Newcastle United are interested in signing Alexandr Golovin this summer.

His agent, Alexander Manyakov, has told Russian media that both Newcastle and Southampton have registered an interest in signing the young midfielder.

The 21 year old is rated in the 20m euros (approx £17.6m) according to his agent.

A first team regular for these last couple of years for CSKA Moscow he has scored six times this season from midfield, Alexandr Golovin scoring against both Arsenal and Lyon in the Europa League, as well as four goals in the domestic Russian league.

Golovin has started 24 league games this season and also 15 in European competition, five in the Europa League and 10 in the Champions League (including qualifying rounds.

Alexandr Golovin impressed in both recent games against Arsenal and started for Russia in their defeats to both France and Brazil last month, the player set to part of the Russian squad that hosts the World Cup this summer.

Having also been linked to Brighton recently, Golovin’s agent says the midfielder ‘needs to leave’ CSKA Moscow to progress his career, with the Premier League being an ideal place for that.

Alexander Manyakov talking to Sports.Ru (as reported by Sport Witness):

“Alexandr Golovin needs to leave (CSKA Moscow this summer).

“As far as I know, there are offers from Premier League clubs but not from the Top 6 six.

“I know that Southampton and Newcastle are showing an interest but he has a contract with CSKA.”

Transfer stories have been (thankfully) thin on the ground so far for Newcastle fans, largely due to the coverage of Mike Ashley and Rafa Benitez’ futures at Newcastle United.

However, with only 13 days now until the end of the Premier League season that is surely set to change.

Transfermarkt value 10 million Euro`s, his agent 20 million Euro`s.

        • Weyhhadaway

      • Rabid Dog

for another unproven 21 year old…. yay

  • Ram Kishore

Surely Agent is incredibly publicising to bring in competition

  • Leazes.

Agent talking to Sports Russia translated by Google translate then copied by Sport Witness…repeated by Ryder….then pasted by Porter…. and its not even summer yet….. whisper it softly…. FAKE NEWS!

  • X,WHY,Y MAN.

He’s a cracking player who I have been very impressed with but there must be loads of clubs he would go to before us.

    • Leazes.

Like clubs who will spend money for instance and not Ashley who will go for loan players?

Why would United be looking at a player from a poor league, who is 21 and would be Shelveys replacement?

      • TheNutJob

so Fatty can flog Jonjo & pocket the dosh

      • MadMag83

He’s supposedly an attacking midfielder, surely that puts him in the number 10 role? Shelvey is a central midfielder.

  • Weyhhadaway

We are going to get multiple agents per day linking their players to us and other prem clubs all summer. How about some actual info from the club? oh they don’t tell anyone anything do they, so we get this guess work.

  • TheNutJob

Fake news, rumour started by Ryder

  • MadMag83

This write up is missing the full quote from his agent, who goes on to say that so far no club has met the €20m price tag set by his club, but that hopefully he will have a good World Cup etc. Now, given that Benitez has already stated he won’t be drawn in to buying World Cup wonders, you have to think this is a none starter.

“Golovin’s agent says the midfielder ‘needs to leave’ CSKA Moscow to progress his career”

That’s the problem with translating stuff from Russian to English what he actually said was ” My boy wants to get his hands on the money in the PL and I’m gonna help him get as much as I can”,

  • Damon Horner

Been impressed when I’ve watched the lad. I’d take him if he was offered.

  • Philippines

    WTF? How about a striker?
