Agent confirms Newcastle interest in signing Alexandr Golovin

Newcastle United are interested in signing Alexandr Golovin this summer.

His agent, Alexander Manyakov, has told Russian media that both Newcastle and Southampton have registered an interest in signing the young midfielder.

The 21 year old is rated in the 20m euros (approx £17.6m) according to his agent.

A first team regular for these last couple of years for CSKA Moscow he has scored six times this season from midfield, Alexandr Golovin scoring against both Arsenal and Lyon in the Europa League, as well as four goals in the domestic Russian league.

Golovin has started 24 league games this season and also 15 in European competition, five in the Europa League and 10 in the Champions League (including qualifying rounds.

Alexandr Golovin impressed in both recent games against Arsenal and started for Russia in their defeats to both France and Brazil last month, the player set to part of the Russian squad that hosts the World Cup this summer.

Having also been linked to Brighton recently, Golovin’s agent says the midfielder ‘needs to leave’ CSKA Moscow to progress his career, with the Premier League being an ideal place for that.

Alexander Manyakov talking to Sports.Ru (as reported by Sport Witness):

“Alexandr Golovin needs to leave (CSKA Moscow this summer).

“As far as I know, there are offers from Premier League clubs but not from the Top 6 six.

“I know that Southampton and Newcastle are showing an interest but he has a contract with CSKA.”

Transfer stories have been (thankfully) thin on the ground so far for Newcastle fans, largely due to the coverage of Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez’ futures at Newcastle United.

However, with only 13 days now until the end of the Premier League season that is surely set to change.
