Newcastle United travelled to Sunderland on Wednesday night for a Premier League International Cup quarter-final.

A very good performance by Newcastle and an exciting match, have now been overshadowed by focus on ‘trouble’ at the game.

Despite it being only reserve sides, more than 300 Newcastle fans made the trip.

Initially it was said there would be no segregation but clearly Sunderland responded to rumours of a decent number of travelling fans, by making a late decision to house the Newcastle fans behind one of the goals.

A number of seats were smashed in that Newcastle section and now NUFC have promised to identify those responsible and ‘hold them to account’.

One fan was pictured on social media after the match returning home on the Metro, holding up what appeared to be one of the smashed seats.

“The club is very disappointed to hear of the actions of a small group of individuals and will do everything it can to help the police identify those responsible and hold them to account.”

I remember the first 0-3 at SJP, their lot were above us in the Leazes, coins, bottles and flares were thrown down. There is idiots on both sides. Both as bad and reprehensible as each other.

tins of fosters are not ‘man’s beer’ in my (real ale) book.

  • Coach Clagnut

A large group of individuals is very disappointed with the running of N.U.F.C. We have identified the individual responsible and conclude he is not fit for purpose.
He and others need holding to account for their crimes against football.
    Don’t hold ya breath.

    • Martin Rooney

That’s really clever, genius wow a truly mighty wordsmith.

Talking of knocking up are you signing AJ to play on day release provided he doesn’t take any bait back to jail ?
