The Premier League table currently shows Newcastle United in 16th place on 29 points.

The Magpies two points above the relegation zone but also only five points off the top half of the table.

An interesting table has been published now though, showing what the Premier League table would look like based only on results since the turn of the year.

The form over the past 10 weeks throwing up some very interesting outcomes.

All clubs have played eight Premier League matches apart from Tottenham and West Ham, they had a delayed game to fit in which finished 1-1.

As it happens, Tottenham would still be top of the form in 2018 with one less point, whilst West Ham would drop from seventh to ninth if docked the point from their extra ninth game of 2018.

Newcastle United are a very respectable 11th in the 2018 results table, with 11 points from a possible 24.

However, maybe the most heartening thing for Rafa Benitez, is that of the eight games played this calendar year, they include all of the six clubs who have the best form of 2018.

The Premier League Table based only on results in 2018 (number of points before each club, then goal difference afterwards):

21 Tottenham (+12)

19 Man City (+14)

19 Liverpool (+11)

18 Man Utd (+7)

14 Swansea (+2)

13 Bournemouth (+2)

12 West Ham (-2)

12 Brighton (0)

11 Watford (-1)

10 Leicester (0)

10 Newcastle United (-2)

8 Chelsea (-1)

8 Southampton (-2)

8 Crystal Palace (-5)

7 Arsenal (-1)

7 Stoke (-3)

7 Everton (-9)

6 Burnley (-3)

6 Huddersfield (-11)

4 West Brom (-8)

And most of the teams at the bottom we have left to play, Arsenal Everton and Leicester aren’t the force they have been

    • TheNutJob

we could take points off all those teams if we attack them, i say attack with a pinch of salt as it`s a novelty with Newcastle

  • Leazes.

If you give an idiot a pocket calculator it doesn’t make him a mathematician!

The mag gave a monkey a typewriter. It hasn`t managed the complete works of Shakespeare yet but he did knock out this article. Here you go, Graham – have a banana.

  • Wor Lass

“An interesting table has been published now though ….” Really, Graham? How fascinating. And in which learned publication did you discover said “interesting table”? Was it the same one that regularly treats us to “interesting” comments by other teams` fans (about us AND Sunderland)?

This is getting worse than the chronic..le

    Utterly pointless articles!! 😣

  • FairsCup69

Er, perhaps part of the reason the teams above us are above us is because part of their points tally was earned from matches against us…..
