Another comedy classic from Sam Allardyce “I’ve always tried to be honest…”

It takes a special manager to be hated more by his own club’s fans, even when he is winning games….step forward Sam Allardyce.

Everton fans were predicting a terrible match on Monday night  and so it proved, actually even worse than they anticipated, apart from the basic scoreline.

The home side scoring from their only effort on target and that chance only came about, due to a hopeful long ball into the box seeing a couple of Newcastle defenders make rare mistakes.

Theo Walcott getting the benefit of a lucky deflection and giving Dubravka no chance.

After the match, Sam Allardyce was straight onto the attack, in defence of his own negative tactics, by attempting to blame the visitors for being too negative…

“You can’t knock our football.

“What was wrong with our style today?

“We completely dominated the game and outpassed the opposition.

“Found it very difficult to break them down because of their negative tactics of dropping 10 players into their own half.

On Friday, Sam Allardyce has been speaking ahead of their game against Huddersfield and has the nerve to say ‘I’ve always tried to be honest about how I do it (organise his teams to play football).

He also revisited Monday night, claiming Newcastle didn’t want to even get out of their own half.

Allardyce also declared it was possible he’d raised expectations too high because he claims started so well at Everton.

He also compared himself to Diego Simeone, as well as asking ‘what is entertainment?’

Well at the age of 63, nobody is expecting  Sam Allardyce to suddenly discover or accept, what is and isn’t entertainment.

Sam Allardyce:

“I do my job to the best of my ability and I’ve always tried to be honest about how I do it and the way I do it.

“It’s very difficult to break down 11 players in their own half. Chelsea couldn’t break us down, Liverpool couldn’t break us down at their place apart from a Salah wonder goal and we got a 1-1 draw.

“Because we started my reign so well we built up a great expectation it might be even better but in reality, with how hard we’ve all worked, we’ve achieved a good way forward in the space of five months. It is only five months.

“We’ve strived to be better and more consistent.

“What is entertainment?

“Entertainment is the master of defence in Europe, Simeone. Is that entertainment?

“He is called the master of his trade, has only conceded four goals at home all season. I’m seen as defensive and too negative.

“I don’t think it’s unfair, no. I think that we all want to be more entertaining.

“From where we started to where we are now, we’ve not only achieved the goal we achieved, but we have achieved some extremely entertaining games that we’ve played and when you look at Newcastle why was it difficult?

“It takes two to tango.

“Did Newcastle come and want to try and come out their own half? No.

“Did Newcastle ever try and attack apart from the last 10 minutes? No.

“Entertainment comes by both teams being a bit more open and adventurous.

Newcastle were not adventurous whatsoever so that’s why we controlled the game and had to be very, very patient to wait for our opportunity and when we got our opportunity we struck.

“Newcastle then came out the last 10 minutes and we had to defend, and we did that very well to win the match.”
