The results of the Newcastle v Southampton player ratings by fans.

Always interesting to see what supporters have collectively made of the latest performance, when using our interactive ratings system.

Each player marked out of 10 and the averages below.

Despite his two goals and all round very good display, Kenedy (8.5) has just been shaded for the man of the match award.

Arguably, Jonjo Shelvey (8.6) played even better than the Man Utd match and what makes it even better, is that he refused to let his knee injury keep him out of the game.

Next up is Paul Dummett (8.3), the left-back putting in yet another disciplined and committed display.

A bit of a strange one as despite Newcastle winning by three goals, the two most forward players getting the lowest marks.

Both Gayle and Perez with 6.6, the pair of them wasting decent chances, though they combined excellently for the second goal when setting up Kenedy.

The other six starters all put in good to very good performances.

Centre-backs Lascelles and Lejeune building up a very good partnership and looked dominant, both scoring 7.9.

Mohamed Diame (7.8) once again looking the ideal partner for Shelvey, whilst Ritchie (7.6) has rediscovered his form (including goalscoring) at exactly the right time, scoring in consecutive home matches.

Martin Dubravka (7.4) didn’t have loads to do but yet again was in total command of his box, the only mistake he made was when bizarrely dropping the ball as he prepared to launch it up the field.

DeAndre Yedlin (7.0) completes the picture, getting on with his job and it is great having him in place when a winger tries to run him, as happened with Redmond on Saturday. No chance!

  • MichaelMaximusMoose

Anyone who watched the match wouldn`t be surprised at all with Shelvey getting top marks although he just shaded it from Kenedy

    • Leazes.

Must be heartbreaking for Ryder who lead a hate campaign against the guy as he’d had been playing with injections for weeks and was still our best player.

      • MichaelMaximusMoose

Ryder had to give him top marks, must have killed him

        • Leazes.

The worst bit about that sorry episode for me was that a few internet bloggers jumped on his bandwagon and have done some damage there!

    • Rich Lawson

Correct, you don’t have to be the goalscorer to dominate a match.

  • Leazes.

No surprise in your figures at all Graham…. they’re almost the same as the figures you started with when you posted it, for very good reason, being that is your average score leads peoples choice when scoring…. its a waste of time as a poll but comforting if you put the first scores in because readers will mark up or down by one on the figure you provided confirming your own genius…. or otherwise.

  • Wor Monga

Yes Shelvey… he worked the midfield supply line superbly, and along with Mo, gave a masterclass demonstration of how to use the controlled agression to close off the midfield…along with Dummett who is a great example of a strong quick and determined fullback who can quickly convert us into a 3 man Central Defensive set-up when required…they might have just shaded it, but this was a total team effort without much disparity!!!

  • Monkseaton Magpies

Perhaps the fans who gave Perez a six were not at the match to see him run the length of the field to create the second goal. It’s funny how all the local and national papers give Perez a higher mark than the Mag. Which player has the most premiership points per games started the answer is Perez not Lascelles.

    • Alex

Conversely, he’d be the player who has the most premiership points lost per games started, too.

      • Monkseaton Magpies

When he has not started we have only .40 points per game when he has started we have 1.40 points per game. When Perez, Lascelles and Ritchie are not playing we generally lose.

  • Obnoxious Andy

All the players deserve tens because of the stifling tactics of Benitez.
If he’d of been attacking and played Joselu, Gayle, Perez, Armstrong, Mitrovic and Ivan Toney we’d have won 9-0.
I was watching the game with my boys Clarko, Monkseaton Magpie and Ghostrider, we all agreed a good tactician like Pards would have got the best out of that squad.
Ghostrider choked on his slush puppy when “genius Rafa’s” name was being sung, if he’s that good at winning champions leagues, why aren’t we the ones playing Barcelona on Wednesday 😤

    • Kneebotherm8

Ha ha ha ha ha……….fckn hilarious……

  • Grahame Johnson

Shelvey receives abuse by supporters of other clubs that has not been spoke about much in the media, if it was about, colour, race, sexuality it would be talked about, he seems a complexed individual and one that Rafa is doing well to get good performances out of

  • Dillon Tovak

Not on the topic, but I’m kind of loving Sky being pressured to part with 50% of their “punditry dream team”.
Sky are grim. So’s Carragher for spitting, but the real villain is the Dad. People say “Carragher spat at 14 year old girl” but the dad could have run one over whilst filming and driving. He should be banned and fined for the full amount he got for selling the video to the papers.
You can hear how delighted he is when Carragher spits.

  • Ayoze deserves more than a 6.6 as he was instrumental for our counters and did pressure Southampton’s defenders and midfielders a lot. Overall Diame is a bit higher rated as he gave the ball away a few times in our own half, but he was excellent in winning the ball.
