Mikel Merino has been named in the latest Spanish Under 21 squad on Friday afternoon.

The midfielder hasn’t had a great of football recently, the midfielder starting only two Premier League games since December, as he continues to recover fully from a back injury which halted his impressive start to the season.

In his last international, the 21 year old scored in a 4-1 win over Slovakian Under 21s.

Altogether there are 9 Newcastle players called up for the March internationals.

Though of course Lascelles and Shelvey were both overlooked by Gareth Southgate when naming his squad on Thursday.
