The divide between the Premier League and the rest is shown in all kinds of ways.

Though usually money is at the heart of all of them.

This has been proved once again with the weather that has hit the country this week.

BBC Sport have listed which games have survived the weather and which haven’t.

At noon on Saturday there were 35 in total in the top five tiers of English football.

As you go further down the leagues, there are progressively more matches called off. Less money of course available for measures to prevent frozen pitches etc but also, calling off a Premier League match is also a costly business, especially ones such as Liverpool v Newcastle that are on Live TV.

The breakdown of games called off (see full BBC Sport list below) sees 11 from the National League not going ahead, 9 in League Two, 9 in League One, 6 in the Championship, but none affected so far in the Premier League. The image above shows Joe Harvey helping to clear the St James Park pitch in times gone by, how times change.

For local sides, Middlesbrough played on Friday night at home and beat Leeds 3-0, both Gateshead and Hartlepool have seen their matches called off but they were both away from home, whilst Sunderland are still due to lose, sorry play, at Millwall this afternoon.
