now that money coming into the club never gets spent on the team, it all goes into Ashley’s pocket.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Except of course, it hasn’t but you are too thick to understand.

And turning up on the pitch in whooly gloves at the end of April? Whats that about?! Managers, sort it out. They get off the team bus with headphones on, then mince around the pitch with gloves on.

  • Dummett was poor against Everton and was at fault for their goal too.
An excellent season for him but we deserved a point here and against Toffees.
Gayle is gone, Perez can’t score every game. We need q real n10 and better service.

    • Dillon Tovak

I’d say we deserved nowt from today, but a point against Everton.

  • Chris

While I’m not happy with the results in the past two games, look at the results for Leicester today. It happens.

  • Thomas Tonel

muy excellente Rafa aka fat spanish waiter. With your masterclass tactic, DEFENSE…..your countryman and fellow south americans you do not deserve anything better. You are just lucky that few wins that you got lately were mostly versus teams that did not have anything to compete for. In RAFA we TRUST heheheheh

    • Ram Kishore

      Lol.. which team u support?

      • Thomas Tonel

        NUFC…why?

    • Peaky

      Arcehole….

  • Popnbgd

It all comes down to the weakness and inefficiency of our strikers….It is a bad karma for Rafa since he mistreated Mitrovic for no good reason….Nothing is a coincidence …and Mitrovic recent form has said it all…

    • Mike Adam

Still a mystery to me why a manager doesn’t give a striker on the roster a run out on a team who’s strikers CANNOT score. How a World Class manager can play a player like Joselu so often, yet not give a chance to a 23 year old who can do everything, IMHO, that Joselu can do and better, and score goals. Then, takes an injured player on loan who does nothing better than Mitro. And . . . don’t tell me he didn’t have a say or control, he certainly had control over the 89 minutes Mitro was played.
I give Rafa all of the credit in the World for the success this season, and I don’t want him to leave. But his decisions on the offensive end of the pitch will continue to be a complete mystery to me.

  • Coach Clagnut

Correct as ever Rafa. They’ve been switched off since the Arsenal game.
    For shame.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Only another 3 games to go & we can all look forward to the summer & a complete revamp of the squad
    😂😂😂😂
    Or not !

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    Leicester want Rafa.
so it begins, there will be quite a few other clubs after him as well

    • Jezza

Rafa is going to have planty of offers this summer and all of them far better than a continuing cycle of negligible summer spend, relegation trouble by Christmas and a reliance on short term January loans to hopefully get out of prison.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

I`m afraid the last 2 games have highlighted the squads shortcomings & Fatso isn`t going to spend in the summer.

        • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

We were the better side against Everton, we’re short in linking the midfield to attack.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

Aye & we`ll still be short when we kick off in August.
By the way, what attack ?

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

I’ll have a bet with you as were mathematically safe I have £100 coming my way from Desree.

I bet £10 that we will buy 3 players in excess of £10m this summer.

          • MichaelMaximusMoose

            Ok
            BUY NOT LOAN

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Yep, three purchases, £10m or more based on Transfermkt reports in 1st September.

£10, you could buy a league cup ticket with that 😂

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Are we shaking on that bet?

            No Jezzaing out.

          • Leicester Mag

Eye and sell 2 for £40M.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Ok, with you I shall bet £10 that we spend more than we take in this summer. This is a tough one as if we get s jega-bid for Lacelles, we may struggle to keep him.

No welshing, Jezza refused to pay his debt to charity last season, that’s lower than low in my book.

          • Leicester Mag

On. One condition the net spend is +10M.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

That’s not what you were claiming before but Ok, I bet our net spend is over £10m +ve based in Transfermkt 1st September 2018

          • Jezza

Yes we will be desperately short by August. As you say there will be no money spent. The Lascelles and Mitrovic transfer fees will disappear into the fat greedy pig’s pocket along with all the television money.

          • comment

You look a bit like the fat…,pig but with a wig on?

        • Jezza

Yes not only that but three of the best players in this squad don’t even belong to us and will be returning to their clubs at the end of the season and when you factor in Fatso cashing in on Lascelles in the summer just think wher that is going to leave us.

          • Billmag

Jezza I wish you would stop going on about fatty selling Lascelles, you could very well be right if Rafa leaves but words quoted from him this week is he wants to build a team around him.

          • Jezza

Rafa may well want to build a team round Lascelles but as always Fatso wants the money and that will dictate everything. Rafa is not in charge of the club’s transfer business, Fatso is.

          • Billmag

Of course Rafa isn’t in charge of the finance nor should he be, but you can bet your bottom dollar Rafa is nobody’s fool, there’s no way he would accept as Pardspew did an Andy Carroll scenario.

          • Jezza

Which is exactly why many of believe that Rafa will walk in the summer.

          • Mike Adam

            of ???

          • comment

You mean your mackam hope and if he does we will get another top manager with a big budget and carry on ..good luck with your derby next season at Accrington

          • comment

Actually Charnley is and you don’t know what Rafa or fatso thinks .,it’s just your fetid little mackam mind

          • comment

You don’t have any best players at Sunderland you twit

      • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

We lost so Jezza is on his Keyboard again. The lad from Boldon who hates everything to do with NUFC.

        What could be his motivation?

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

It`s nearer to home for him & the owner is willing to invest
          £100m in players
if that isn`t motivation i don`t know what is

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

So, yep, he’s a Sunderland fan.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Oh, you mean it’s nearer for Rafa, u was talking of Jezza the joke.

I agree, Rafa could well go but I think it will be somewhere different to Leicester.

          • thewildchimp

Unless Everton give him another offer.

        • Monkseaton Magpies

To be honest we still missed three sitters today Kenedy, Gayle and Salami had chances where it was easier to score.
Our keeper did nothing and we were very unlucky to lose.
Yes Jezza and others are beyond the poit of no return in hating Newcastle and sticking up for Sunderland. Even if Ashley goes even with a deprogramming course and treatment they will still hate Newcastle.

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

I wasnt at the game today but was at Everton. We were much better than both teams imho and as you said, real chances although a win may have flattered us.

You are quite right, some are so blinkered by Ashley that they appear to hate the club too.

Jezza looks like a stooge more and more each day. I’d offered to meet him before games before and he refuses.

          • Monkseaton Magpies

Will gladly get you a pint at Watford if you are there will be in the Moon and Watford fifty of us stopping over. For Spurs just long day trip.

          • Mike Adam

Of course he refuses. And when you have a different opinion than his he calls you a Mackem and blocks you!!!

          • Dont stop bobbi fleckman

Exactly, he says I’m a Man Yoo supporter for some reason, he reckons he has private investigators who have found this out for him!

The term ‘Brutally Honest’ doesn’t come to mind in context with anything surrounding United…. this is a club run by Liars and surrounded by Liars and that’s the way they like it….. it hasn’t changed in my Lifetime apart from the takeover by the Magpie Group who later went on to use the club to finance themselves….citing ….’at the end of the day we are businessmen’……

Hall and Shepherd set a precedent that hasn’t been copied at other football clubs of actually using it to take money out, to finance other ventures and enhance their lifestyles.

Ashley really doesn’t need the £3 – £5 million or so he denies the club but takes it anyway, he doesn’t need the merchandise franchise either but the club most certainly did, he has close down the club shops which were in competition with his own at Monument, at Eldon Square, the shops at Strawberry Place and Metrocentre bear the tax point of Shirebrook and are S***** D*****t outlets which bear the clubs name, Its a long time since I was at the Metrocentre I wonder if its still there.

      • Jezza

I’ll bet it cost more than he’ll allow Rafa to spend on a new striker.

  • Monkseaton Magpies

We had plenty of chances and certainly should have scored three. Kenedy somehow hit the post, Gayle missed a header from two yards which was brilliantly saved and Salami put an easy header wide. Cannot remember our keeper doing anything like their keeper did. We were certainly worth a draw or more.

    • thewildchimp

We weren’t. If we were, we would draw levels at some point. Now, if you say we have better players and had better chances – I couldn’t agree more…

  • 1957

A general lack of commitment by most of the players, Dummett having his worst game since he returned from injury, SloMo almost reverting to his previous incarnation, Shelvey ineffective, Gayle looking out of his depth again and Hoss… just being Hoss. The perfect storm for gifting WBA a win.

I mentioned earlier in the week there were rumours that some of Benitez staff had doubts about Slimani and yesterday’s bit of indiscipline (which must see him suspended) should see any chance of him signing permanently forgotten, assuming the manager applies the same standards of trust to Slim as he allegedly did to Mitrovic.

    • Jezza

Slimani was never going to be signed permanently because Fatso wouldn’t dip into the profits to fund the transfer fee.
