Life couldn’t be better for Jamaal Lascelles at the minute.

Newcastle United have already secured Premier League safety.

The players now with a free go at trying to finish as high as eighth, with an excellent run of form as the end of the season comes to a close.

Lascelles also says that the faith Rafa Benitez has shown in him ha also accelerated him maturing as a person and as a captain.

Whilst Gareth Southgate is yet to listen to them, the calls are getting ever louder for the 24 year old to be called up by England.

Whilst off the pitch Jamaal Lascelles has now revealed hat he and his partner are expecting a baby later this year.

With a son on the way, the Newcastle Captain declares ‘I am buzzing, couldn’t ask for anything more.’

When it comes to the football side of his life and what makes Newcastle United tick at the moment, Jamaal Lascelles has no doubt: ‘Everybody cares and I think that is the main thing.’

Jamaal Lascelles talking to NUFC TV:

“As Captain, I kind of know how to get the best out of players.

“Sometimes it is not all about being aggressive, or sometimes it is not all about putting an arm around.

“You have to balance it up and mostly everybody takes criticism – they all take it differently.

“The minute though you get on the pitch, everybody is telling each other what to do, everybody is organising, and I do think that has a massive part to play in how far we have come, or how competitive we are.

“Everybody cares and I think that is the main thing.

“We play with a lot of passion and everybody is hungry to win games – they want to do it for the fans, for the staff, for each other.

“If everybody has got the same mentality then you are going to be a hard team to beat.

“We did have a lot of people doubting us, saying we are a Championship team, but we have proved a lot of people wrong.

The Manager knows what he is doing and we trust the Manager, what he says goes, and I will back whatever decision he makes.

“Everton is going to be a tough game but we are up for it.

“If we conduct ourselves like we have the last four games, we will have no problems.

“Having the armband and having a manage who has put so much trust in me, and so much respect, it has kind of made me mature even faster.”

‘Expecting a baby later this year?’

“I’m over the moon, I always said I wanted to be a young dad.

“It has happened now, the baby is going to be 20 weeks on Monday, it’s happening really quick, and I just can’t wait to finally meet him.

“Obviously my girl was hoping for a girl but it is a boy and I am buzzing, couldn’t ask for anything more.”

  • Paul Patterson

Ever since he came into the side away at Everton (I think) and said on live tv that ‘nobody cares’. I’ve liked this guys attitude. A must keep for the summer . .

    • Clarko

He criticised the team after the 3-1 defeat to Southampton (his 16th appearance for the club). Guess you “thought” wrong…

      • Paul Patterson

I was referring to him getting sent off at Everton and when he came off he was heard saying ‘No-one gives a f**k’ on camera.

        • MichaelMaximusMoose

          😂😂

        • Clarko

          Alright, fair play.

        • TheFatController

No need to explain, I got it and am sure everyone else knows the incident. Seems some on here are just having a bad day/ week/ month/ life…..

          • Coach Clagnut

            time of the month…

      • Gallowgate

        • Billmag

Ha ha door handle I liked that.

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

    He`s a good kid & a fine Newcastle Capt

    • Paul Patterson

He’s in the position I’ve wanted the captain to be in for ages. Centre Back. But his attitude and credentials are more important . .

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

Coloccini was a Center Back. Didn’t have the right attitude though…

  • Sean Lynch

    Huge congrats Cappy!
If you’re anything like a father as you are a captain and leader, you’ll be an amazing dad.
Leading by example is what sets you apart from the rest. You’re not the greatest cb, after all, you’re still learning your craft. But you have shown week by week that you are going to be up there with the best. Your improvement is noticeable and when you make a mistake you are learning from it. That is a trait Rafa has instilled I think. Learning from one of the game’s best, has improved you as a player and as a man and long may it continue.
    Future England Captain!

      Embarrassing.

      • glassjawsh-got-banned

what’s embarrassing? a positive outlook? what a crime!

        • Clarko

What’s embarrassing about writing a personal love letter to a football player in the comment section of a news site?

          ¯_(ツ)_/¯

          • glassjawsh-got-banned

comment constable clarko, giving the people grief for enjoying themselves too much on a fan website. well done as always, inspector.

          • Clarko

Like all of your comments/replies, you have no counter, you know that I am right and you’re just replying for the sake of replying (I hope), that comment is an embarrassment and it should be called out, you trying to defend that comment reflects badly on the rest of the fan base. Pick your battles.

          • TheFatController

I think people are saying that, whilst you’re entitled to your opinion on the post, you can’t then project that opinion as being one everyone else should share. Perhaps many will, clearly already some don’t…

          • Clarko

“people are saying that, whilst you’re entitled to your opinion on the post, you can’t then project that opinion as being one everyone else should share”

Can you quote where someone has said that?

          • glassjawsh-got-banned

the only embarrassing thing about any of this is you

        • Gallowgate

          Well said

      • Gareth Marshall

Lighten up Clarko, the comment is a bit cringy but nobody needed to “call it out” – the only embarrassing comment is yours. The OP’s post was nice and uplifting, your comment was unnecessary, mean and cruel.

        • Clarko

“the comment is a bit cringy”

“The OP’s post was nice and uplifting”

    • Galowgate

Well said deserves all the credit

    • Leazes.

      He punched Diame!

      • Rich Lawson

        Woke him up tho’ !

  • Gianfranco Shola

We’ve heard Rafa suggest he could stay for a decade, if Jamaal stays for the next 10 years also we’ll have very successful and exciting times ahead, down to you Mr Ashley….

    • Jezza

Put it this way, we all hoped Andy Carroll would stay for 10 years but Ashley wanted the money and that dictated everything. I can’t see it being any different with Lascelles. If a club comes in and puts upwards of £30 million on the table the lad will be going whether he wants to or not.

  • ghostrider

You can’t fault his attitude in everything he does. This is what captains are made of, not to mention potential legends.
The only handicap to his potential for legendary status is the draw of money bag clubs.
However, we have to look at the past and present with him because the future does not and never will exist….just a present from a past…and on that note he’s doing a sterling job.

    • Down Under Mag

I don’t think he has done enough on the football side to warrant a really big spender coming in for him, the bigger worry is that someone like Spurs or Arsenal will decide he is worth gambling on given he is still likely to keep improving.

      • ghostrider

Yeah, It’s not about a big spender it’s just about a big club doing exactly what you said.
The thing is, if a big club come in and try to get him, Ashley will slap a monstrous price tag on his head, which would be expected, yet it could seriously unsettle Lascelles if that big club is where he would like to be.

Hopefully he sees his future at Newcastle and wants to ride the rollercoaster for a few more years or 10.

  • Angelswithdirtyfaces

If anybody deserves a pay limit breaking contract and massive buyout clause it’s Jamaal

    • Leazes.

Yes unfortunately I’m sure Spurs will provide him with one.
